I saw those too, but was disappointed absolutely nothing opens on them. The Dharma emblem isn't even raised. This seems more like a $10 Motor Max diecast. I was a huge fan of lost. Even though the ending was drawn out and stupid. Oh yeah, the 1/18 scale bus has some better details like separate side marker lights, door handles and the Dharma emblem is in relief, but still nothing opens and I don't think the wheels steer.

1:18 ERTL-based '72 Formula 455 HO Firebird
THarrison351 replied to swede70's topic in Diecast Corner
The '72 Welly Trans Am is a great source for '73 because that's what it is. I just detailed a 1/24 version and they scaled down their 1/18 diecast to create it. Unfortunately the under hood is correct for a '73 not for a '72. The '72 did not have radiator support to fender braces and the radiator did not have an expansion tank next to the filler neck. Air cleaner on the 73 has only one snorkel on the driver's side with a cold air duct from the fender. A '72 has two and no cold air ducts. The diecast both used finned valve covers. Not the correct smooth steel valve covers. -
Alright, thanks. Two seats, two air cleaners, four? instrument (dash) panel tops, and 4 odd shaped squares I can't match to anything in the kit.

I just acquired a set of these decals and hope someone knows what a couple of the other decals are for They are circled.

Well at least you have Rite Aid. I've been to Walgreen's, CVS, Target, Walmart, and Big Lots. All of them were a bust except for two trucks in a NEX display at one CVS. I guess its eBay or nothing for me.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I will likely get rid of more models and diecast in the future and then buy more.... I have plenty of space to store the unbuilts once my son's stuff is removed from another storage area. I was really wondering if anyone had been stuck and what they had done to motivate themselves. I

Friend drives "Squad cars tours" from Wally's filling station, awesome. Do they keep a shovel and a rake in each of the trunks? I'm proud to call myself a Tar Heel. Although, not a fan of UNC. Go Duke! My whole family is from NC, Robersonville area and Hildebran area. I was born in Williamston, and was quickly (6 weeks), whisked away to Germany, for an all expenses paid trip of two years in Wiesbaden. Dad was military too. We next lived in Phoenix for a couple of years and when Dad went to tour Vietnam, we stayed with Mom's folks in NC for a year. When we next moved to Sin City, I got to build (ruin) my first model. We were there until just before school started in '73 and came back to NC and stayed with grandparents until family housing opened in Va in early '74. I was there until I joined in '82 and was stationed back were it all started, Goldsboro. Son was born in Goldsboro. That's were my father was stationed and I was almost born in '64. Lived there until '94. My wife's from Hickory. I'm in Kansas due to job skills and the economy. Otherwise I'd probably be back in NC.

Affordable high end 1/24 diecasts are still out there
THarrison351 replied to traditional's topic in Diecast Corner
Well, sort of makes you think of a Y-block because of the bolts in the valve covers and some of years and divisions used yellow paint. Also, Fords usually have a distributor in the front, but not the Y-block. Still, looks good though. -
Those look great. Not to make you feel too old. It still had three years to go before I was born. I didn't start building until 1970. I only have a couple of built models from then until into my mid 20's. This was due to youthful exuberance, poor packing and multiple moves by the military. I did have several car models from my teen years before joining the military and then those I built before being married. Moving and poor storage damaged most of those builds. The couple that survived would be from 1983-84, the Dale Earnhardt Wrangler T-bird and Bill Elliott Melling T-bird repainted to be Cale Yarborough's Hardee's T-Bird. They survived because they were displayed and were not stored. I still had all those broken and damaged cars up until about 10 years ago. I had planned to sell them on eBay and unfortunately they were accidentally crushed when I didn't sell them. See link below for the pics. I had also built a lot of aircraft after I joined the military (Air Force). I felt they would never survive the first move, so I gave them (50+) and maybe another 20-30 unbuilt kits to a neighbor who built airplanes. https://public.fotki.com/tharrison351/display-cases/

I’m hoping this is the correct forum for what I’m asking/stating. I think I might have a problem. I know I suffer from procrastination, hoarding and impulsiveness. Please indulge me a little. Over the years (30ish) I have collected models, diecast and display cases. Prior to that, I bought and built. At my previous house, I had probably a third of my diecast and models on display in the spare room and den. I didn’t have a dedicated area to build models. I built models on my old computer desk. Models and diecast not on display and unbuilt models were stored in the attic above the detached garage. When we purchased this new house several years ago, it came with a large (10X21) partly finished room I planned to make into a 5th bedroom and would serve as a display/hobby room. Currently another spare bedroom and the family room serves as a display for some cars. All of the Danbury and Franklin Mint cars were purchased cheap. Either damaged, filthy or the seller didn't know how to sale on eBay. Harry's Bike Well, work took me away from the states and I also have worked a lot of overtime. Needless to say, I haven’t finished the room. I did sell off over 100 models and diecast and occasionally I still sell some. So, long story short, I need to finish the room. Two walls are concrete and need to be framed and dry walled. The other two walls and ceiling are covered with cheap paneling. I plan to remove the paneling and cover them with drywall. I need to add a closet too. The floor is covered in removable puzzle like rubber mat. That will be replaced professionally and my daughter-in-law gets the mat. I plan to add shelves for display when it’s all finished. If anyone has ever tackled a job like this, what motivated you and where did you start? Part two of my problem is I sold over a hundred kits and diecast a couple of years ago, but I think since then, I have purchased even more. I can’t seem to stop myself. Maybe I need therapy. Anyone else suffering from this? University of Racing Legends. I need to put these all back in their boxes where they're safe. I had them on display in the spare room, but now the're on my old computer desk covered with cloth. These were also on display in the spare room. All of the Danbury and Franklin Mint cars were purchased cheap. Either damaged or filthy or poorly marketed. My old work area. My new, semi-temporary work area. Too much stuff. I have another area of my basement that is planned for storage when this is finished. So all the boxes of unbuilts will go to that room. I just have to kick all my son’s stuff to his home. There's those boxes I need to put the diecast in. I do have a detailed spread sheet that lists most of my unbuilt cars. It's many months out of date and I sometimes forget to consult it before making new purchases. So, I have a couple of duplicates.

Well, if I had the supply of Welly diecasts from Rite Aid you have, the possibilities might be endless. Wichita, on the other hand has other ideas. So, now that overtime is finished where I work. I have one outside project that has to be finished before winter. My deck needs repaired and finished. The weather this week is not cooperating. That was why I was able to finish the T/A so fast. I have three plastic kits on my table to start. Two NASCAR Ford Fusions to represent Ryan Blaney's 2016 VT Hokies car and his 2018 Menards car. I also just received a Tamiya Nissan Skyline KPGC-10 2000 GT-R stock version I plan to tackle. -

I now know why this Firebird T/A looks as good as it does and has many of the mistakes I pointed out. Here it is in 1/18 scale https://www.modellauto18.de/pontiac-firebird-trans-1972-blauweiss-welly-118-p-8556.html?language=en -
Looks great. My hood is warped too.

I just got the stock version of this kit. I'll watch to see what you do with the rest of it. Yours came with extra goodies.

Welly 72 Trans Am Finished With Tire Decals
THarrison351 replied to THarrison351's topic in Diecast Corner
It's complete. The decals fit OK and a skosh large. They didn't respond as I hoped with the Solvaset. They wrinkled like I'm used to, but the wrinkles didn't smooth completely back out. Also, the shaker opening is different so a little black touch up was required. Overall, I think it turned out better than me trying to paint the stripes on the white area as required. I decided to Molotow pen the chrome. I love these things. I couldn't do a '59 Caddy, but raised ridges are pretty easy. Got an extra plate from that decal sheet too. -

As I said, I'm no expert and see what I found. Apparently, ivory (white) has black carpets, dash and center console. For future reference. https://sanfranciscosportscars.com/vehicles/388/1972-pontiac-trans-am -
Welly 72 Trans Am Finished With Tire Decals

Yeah, I think that's the same one. I can't remember what I might have done if I did anything. It's been almost 5 years since I've seen this car. -
Welly 72 Trans Am Finished With Tire Decals
THarrison351 replied to THarrison351's topic in Diecast Corner
I'm slowly getting there. Mostly done except the body. Hopefully that will be finished today. The under hood finished. The chassis plate. I filled the two holes that where bugging the fool out of me to begin with using some stretched sprue which lead to the next discovery. I did get a little carried away with the Dremel initially, but oh well, holes gone. And I found a fresh bottle of steel paint. Found this while digging through boxes for sprue. Now I don't have to paint the black around the stripes. Finally, the instrument panel is complete. Why is it you never see those woolly boogers when you're looking through the camera? They seem to only show up after you've put everything away and downloaded the pictures. -

Thanks for the praise. The '67 'bird would be this one below? I did some detailing, painted the interior, but can't remember the headlights. This picture was taken many years back and I don't remember why. It's packed away in a box until the room it's stored in is converted to a bedroom or we move again. See following picture.
