1991(3) Monogram #2 Rusty Wallace Miller Genuine Draft Winston Cup
THarrison351 replied to THarrison351's topic in NASCAR
I Agree! Thanks! Thank you! I've found Tamiya gloss black to be the best out of the can over any other method besides airbrush. Thanks! Thank you! Thanks! It was a good build Thank you! Thanks! Thank you! -
This was released in 1991. By this time, the good parents had convinced manufacturers anything that could be considered a toy such as a model kit like this one. Could no longer have anything with tobacco or alcohol advertising on them. Thus, it was released with Rusty's colors and number, but Pontiac as the sponsor. I started building this twenty odd years ago as the Petty 43 last year car. Then my dad gave me a Franklin Mint version so I never finished it. Along the way, parts were robbed for other projects. Anyway, it's now finished with proper MGD decals from PowerSlide and Tamiya paint. Not historically accurate for 1993, but close. I mean the chassis is completely inaccurate, and those are five hole wheels. Looks OK on my shelf. The last picture was a quick mockup with parts I cobbled together.

Safety in the 50's
THarrison351 replied to TarheelRick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In the mid-eighties a local dirt track near Plattsburgh, New York, I was acquainted with the street stock champion. His car's (Duster) roll cage was stick welded black pipe (iron) that had been previously used in a Charger that was wrecked too badly to continue to use. They just cut the top off each of them and welded the cage in to fit. Can't even begin to imagine what would have happened if he'd ever been hit in the side. -
He looks like an escapee from Robot Chicken

Thanks CT! I built this for my dad. He had built the MPC #15 Isaac Torino when I was a kid. It didn't live through the eighties and It was unobtainable when I bought this as a replacement. At the time, the RC Cola decals were the only ones I could find for the Bud Moore #15. He had it in a case until he passed in 2008 and that's when I got it back. I now have the rereleased Sta-Power Torino and will do a replica one day.

Revell Peace Van

Thanks! Thank you! Thanks! Thank you! It was fun! -
That's cool! I just finished the Peace Van yesterday and posted it in the trucks and vans. I built a few of these when I was a kid, including the planes. Would be great if they were issued again.

Another one my son bought me. This one was from years ago. It's got a $14 price tag on it. Anyway, it's a re-release of one of the Deal's Wheels caricature cars from the seventies. I built a few back then, no paint of course, but not this one. Fun, easy build. Except I'm not much at painting figures. Comes with a magnifying glass to view the tiny 3.6 HP VW flat four. Threw it together after the paint, just get a feel for how it would look

I've flown several models all with disastrous landings. Usually because my foot follows after. Yours appears to have survived rather well! I've built two of these Dusters and final assembly is not the easiest.

I'm so jealous. Wichita barely gets anything -
Thanks! Thank you! Yeah, it went together very well. I used to have the later SC and a Mercury XR7, but I sold those on eBay. Monogram really did a good job on 80s and 90s annuals. Thanks! Thank you! Thanks! Thank you! I agree! Thanks! Those lights are kind of fiddly. OK. I'll give it a shot. Thanks! Thank you! No, I no issues at all. In fact it's not even glued in. Once I glued the windshield and interior tub in, I slid the chassis into place until it was all aligned and friction held it. Thanks!

Another one started over thirty years ago and put away. This one was missing some tiny pieces. Mirrors, lenses, and decals. I created new door mirror glass out of plastic stock and foiled them. I stole the interior mirror from a Mustang low rider convertible that I've stolen other parts from. I'm still missing the fog lamp lenses. When I opened the box it turned out I had glued the aero kit on as well. The included extra wheels and tires looked terrible. I don't have any modern low profile big wheels, because I don't build those type of cars as a norm. I decided to strip the stock wheels and paint them black. Not great, could use a bigger tire and be lowered. The color is Testors Sapphire blue decanted, and sprayed over flat black. The red body stripe is the body plastic covered in BMF. Then I sprayed the body flat black and covered the body molding in more BMF and masking tape. The only drawback was this new BMF leaves a sticky residue you have to remove. Painters tape worked for me. The interior is a mix of custom gray with with Tamiya TS15 Blue and flat lacquer. I used those glue on instrument decals you can buy on eBay. Not great, but better than I can paint. I was in such a rush to finish it and post tonight, I forgot to put on the license plate. How I found it in the box. Those wheels

These are the tires that come with it. They have Goodyear branding. All I did to them was reverse them, smooth the surface and add the firestone decals. The rear wheels are what was changed. The front and rear wheels have the same depth in the mold. Even though the rear tires are wider when you assemble them, the rear wheel halves are stuck down in the tire too deep. What I did was added the outer portion of the rim from a Monogram NASCAR wheel

This represents the 2D Coupe that competed at Daytona in 1966, the same year it was originally released. This is the 1996 release. A curbside that could be used for slot car racing. It represents the real car OK. I added some bigger exhaust tips, enhanced the rear wheels, velocity stacks, and detailed the rear wing. I opened the brake intake ducts on the side and front too. The rest was paint and better decals. I did not add the oil cooler. I didn't have one to add.

Yep, Falcon had them too! Should have checked mine. I recognized them, but the 1964 Ford Galaxie popped up first.

Looks great Randy! Wheels come from the AMT '64 Ford Modified Stocker.

I've been having the same problems too and tried to use Edge and it made no difference. Also when I posted a new topic earlier, I had to use a different Fotki URL to post images. Never had this problem before either. -
Another one of the many kits I started and put away so many (30+) years ago. So, I pulled it out, noticed I was building it as a custom. Not usual for me. I even changed the induction to a dual carb tunnel ram. It's slammed and some kind of alloy wheels. Dummy spotlights? OK. I had fun with the paint. Factory like, but brighter. Rustoleum yellow and Testors metallic green. Various paint pens for the seat inserts. So. Much. Foil! Yes, there is a drop of glue on the windshield! Argh!!!! It happened when I was adding the blower fan housing to the firewall! I might try to sand and polish it out. After everything was initially painted. My new phone really makes that geen pop more than it actually does. This is what was in the box as I found it. So surprised it survived intact all these years and nothing was missing.

This was one of the first kits I built as a kid in the seventies that looked good to me when it was finished. I didn't paint the yellow body, but everything else was painted. I had it for a long time(relative) compared to the ones that rolled because those were played with and would get bashed and eventually blown up with a firecracker or two. I also had the black street rod version, and like the Badman it was left in the plastic color and everything else was detail painted the best of my abilities. Eventually those were damaged and tossed along with most all of my childhood builds. So when it was reissued in 1999 I snapped one up. Finished it in 2013, and even with all the inaccuracies, it's one of my favorites.

Danbury Mint 1951 Hirohata Mercury by Barris Kustoms. For some this is a Holy Grail of diecast. It sort of was for me. My true Holy Grail car would be the 1934 Ford "The California Kid". As to this one, the first time I saw one I thought how remarkable it was they were able to create so many fine details in a production model. From the movable vent windows and spot lights to the tiny frame rollers at the back to prevent the bumper from scraping, it's amazing. One other detail you'll notice if you handle one is the way the doors open. They pull back and hinge, a two step operation. The doors fit incredibly tight.

The only one I've built is the pre-painted ProShop version, so my changes were limited. Still has the parting lines too, because AMT did not remove them before painting the bodies
