I finally put the wraps on this one today. When I started this build back in May(?) I had planned on making it a plain old J10. I found a nice shade Rustoleum makes called Rustic Mist (a metallic brown), so I thought I'd give it a try and picked up a can. After getting the body all primed and prepped, I shot some color on it. While it did have a good shine to it, when spraying it spat out a few random dark blotches here and there. I wasn't too happy about it, and thought of stripping the paint off and trying again, but, after a little time decided I'd just let it be as most of those little darker splotches were located on the passenger side and in the engine compartment. Well, fast forward about three months and the paint still hadn't fully cured yet and was slightly tacky. So much for the "fast drying" that is claimed on the can. During all that time waiting for the paint to dry I was becoming less and less satisfied with it. Every day I'd look at the box art and that Honcho look really began pulling at me, enough so that I pulled the trigger and stripped the paint. Color choice was easy as I love these rigs in black with orange stripes, just as the box art shows. I went with Duplicolor this time, and as always it didn't let me down. I faced a setback with the decals as well. After getting one side on, all the transparent areas silvered pretty bad....ugh. Luckily, Revell had goofed and put two sets of decals in the box. To overcome this, while tedious and time consuming, I carefully trimmed out all of the clear sections of the decals. As a result, obviously, with so much area cut out it was not an easy task getting them on the body. I think it took me over an hour per side. I should note, I didn't cut out the Honcho lettering but after the decals had fully dried I carefully brushed on some acrylic black on them. Paint and decals aside, the rest of the build went smooth and the kit pretty much just falls together. I made a body lift to clear the BFG's that were sourced from the F150 Raptor snapper. Wheels are parts box finds, as are the lights on the roll bar. The ones in the kit are huge and look like Mickey Mouse ears to me lol. For a cleaner look, I also removed the fire extinguisher from the roll bar, as well as all the lights on the brush guard. Under the hood there isn't much, so I made a heater box and added my usual wiring. It's not my best work, but still like how it turned out. Sorry about some dust particles in some of the pics, black is so much fun! Whew, sorry for all the rambling, on to the pics......

Like it? No, I love it!! Such a superb build, Marcos. Easily the best build of this kit I've seen yet. -
Sweet! It definitely has that period correct look to it. I'm interested, too. A few years back I built one as a super stocker as well, and used headers from a Thunderbolt. Boy that was a chore! Think I spent more time trimming and hacking stuff to make them fit than I did on the rest of the build.

I need to wipe the drool off my keyboard now. Excellent build, Tom. Very well done. What did you paint the cam covers with?....it looks very convincing.
-
That is very sharp. I've always thought these cars looked sooo good in gold or bronze. The redlines are a nice touch, too.
-
Incredibly well done, Michael! The paint, the detailing, the cleanliness.....beautiful!
-
Thanks for the comments guys, I appreciate them.

That is simply gorgeous, very well done!

Beautiful work, Curt. Love those GT-40's.

Thanks again for the comments guys. Thanks Kevin, it was your two Chargers that inspired me to move this one up to the top of the to-do list. I fashioned the exhaust tips from aluminum tubing, as I didn't care much for the ones in the kit. Yup you are right, it is spray painted. The paint I used is actual engine paint (enamel, wish it was laquer though) by Herbs Parts. I had found it at the Mopars In The Park show in Farmington, MN earlier this year. I hadn't ever heard of their paint before, but I picked up a can of it and am pretty happy with it. It'll last me a lifetime too as it's a 12oz can. I want to say I only sprayed two coats as it seemed to cover very well. Model Master Dark Bronze Metallic. I love this color.

Nice job, sure looks pretty in that color.

Thanks a bunch guys. I agree, it's a little bit higher than I'd like but I just went with it. I guess the owner cranked the torsion bars Lol. I assembled everything that needed to be turqouise, then painted it all as one unit.
-
Finally, I got another build finished today. Paint is Model Master Dark Bronze Metallic. Had to adjust the rear suspension to get the tires lined up in the wheelwells, and spaced them out a bit too as the rear track is really narrow oob. Speaking of tires, they are AMT pad-printed units. All in all a really good kit, though I did have some issues with the front valence/grille fit and a little with the hood as well.
-
That's a clean, and great, box stock build. That silver looks good on it.
-
Ahhh..now I understand the issue. Not sure why it did that. I'll have to remember to watch for that when I build my other one. If you enjoyed how the Chargers went together, you'll like building the Daytona as well....it's a good kit.

Wow you are off to a great start. Beautiful paint. -
Sorry to hear of all the problems you encountered, Kevin. Still, you turned it into a pretty darn good looking build. Man, those Torque Thrust's and Polyglas tires really set it off, excellent choice! As for the front end problem you encountered, was it leaving a gap in between the fenders and inner fenders? I've built two of these and experienced this problem on both. The only way I could cure it was by adding in some evergreen to fill the gap. Oh, and off topic here, but when I had commented on your sweet '68 Chargers I remember you saying you'd be looking forward to whenever I'd build mine. Well, I've been plugging away at one and finally getting close to finishing it, soon I hope Lol.

Absolutely love the show. Been a great season so far, but things happen so fast now I kinda miss the slower build-up of events that took place in earlier seasons. And I agree that even though it is so wrong, since they are Aunt and nephew, Jon and Daenerys need to share some "quality" time together. Won't have to wait much longer for that to happen..... But hey, at least they don't know they're related yet Lol.

I like your take on this kit, Mike. Nice work! Oh, and thank you for fixing the the decal, that upward slant drives me nuts! That little fix makes such a huge improvement in my eyes. -
