  1. Some detail painting and assembly. The interior is a quandary. It has an automatic console, a ball shifter (should be a tee and the transmission attached to the engine is a manual), and it has wells for the convertible top mechanism (a problem with most all AMT kits from this time. I know, these kit's parts design were shared with the promos. The 409 engine is simple and of course has an axle hole. Air cleaner, breather, and valve covers are supposed to be chrome plated, so I foiled them. My detailing is a bit sloppy, but I'm happy so far. Have to paint the exhaust next, which of course is molded to the chassis. More to come
  2. I built one of these when I was really young (6-7) Or I should say I ruined a perfectly good model. It took a while for me to start building it, because I did something wrong (theft) and it was taken from me before I could start building it. I did eventually get it back and discovered the hard way, that candy grape is not meant to be sprayed directly on plain white plastic. So Round 2 released it almost the same as it was when I was a kid, except the baby moon steelies where replaced with 5 spoke Crager SS or Appliance like mags. I've done all of my preliminary painting, now it's time for foiling and decaling. I wanted to try my luck with gold paint, because I have never been successful with this color and this one was no exception. I'm pressing on and will complete it anyhow. The colors are not factory correct, but I like them. More to come
  3. It's so cool they're releasing this kit again. I hope it comes with the bird of paradise decals. I built (ruined) this kit when I was a kid because the decals had to be cut from the paper and up to that point i had only built a few kits where the decals where separate on the paper. I seem to remember just laying the whole decal over the car.
  4. I had the Z28 from the same period. Ertl made several unassembled diecast at this time. I'm thinking none of them are highly collectible. They would have value to someone who just has to have one. Ertl before acquiring AMT, made their own models. Mainly big rigs and of pretty good quality. Blueprint was on all their kits. The quality was fair on the diecasts. They were pretty simple as most diecasts were at the time. That's about all I know.
  5. Wild looking gasser man!
  6. Looks Great!
  7. So another step closer to getting in the swing of building again. I saw these kits on the shelves of Wal-Mart along with the Camaro and Mustang. Unfortunately, Wal-Mart pulled the kits before I made a purchase. Hobby Lobby had this one discounted, so I bought it. The paint finish is excellent, too bad Revell doesn't smooth the parting lines before painting. I guess Revell is trying to help the beginner builder by molding parts in different colors and painting the body. The interior is molded in a dark charcoal and the chassis is molded in a metallic charcoal. The builder is given some simple paint instructions to enhance the kit. I didn't put a lot of effort into detailing, because it's just a shelf model. The chassis and interior are simple, but can be detailed to look good. The exhaust is wrong for the 2013 SRT8 and the primary muffler (nicknamed the suitcase) should be two smaller mufflers. The only disappointment are the wheels. I think they are supposed to be Vapor wheels which should be a black chrome. The mold is soft and the detail is lost after chroming. I just painted them metallic black and rubbed the edge to give a different look. One other thing, I forgot to paint the rear lower valence black. Have a look.
  8. Does anyone know of a good source of wheels for these cars? The kit wheels are way too shallow. PPP wheels for 60-70s Holman Moody wheels look close, but if there is a better source let me know.
  9. Reminds me of some of the Bugattis they stopped making them. Very nice!
  10. I can tell by the backward slanted 340 it's the AMT Pro Shop Duster pre painted kit body that came out several years ago. What are you using for the chassis? Did you cut off the front clip or is it broken off? The reason I ask, is the cut/break doesn't follow the fender where it meets the door.
  11. This is my version of a Ford F-150 Raptor. My hobby room is still not ready to build in so I have a board I can set on a kitchen table. This way I can put it away so my wife isn't upset. I haven't built anything plastic in a couple of years. My slump buster. It's a nicely detailed snap kit as everyone knows. Some let downs are the tail lights and stickers instead of decals, but it's mean't for beginning builders. I used Testors One Coat Lacquer Flaming Orange, Duplicolor Fabric and Vinyl Charcoal Grey and Testors Flat Black. The rest is just detailed using bottle paint. My picture skills are poor, but it's great to build again.
  12. 100%, I recognized a lot from collecting diecasts and building models
  13. So, I haven't built a Motorcycle since I was a kid and usually made a mess of them. This is an out of production Testors Lincoln Mint Ultra Metal Series 1/6 2004 Harley Davidson Road King FLHRI. This thing is large and heavy. It was used and opened when I won it at auction, but I got it cheap and it was complete. Overall it was straight built from the box. Some holes had to be enlarged and some were off center. For some reason, the front fender marker lens was tinted red. I stripped it with alcohol and re-stained. The Instructions were vague and I had to look at on line pics to determine build sequence. Here it is, pictures aren't great, but you c see it.
  14. I drove a real one when I was 16 and it scared the BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH out of me. Your's looks great.
  15. Don't they do something like this down under?
  16. What about the AMT (MPC) 1976 Plymouth Duster er Dodge Dart. You can even read Dodge on the front of the display model.
  17. I think they are all 2244
  18. Wow, I built the 2+2 kit back in the 90's because it was an interesting looking kit. I had know idea the kit was wrong (no internet) Painted it bright yellow, which is probably wrong too. I wasn't a big Pontiac fan (still not), but it was an easy and fun build. I usually don't build for absolute accuracy, I just like to build.
  19. Some comparative pictures, there were 4 different versions of the box top for the Monogram Coors Thunderbird. Two Superspeedway and two Grand National. One Superspeedway has Melling on the box. There are three different pictures of Bill Elliott, one is shared on a Superspeedway and a Grand National box. I have all four in a box somewhere and only one is sealed and they are worth considerably less than what I paid for them. Also, there may be other tops, but these were the only ones I was aware of.
  20. Here is one on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEALED-ULTIMATE-SOLDIER-WWII-German-Army-Motorcycle-Sidecar-12-figures-/251454342524?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a8bd8c57c My son has the Steve McQueen version without sidecar from The Great Escape
  21. Saw it last week. A don't miss movie for music fans
  22. It was built for static display. I could have built it to fly, but most builders opinions on this kit is it too heavy and flies poorly. So, in order not to accidentally wreck it, I chose to display the plane.
  23. Could they possibly make the side windows smaller? I don't like the style of new cars with the high window sills. I like to roll the windows down and rest my arm on the window sill. I'm tall and the armrests are way to low. And finally the new Mustangs (the lightest and still too heavy), Challengers and Camaros are all too big and heavy. The interior size is OK, but the rest is too big, 2 tons+ for a "sports car", sheesh!
