  1. I like the the big Fleetwood Broughams and Seventy-Fives from the 1971 - 1976 generation of Cadillacs. Scott
  2. The same friend who had the Crew Chief Blazer back in the day, also had the Jimmy. Being a big GMC fan, I'd love to see the Jimmy come back too. Scott
  3. Your not hijacking my tread. This tread is for everybody interested in the Dragonfly model. If there is a problem with some of the kits, it's nice to know. It's also nice to know how to fix any problems with the kits. If your hijacking "my" tread, I say go for it. I want to know more about your problem and how you resolve it. Scott
  4. As much I like early Corvettes and their "All American" looks. I've always like this one too. Not your typical Corvette from the time, but still gorgeous. Scott
  5. Good luck. I'd be courious to hear how it turns out. Even though my kit is not showing the problem. But, as Snake pointed out, it can happen with other kits. So it would nice to hear about end results. Please keep us posted. Scott
  6. Congratulations. Scott
  7. Who ever did the build above, did a great job. Yet the proportions are little off. But, it looks like it can be built into a decent representation of an Eldorado Brougham. It's got me thinking. I've had pretty good results building multi-piece bodied Revell kits in the past. I may need to add this one to my collection. Scott
  8. Good question Tim. I just got my Chevooom a couple of days ago. They make no real note of it, but the triangle areas are shown in gray in the instructions just like the other part that needs to be cut off. Sorry I'm unable to post a picture of my instruction sheet. But, it's there. Your comments about need to do the extra cutting got me to notice it. If you hadn't brought it up, I might have missed it at first. So thank you pointing out the need for extra cutting. Scott
  9. This may sound stupid. As I started doing some preliminary work on my Blazer this morning, the thought came upon seeing and handling this kit it's like seeing an old friend again for the first time in years. It's really nice to have the '72 Blazer out again. I've always love the Chevy trucks of this generation. And I like both AMT and MPC kits from that era. Having and working on this kit brings back very good memories. And here's the kicker. I never own a copy of this kit back in the day. I remember a friend having one, and lusting over it. But, I never owned one until about 15 years ago. Yet working on this kit is not taking me back 15 years. It's taking me back 40+ years. Weird. Scott
  10. No problems with mine. The plastic is fine on mine. Scott
  11. You are correct. I was talking about the saloon/sedan in this case. Scott
  12. Started some basic work on my Chevooom tonight. Things are looking pretty good. One of the first things I did was to cut off the rear section of the chassis as shown in the instructions. By the way, my instructions do show the triangles that also need to be cut from chassis. Test fitting the chassis I can see why these cuts need to be done. And the chassis fits well after the cuts are done. Scott
  13. ???? Explain? Why?
  14. I like the reported cause of the Stearman accident above. "100% Pilot Error (60% poor judgement, 40% poor techniques)" Wow! No question to who's at fault there. Scott
  15. Okay, I guess that's fair. Only will be 104 degrees here with 96% humidity. Feast or famine here on the Northern Plains. Scott
  16. Okay, more info. One of the attached extras the RCMP sent me, is a printed history listing 1974 for sure as the year for the switch to the blue cars with white doors. They also sent me a photo of a RCMP '73 Plymouth Fury. Again it is painted black with white doors. Looking at the MPC box art in the picture above, is that car blue or black? It looks blue to me. But, I'm not sure? Either way, I'm leaning more to painting my Caprice black with white doors, since the "official" information I've gotten from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police show and say the cars were black for 1973. And if you can't trust the RCMP, who can you trust? (And I'm not being sarcastic about that. I really do trust the RCMP.) It was a non RCMP, but a Canadian Police Car source that indicated the blue cars came in '73. Yet they had no pictures to back that up. Scott
  17. So does the body of model just sit lose on the chassis? Or is there some way securing it? Scott
  18. I try to build everything I get. Very rarely have I found a kit I wanted to give up on. I do best I can with each of them. Some are more challenging than others. But, hopefully that is making me a better modeler as I learn to work through those problems. Serval people in this thread have mentioned several kits I've seen no real problems with. Are these kits perfect in my eyes? No. But, I can work around most of their problems. And end up with a pretty decent model that I'm over all happy with. Scott
  19. I had a great day yesterday. I worked back at a High School I hadn't worked at this year yet. Worked in the Media Center (that's the library to us older folk) supervising AP study hall. But, I had kids from all over the school stopping by to say hi to me. And telling me how glad they were to see me. Sometimes I wonder if I'm having any impact on the kids I work with. Yesterday I walk out of that school on Cloud 9, knowing I'm having positive impact on the kids in that school. And I hadn't seen serveral of them in nearly a year. Then I went this month's meeting of the MCCM (Model Car Club of Minnesota). Had a great time there. Got some kits I've been waiting for. And after the meeting, several of us went over to a local restaurant and continued having fun and great discussions about model kits, cars, and other things. Plus a lot of fun joking and bantering. All-in-all, it was a very good day. I'm not big into religion, but I do have thank God for days like that. By the way, today has not been as rewarding or fun as yesterday. But you know, it's still been pretty darn good. Need to thank God again. Scott
  20. Hey you guys from the warmer climates, quit rubbing our nose in it, by telling us Northerners how nice you have it in Florida, Arizona, or where ever. We're going though another cold snap with no end in sight. We're suffering enough in our lands of cold and ice. Scott
  21. Thank you for your apology Joe. And thank you for thinking I may be doing good work. I try. I hear a lot complaining by people about how bad this or that is. Rather than complaining, I try to figure out where I can make changes that might make things a little better. I may not be able to fix the big problems. But, by fixing the small ones I can, I can sometimes help fix the bigger problems in the end. And by the way, not all of my attempts work or are even right every time. But at least I try. And overall I am seeing some pretty good results. Scott
  22. Via e-mail I requested info on RCMP cars of this time period, from the RCMP themselves. I just got a e-mail back from them with a bunch of attachments I haven't had the chance to go through yet. What I do know so far, is they know of the old MPC kit, but have no photos of it. They attach a photo of the a '71 Chevy 4-door done in black with white doors and the style of door decal as shown on Carl's model above. They also seem to indicate that blue colored cars really did not come in to use until 1974. So Carl, you may have built your model the correct color after all. I'm going to have to take some time to go through the other stuff they sent me. I will pass on more information here as I find it, if others are interested. Scott
