  1. That's not it. I may have run across the ones I'm thinking of on a toy soldier website. There was a company called MPC. No relationship to the MPC model company we all love and know. This other MPC made plastic toys. Mainly toy soldiers. In 1954 they offered a set of cars based on real 1954 automobiles. They were small and crude, but did represent real cars. All were American models I believe. They did an updated series of cars in 1961. Now including both American and foreign cars. They were offered both through retail. Mainly 5 & 10s. And in ads in comic books. Beside the two series mentioned above, they also did a classic cars series. The '61 cars and classic cars were made and offered until about 1970. I am 99% sure that these are the cars I'm remembering seeing in the comic books. Looking at the cars online, I may have owned several. Or played with others who owned these cars. The '61 series had the names of the cars molded on the rear decks. From reading online, the '61 Comet may have been listed as an Edsel. Which is what the Comet was originally suppose to be. When I read that, I seem to remember that on their toy. My folks had a real '61 Comet. So that would have stood out to me. They also stated the Alfa Romeo was listed as a Alpha Romeo on its deck lid. That I don't remember. Looking at the cars, I'd love to own a set of the 61's especially. They look pretty cool. And there are several for sale on eBay. The right set comes up, I may be buy some.
  2. Followed up with a search online shows quite a few pictures of these blocks. My memory was correct from what could see. One could build buildings kids could play in with these blocks. Here is one I can not find anything about online. I remember an ad in early 60's comic books were you got a number of little plastic cars in a set for low price. It was kind of like the 100 Dolls for $1.00. But, with cars instead. I don't remember exactly how many cars you got. Or for how much money. I seem to remember that the cars were modeled after real cars. Regular cars. I beleive there was for example, a 1960 Rambler. An early Valiant. And a '59 Thunderbird. Beyond that, I remember very little. I do know I always wanted a set.
  3. That them! How big were theses blocks? Is my memory correct? Were we able to build decent size walls and/or small buildings with them? I haven't seen a set of these since I was at least 7 years old. Before we moved out of our old house back in 1966. They don't look all that big in the photo. But then again, we have nothing to really compare them to in the photo. Being that these were made from basically styrofoam, from what I can remember. There can't be too many set of them still around?
  4. Does anybody remember in the early-to-mid 60's larger foam building blocks that were marketed in conjunction with the Flintsons TV series? They may have been called Bedrock Building Blocks? But I'm not sure on that? I just remember the neighbors across the street having set. And building walls and maybe even buildings that were big enough for us kids to sit in. Besides the neighbors across the street, I remember seeing them at other peoples houses too.
  5. Being in West Virgina, which side do you root for when playing with the above Civil War play set. No need to answer that, I'm just kidding around. ?
  6. Fixed it, I hope Harry. So you should be able to understand it. A quick search on line, seems to indicate the '59 Cadillac's were the tallest. I may do more research. Just not now.
  7. Sometimes this web site doesn't always works the way it should. Now to finish the line I was trying write above: And I agree with Rob Hall that the '60 Plymouths fins have to be close too.
  8. You might be right, I would need to do more research to confirm one way or another. It's always been my understanding it was '59 Caddy. But the Imperial above looks bigger. And agree with
  9. In the last few days, I got the Polar Lights pre-decorated 1/1000 scale Star Trek Enterprise and Klingon D7 Battle Cruiser kits. Detail is very good on both. And it's sometimes nice to build a model you don't have to paint or apply decals. Even though they are both snap kits, I did glue them together.
  10. You can still get the above rocket brand new. They're still being made. Go on eBay and type in "water rockets." They go for right around $10 now. And they are still fun to play with. (As you can tell by reading my posts here. I'm still nothing but a kid in a grownup' body.)
  11. Been working through all eight seasons of Mannix on DVD lately. I own the entire original Star Trek series on DVD. I also have the Twilight Zone, Supercar, Stingray, Lost in Space, Batman, The Time Tunnel, and some Voyage to the Bottom of Sea. Plus more. And I'm thinking about adding Route 66 to my collection. So I guess I like old TV. Sad to hear that Alan Young of Mr. Ed fame, passed away yesterday. Though he was 96.
  12. Steinbeck for me too. Love "Of Mice and Men." Bradbury and Mark Twain rank high with me too.
  13. Back when Saturday Night Live was worth watching.
  14. Just to let you guys know. The kids at the one school I work at, started on their Revell snap Camaros today. With mixed results. Despite being a snap kit, these little buggers are not that easy to put together. We only had a half-hour to work on them today. So no one got their's finished. But, they all seemed pretty please and enjoyed working on the kits. One kid threw a bit of fit when told he was told that he could not bring his home today, and finish there. The teacher wants this to be a class project. Everybody learning together. At the same time. Including her. She has never built one before herself. I will be back there next Thursday and Friday, so hopefully we'll get them finished then.
  15. Looks pretty good.
  16. Nice '32. And it makes great album cover. I don't know if your breaking any rules by showing the album cover with your model on it. I'd still only buy it if I liked the music. And since I've never heard your music, I'm not rushing out to buy it because of your model. After all, I can see your model here for free. I do wish you success with your music, and do hope your model attracts attention to your bands music and album.
  17. Yep. The fins above are some of the greatest and most distinctive ever made. I believe they may be the tallest ever put on a production car. The all mighty '59 Cadillac. Back in the day, only Cadillac could go over the top like that, and make it work!
  18. From what I remember the Bison was not too hard to build. I wish Revell would bring it or the GMC General back. In fact I'd prefer the General.
  19. Heard anything yet Steve? I too talked to them at the NNL North as you know. I'm hoping they are as good as they sounded in person. Several MCCM member have used them with good luck, is my understanding. I have not tried contacting them yet.
  20. Okay. That looks like a DOHC Hemi.
  21. What year was this? And how much track time did you get for your 50 cents?
  22. Very nice Al. But, you need to tell us more. Did you use Revell's '70 Torino for the chassis and interior? And if you did, did encounter any problems or minor tweaking that may need to be done to get it to work. I'm still considering buying the Missing Link kit. Just want to know what I'm getting into in this one before trying it.
  23. Wow! Is this cool. What a great idea. And first three vehicles look great, I like the wheels much better than I expected. A little history before you start the Custom Fleetside. It was not based on a Chevy Fleetside pickup like one would think. It was based on Hot Wheels designer, I beleive Larry Woods, personal truck. Which was really an El Camino. There plenty of info on line. Including pictures of the real customized El Camino. I was never all that convinced it was based on an El Camino until I saw pictures of the rear truck. When you see it, you'll see the Hot Wheels version in a whole different light. Looking forward to the rest of builds. I love the idea.
