Question on Glue Bombs
RyanSilva replied to Jim B's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Purple power loves to eat metal! especially diecast. I dunked a old duster I build when I was younger. I had used superglue. Purple power helped brittle the glue and everything snapped safely apart. -
My fotki is down aswell, makes me wonder if there was some maintenance they fail to notify us about, as usual!

When I soak bodies in purple power it eats away the putty. usually water will soften it up also. -

Ben is a member here, he goes by the name.."Ben" His wheels are far superior to those aluminum ones pictures above. To me those aluminum wheels, the center is far to small surrounding the hub., and the lugnuts are far to tiny. This is what Ben Mastered for Jamie who casts the wheels (mo'luminum) http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=3&category=9&product_id=275 Sourkrauts is a truck part dealer. The thing is, most of the mo'luminum stuff arent in stock, so you might need to get Jamie's contact details to get them directly. -

The real color would be Alpine Green, Dupli color makes the color as a enamel engine paint like this http://www.tcpglobal.com/SprayPaintDepot/ItemDetail.aspx?ItemNo=DUP+DE1618 Model Master also sells a color close which on the color chart is Model Master Acrylic RLM 25. http://www.testors.com/products/136851 -

Chevrolet Titan Day Cab Single Axle
RyanSilva replied to RyanSilva's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I was given some Aluminum pipe used to make Bow Rails on boats, it's great stuff to machine, plus the heavy wall allowed me to turn it down a bunch. I redid the Air cleaner again, and turned down some resin for the ends. Not shooting for a Titan/Detroit prototype, just a simple can shape. The rear axle and much of the frame was done in many shades of brown, dabbed on by my trusty fat round bristle brush. I added the red after just to breakup the brown everywhere. I used a it of rubbing alcohol on it to pick away some of the red to get a chipped paint effect. It will get some axle grease afterwards. -

Chevrolet Titan Day Cab Single Axle

Dan, I'm still debating on using my 2 hole budds on the back as well, most likely will do the 5 spokes in the pic though! -
I'm not much of a sleeper fan, conventional or cab overs, so day cab it is! I taped a line 4.70mm from the body side door jam, sharpied a line to follow, then made the cut with a xacto saw. The cut came out a bit rough..but it worked. I'll use some baking soda and superglue to fill the gaps. I started getting the chassis finished. Not done painting the chassis, but it is coming together. Using a few shades of brown acrylics dry brushed in layers. I started on the fuel tank. At first I was gonna use the square ones, but said to hell with it and made a aluminum tank and added the C600/900 fuel tank sides to it. i'll end up casting the tank a long with theframe mount too.

You cant go by what the retailers say for the expected date. Same usually goes for video games when they are on preorder. The retailers need a date, so they use their best judgement to figure one out, usually a projected date from the company, but that might not be up to date -
priming / sanding
RyanSilva replied to cowboysevens's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Dennis, while handling the superclean/purple power(walmarts brand) Use rubber gloves! do not get it on your hands, as it sucks the moisture from your skin, leaving your hands dry and cracking, no lotion will fix it. Just a safety precaution. Ive used latex gloves with good results..although they swell up..it still protects ya. If you have a michaels craft store and a weekly 40% coupon (or a 5o%) off , use it on a can of white plastikote primer (or valspar as they changed names) its a lacquer, it flows really good, better than any model master primer. Dupli color is a good 2nd choice if you cant find the plastikote. Plastikote is nearly bulletproof spraying it (in my opinion) -
Before I sold my home built booth setup to a friend, I used a Boat Bilge cage fan. They are made for toxic fumes and such, They are basically the same as squirrel cage fans. If you have any boat marine stores locally you should be able to find one.

looking for a detailed 240z kit
RyanSilva replied to Corvette.Jeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not sure if its all the revell 240s or just my kit. But the passenger side door and window needed to be rescribed heavily, do to washed out seams, big pain in the butt, enough for me to scrap the body! -

Been a while since I touched this Ive been playing around with a better front axle. At the time I used what I had... But now I have the trumpeter ALF kit to part out! (wheels suspension and tires) the 4 wheel drive axle for the front, Its part trumpeter ALF suspension, and part louisville front suspension. Its nearly a direct fit for the Ford louisville chassis's from AMT. (dump, tractor and box truck) The diff is nice and slim so it should clear most engine oil pans. It isnt replicating anything exactly, just a basic medium duty front axle (6,000-10,000lb). Its kind of a rarity in the resin world..aside from the KFS unit for doing a heavy truck. I still got to build a transfer case and the axles and knuckles/spindles. Once those are done, I'll start pulling a mold off it. Anyone know of a kit to serve a good base for a decent size transfer case? -
Classic Big Rigs single and tandem rear set ups
RyanSilva replied to dencon's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
From all my research, the one place that stands out that has plenty of working bigjob fords, still doing their duties to this day is Cuba! USA still has many doing what they do..but majority (whats left) are rotting in a field some where. Granted the cuban trucks almost always have a different running chassis under the f-7/8 body panels..but hey..whatcha gonna do? hehe. -
Anyone tried "Weather System" powders?
RyanSilva replied to Chillyb1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I use them whenever I build. You can make washes with them by using some 70% rubbing alcohol and a little powder mixed in by your paint brush. A little goes a long way, just dust it on in light coats by a soft paint brush or mini makeup brush/sponge.
