Unpleasant task
unclescott58 replied to landman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Two beautiful Mustangs. -
The NNL North was held in Bloomington, MN today. I picked up the following kits. 1. Tom Daniel's Tijuana Taxi. 2. Monogram's Kurtis Kraft Racer. 3. MPC's '71 Plymouth Roadrunner. 4. AMT's (ex MPC) Connoisseur Classics 1932 Chrysler Imperial Roadster. Prices were all fairly reasonable. The Roadrunner was the most expensive kit. And that I got for $25.00. Besides those 4, I won two others in the raffle. First the MPC's 1914 Stutz Bearcat Raceabout. Very, very cool! I was very excited by that one. And second, Revell's Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. I'm not as trilled by that one. I'm not a big fan of modern Ferraris. It looks like it might be a nice kit. I just haven't decided what my plans are for that one yet. Build it? Or sell it? Still, either way I'm happy with winning it.

Hotwheels is 50!
unclescott58 replied to Miatatom's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Okay, Hot Wheels came out late spring, not summer. Despite that and the article you linked to, I'm not buying that the toy was out before the real thing. Could there have been test shots of the toy late in '67? Maybe? Yet the press was shown the real car that summer. It doesn't make sense that Hot Wheels '68 Corvette was seen by the public before the real thing. Now could I be wrong? It's possible. But I think this is just a wishful myth that a lot of people would like to believe. The first time I ever encountered Hot Wheels was on the back on of May or June 68's issue of Batman comics. They have a two-part story, over two issues. "Operatetion Blindfold" I think it was called? The first issue introduced the track. The second issue had the ad shown above. -
I'm looking forward see both of them when you get them done. Enjoy. It's a fun, but simple kit to build.

Looks great. I too have one hiding in my stash someplace. So low on my must build list, I doubt that I'll ever see it done.

Urban myth. Hot Wheels came out in the summer of '68. The '68 Corvette, the fall of '67. I've always wondered how this myth started? So many people believe it, because it's been repeated so many times. -
Johan prices $$$$
unclescott58 replied to NYLIBUD's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Despite the high prices, I would not sell my JoHan '68 Plymouth police car. I'm glad I got it, at an affordable price a dozen years ago or so. -
I got this a couple of days ago. But just got a chance to watch it today. It's a pretty good racing movie from 1932. The Crowd Roars staring James Cagney. The racing footage is pretty good. The story is fair. Cagney is great. Directed by Howard Hawks. And a good ending. I liked it. I'd give it 4 stars out of 5. Happy to add it to my collection.

Johnny Holt, above says it moves. And I watch Right-On-Replica's YouTube build of kit. They talk about and built theirs to move. I thought I remembered it doing so. I went ahead and ordered one on eBay this morning.

As cool as the two Customs using Garage Truck parts are. I'd like to see some Garage Trucks built straight from the box. I have a question about the kit. Is the platform the music group stands on, designed to move slightly in and out in the back? The instructions make me think this maybe the case. I've never owned this kit. And the only one I recall ever seeing was a neighbor kids, build sometime in the late 1960's. Maybe it time for me to buy one?

How does this fit here, under the "general" model category? And not under the "off-topic lounge" section?

??? I don't get this? ☝️Who or what is Pip's? Who was doing standup there? And how does this fit in with the topic?

Tim, I hope you thank John for passing on this information on to us. I think that he and the others at Round 2 are doing a great job. Since they took things over from RC2, I've been spending a lot more money on models than I did in the past. Keep these old reissues coming, and I will continue buying and building them. As far as new kits? I think Revell has been doing a great job in that area. Their new and reissue kits have also grabbed a good chunk of my change. I hope they keep going the way that they have in recent years. I'm delighted where the hobby has been going in the last few years. Rather than complaining, I keep trading those green slips of paper for the plastic that I like. And the model companies keep bringing out, both new and reissued plastic, that I keep giving them more of those green slips of paper for. It seems to be working out pretty well for me. Is there other stuff I'd like to see come out in model form, not offered now? Of course. But, those green pieces of paper seem to do a pretty good job of telling the model kit companies of what I'm willing to buy, and what they should consider putting on market. So I'm not really going to complain. Also as far as going to happen to our hobby in the future? Who really knows? I can only influence it only so far. Plus if it dies when I die? What can I do about it? And really, why should I care? More than likely, life will continue going on fine without me. It went on fine before I got here. In the future they may do, or enjoy, the same things I did. Then again, they may not. Just as there are things people use to do in past, that I and most others do not do today. And that's okay. It's neither good or bad. It's just the way it is. Remember the old say. It's still true today. And will be into the future. "Money talks. B.S. walks." Hobbies run by making money.

I hope they never mess around and modify those old classic kits. I like them the way they are. Overall I find the chassis on most cars boring. Some kits get frustrating trying to get the details parts together. Especially those with working front suspensions. MPC's Corvettes from this basic era are good examples of this. They're a pain in the you know what to build. How many pins have I broke on those, trying to get the steering to work? Give me good solid metal axles, for a good solid chassis for my kits to sit on.

Beautiful.

You NEED this book!
unclescott58 replied to Terry Jessee's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know it will meet my expectations. But then again, I have very low expectations! ? Of course I'm kidding. Everything you written in the past, books or magazine articles, that I've seen has always been best. And I'm sure this will be too. -
Cool! A neat concept. And neat execution.

Looks good.
-
Nice job on building it.
-
Very nice.

By the way, what is the history on this kit? When was the last time it was put out by Revell?
