Has that got a Hemi?

These are the ones I have pictures of on file: AMT 1969 Cougar. I still have the engine of the first one I built back in the seventies. Painted it Testors competition orange. This turned out much better. AMT 1957 Chevy. Nope, nothing left but memories. I did not paint it, but I remember all the chrome. This stock version is pretty good. I like the extra engine. AMT 1955 Chevy. Nothing but memories here too. I built the first version as the pickup truck gasser. I brush painted it black. This is better. AMT 1964 Impala. One of the first glue kits I ever had. Brush painted or tried to, Pactra purple. I'm planning to redo this one again because the paint damaged the plastic. Monogram 55 Badman. I did the Badman twice and the street version. This is so much better. I have probably another dozen in boxes to build that would replace childhood models.

I've watched these come around several times on eBay. Very nicely detailed with more realistic wheel spokes. Unfortunately. they're almost always higher than what I want to pay or I forget to bid. Good for you Randy!

A little more organized

In all the places I have lived since leaving my parents house 37 years ago (6th move), this is the first place I've had that is close to permanent. I always built on a dining room table or like at my last house my computer desk which I still have, but no longer use. It was always too small an area. I can finally leave everything laying out and know it won't be bothered and my wife doesn't have to look at my mess. My son inspired me on that one. He showed up at Christmas with a patch of it on his jacket. I like it too. When I was in high school wood shop class, we has a semester on drafting. I distinctly remember wrapping the basswood drafting boards with butcher paper to protect them. Our instructor explained that even though our school was one of the newest in the county at the time (9 yrs old). The tables dated back to the '40s and were kept in good shape because they always wrapped them in paper. I have no idea if they still have them. The school is still there, no longer the newest by far and I don't even know if that type of class is even offered. -
So, another year and still no hobby room. That makes five now. I did get most my son's stuff out of the house. My wife insists we keep schoolwork and baby stuff. I get some other items sorted and recycled or sent to Goodwill. This opened up a little space in the area that is to be my hobby room. I need find a place for this huge Christmas tree. Maybe in the spring once it's warm, I will the get the model boxes out and go through them again to sell on eBay. I now have a table in it and with the tool cart from Christmas, all my model building tools, accessories and leftovers are accessible. I'm kind of stoked. Started right into a stock car. Painting will be limited due to weather, but at least I can get it ready. My work area is tight, but i have enough space. A place for all my tools, and I can drag it all to another space when I start to clean out this room to finish it (yeah, right). The top area holds tools to open those stubborn 30 year old paint bottles. It also has my scales, airbrushes and some extra stuff. I still have lots of room to throw a kit in progress and all the stuff on my table. Top drawers. All the paints are marked so I can tell the colors. Middle drawer. Meh, needs some work still. Bottom drawer. I can store spray cans in here. The bottom shelf holds my compressor and tank, my paint stand, Dremel tool and some taller chemicals. I likes me some stickers! You ought to see my work toolbox. I have another small plastic three drawer storage unit that has a whole bunch of bottled paints from House of Kolor that I've never really used. It also has my leftover parts from builds, decals from old kits and future NASCAR builds (yeah, right) and a lot of little accessories from Detail Master. Also the bottom drawer is full of model spray paints.

I just wonder why there aren't more pictures of it with these wheels and it almost seems like the photographer was doing their best to hide them in the photo that is available.

Yeah, sometimes we tend to go off on our own, don't we... Nice collection you completed by the way Snake.

Me too Randy. I bought 8 this year that needed cleaning and some repairs. I covered the repairs to the Ferrari here. I also did one Welly that I detailed and was documented. Four Motormax that I detailed three of them and documented. I still have a 2017 Mustang GT to detail. And although they're not diecast, AMT sort of marketed their Masterpiece series of pre-built models to compete with the Mints. I picked up two that needed some attention from poor storage. Now I only need one to complete the set.

organizing parts
THarrison351 replied to John Pol's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is pretty much what I have currently except mine are in sandwich bags. Even after 40 plus years of building, I just don't have that many left over parts. Of course There are some kit boxes that still have their leftover parts on sprues in them, but less than 10 or so. When I need to find something, I dump the contents out in a large plastic storage container and spread things out. Then I can just pour everything back in the bag when I'm done. I'm thinking about going to a wall mounted small parts storage unit when I finish my hobby room with a more detailed sorting system. -
What did you get under the tree (model related)

Pearls and metallic paints do this sometimes depending on the lighting.

I don't think these are Mustang factory wire wheel covers. The spokes aren't straight enough. Could be Kelsey-Hayes or some other hubcap or wire wheel but not stock Mustang. Pink Mustang These are factory wire wheel covers. Thunderbird Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. A little more angle and crisscross on the spoke.

What did you get under the tree (model related)

My wife started asking me three months ago what I wanted or needed (within reason) for my Christmas present. This is always hard, because usually I just get whatever I need when I need it. I really couldn't think of anything until I had to clear off the basement aux dining table I had been using for model building. My model tools were in the hobby room and on the dining table and I would have to walk from one end of the basement to the other when I worked. My hobby room is still a progress in work. Hopefully, I can finish it this coming year. Now I have a temporary space there to build models, but no good place to store the tools. So I thought, maybe a bigger or better organized tackle box than the one I've had for the last 20 or so years. The problem is the drawers/shelves I find are too shallow for bottle paint. My current box has deeper spaces than anything I could find. I even looked at make-up artist storage boxes. Oddly enough, a tool cart popped up while I was searching and a light bulb went off. I did some searching and found what I wanted at Harbor Freight. Pulled out my 20% coupon and off I went. I was ready to spend around $200. Well, you can't use a 20% for tool carts or other tool storage systems, but the sales person said if I looked up the online sale on the day I was there, the 4 drawer tech carts were on sale for $109.99 and available in my favorite tool box color, black. I also received a few unexpected gifts from my wife, son, his wife and Santa. I've already started decorating it. I pulled the plasticky US General emblem off and put my old style Craftsman sticker like my work tool box. The Advance sticker came from when I worked there from 1999-2012, 2014-2016 part time. I really learned a lot. Another story, another day. The metal sign on the right was from my wife, the picture on the left, came from my son, Christmas last year. The tools came from Santa. I've never used a scalpel or a panel scribe (left side), but I've heard good things and look forward to trying. The hemostats are OK quality, I'll see how they hold up. The Allison Mercury, and the Grand Prix are from my son and his wife. Current favorite driver. Finally found a place to stick all of these stickers from work. I didn't want them on my work tool box. They're paper and the lighting and sunlight bleaches the heck out of them. One last thing. It came disassembled and is heavy and awkward to carry. The main box with drawers and lid is pre-assembled, but the rest has to be put together. It took me about two hours which included gathering tools, a table, a chair and numerous trips up and down the stairs out to the garage. Only tools ended up used, were a 1/4" ratchet, 6' extension, socket, combo wrench and a Gearwrench. All nuts are 1/2". Overall pretty easy. -
This has to be a blast!

Meh. Too each his own. I like the straight up racing. -
I can't tell for sure, but it looks like it might have Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. I can't seem to find any other pictures on the net other than this one with her posing with it. The paint looks like it has pearl in it too.

Decal fluids, yes or no.....
THarrison351 replied to SCRWDRVR's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've used all three and heat with good and bad results. Mostly good on aftermarket decals. Older OE decals usually never showed any change with any product. I only found out about heat in the last ten years. I haven't built any kits lately to use OE decals so I don't know if they have changed the way they're being made and I've not had a need to try heat,
