  1. Ryan?? Although the cost of the can may seem steep to you for 1 project.... I'm guessing you might get sucked-in & build more auto models? If that happens... Some of those future projects might have a vinyl roof ;-) Its always handy to have what you need on hand :-) Actually you're right about the semi-gloss black... You could go with that or Model Master has a colour called Black Chrome Trim, in its enamel range. This stuff is not quite flat & not quite semi-gloss. It's got a very mild "sheen" to it. What you could do is use this colour ( if you can source it?) & once you've completed the build, use a nice wax in the roof... It'll give you a perfect vinyl roof replication ;-) Cheers Cliff
  2. Good for you in trying something different. This kit is actually quite a good kit, a real good interpretation of the 68 Charger. What you'll need to test fit & maybe amend, is the front suspension- spindles. It's sits too high & need's to be lowered. ( easy enough to do ) Another is the vinyl roof. It's actually quite easy to get it looking realistic, in a variety of ways. Most people tend to use a flat/Matt black through the airbrush but with very little dilution ( thinner ) so the paint sort of splatters out in a thicker pattern, therefore replicating vinyl ;-) Or another method that I've used & is very realistic is with artist ( can ) adhesive. Tape/mask off the body & spray the adhesive over the roof. You will see the texture very close to vinyl. Next just airbrush matte/flat black over it. Hope this helps :-) Cliff
  3. S'pose you know that Aoshima's releasing both the 86/BRZ with full engine detail? ;-) Cliff
  4. It's exactly what you want from a "slump-buster"! Well done! People shouldn't be scared to try different paint schemes etc in this hobby... It's all about trying different things ;-) Cheers Cliff
  5. Well there goes my F40 colour plans!! Thanks alot! ;-) Well done mate! Love the colour, obviously! Would've looked cooler with matte black wheels though ;-) Cheers Cliff
  6. What kind of clear are you using? Auto 2-pack? What size A/B ( nozzle ) are you using? Using a .05mm nozzle is ideal. Your pressure is too high, lower it to no more than 10-12psi. 6-8inches away is fine. Most people don't realize, with clear, it's ok to get texture. First 2 coats should be mist coats, 2-5 minutes apart. Follow this with a medium coat & then 1-2 full wet coats, 20mins apart. The texture will blend. I use iwata compressor with iwata A/B & they work fine. Cheers Cliff
  7. If you intend on polishing it.... Then yes, clear coat it. 2 coats, even though they've come out nice, are not enough layers to ensure you won't wet-sand or polish through them. I'd wet-sand with 4000, possibly 6000 grit, hit it with 2-3 clear coats, then wet-sand & polish. Choice is your's to BMF before or after those clear coats? Cliff
  8. I think EVERYONE in this hobby has more than 1 "nemesis" build.... If they say otherwise... They're liars. Simple. I, like others, have had many over the years including a current German - Made In Italy, Supercar. Everything was turning out perfect on my first kit, paint/parts etc, until it came to polishing time... Then the C-pillar, being as fragile as Humpty Dumpty, decided to break! I tried a dab of superglue & although it held it back together, the crack was noticeable. I can't bring myself to display a model with a defect like that. So after having nearly 5mnths off from the hobby because my best mate passed away, I decided to try again, & went & bought another kit. Same deal... Everything turning out great, paint/parts etc... Then BAM... Yep ... Broke the d**n C-pillar AGAIN!!! I'm determined to get this kit made, hell or high water!! So it's caked in Easy-Off at the moment, awaiting a strip. I'll fix the C-pillar & start all over again!! Frustrating to say the least... Cliff
  9. Of course they do!! Hell yeeeeeeeeah!
  10. Yep metal fan here too. Matter of fact just saw, last month, Kiss/Mötley Crüe together, down here in Sydney! Can't say I'm a big Kiss fan, I was there for the Crüe :-) Great show by both bands though. Cliff
  11. Just a tip for both you guys... Easy-Off oven cleaner doe's the job quicker, cheaper & less messier- fresn paint or cured. Only thing to be wary of is fumes. Do it outside with a mask. Let the body/parts sit over night & wash with warm soapy water/toothbrush ;-) Cheers Cliff
  12. I hear ya mate! Working on the same kit, with the full detail engine, & I've had to strip it twice now! The colour went on perfect, as all Zero paints do, but I've been having issues with the Glasurit 2-pack clear. Both times I've clear coated & both times I got little fish-eyes all over the body. I've since learned it may be caused by the syringe I use to draw the clear/hardener out of the cans with. Apparently the very minute amount of grease in the syringe can cause fish-eye? & I believe this to be very true... I've never had issues like this previously, as I've never used a syringe to get the paint/hardener out before. So I'm gunna go back to the way I normally extract it & hopefully the clear coats will turn out as they're supposed to... :-) Hope you get some good luck too mate! Cheers Cliff
  13. Beautiful job Jay! I have all 3 GTOs & yet to build any! Lol. I've used SM CF also & it's great stuff. There is a company that makes correct 599 GTO sized wheels/tyres... Just can't recall their name... But I've gotta get their wheel set... So much better than Revell's attempts these days. Cheers Cliff
  14. Yeh mate that's true about the exhaust, reason being is, the kit's 2'n'1 offer.... Stock ( 440 ) or drag ( 426 Hemi ). They only supplied the exhaust for the 440 because drag cars didn't use exhausts, so they didn't supply one. If you decide to build another one, or another kit, with the same problem, get yourself some solder, with a similar diameter to the exhaust & use that to extend from the headers to the mufflers. It's a very good substitute & easily bendable etc ?? It's cool about the grill, everyone's got their own tastes but if you wanted to darken it up just thin out your flat black paint & layer the coats to how you'd like the grill to look ? Didn't know you're only 15yo... So great work mate! Keep it up! Cheers Cliff
  15. It's nice enough, to a point, like the guys have already mentioned. I wouldn't go overboard & say it's awesome though... There are a few little details, it seem's, you've over looked.. None of what I'm going to say is meant in a bad way, at all, just wanted to point out a few things that would maybe help in your next build? Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I only have the use of my iPhone & sometimes pictures aren't as clear as they are on a normal sized PC/laptop... But it appears the headers don't actually meet-up with the exhaust?? It also seem's like you forgot to spray the underside of the interior tray/bucket, as the white plastic can be seen. It appears the hood isn't sitting flush & I believe that's not your fault but a flaw with the actual air-cleaner, sitting too high on the carb'... It's an easy fix... Sand the air cleaner down from inside it... Get it to sit lower ;-) The grill is a little too chrome & need's more black wash to make it look closer to a 1:1 . Other than those little things, job well done! Cheers
  16. Yep old news... Topic already posted in General Forum...
  17. Bullitt followed closely by Ronan. Cliff
  18. Well done! Look's killer ?? Cliff
  19. Well i'm from Australia, specifically NSW. I've been in this hobby since around the age of 10-11 & i'm now 41. Model kits, be they Japanese/US/European costs us a fair whack of $ down here, at local hobby shops, which is quite odd considering our dollar is higher than the US dollar right now. For several years now, thanks to the internet & places like Ebay, i exclusively buy my kits off the net. Period. Even with shipping costs, US & Japanese kits cost between $10-25 less this way. We have been getting ripped off for years by retailers greed. There is no other word for it. Piece of advice.... There's a big Mopar market down here & you'd be crazy not to offer International sales in your business ;-) Cheers Cliff
  20. Firstly, congrats Terry! Well done mate :-) Secondly, i've never really had an issue with my weight, the most "over" weight i've ever been in my 42yrs, would've been 3-6kgs. I guess it's no secret the USA has the highest rate of obesity, per capita, in the world & there are many reasons for that, including the huge amount of fast-food restaurants that span coast to coast. Peoples lifestyles, work/career & many, many other things contribute to the obesity plague. Another of those things is alcohol, specifically beer. All these things combined add up to a very unhealthy lifestyle & in most cases premature death.... Attributed to " heart-disease". I'm sure many of us have seen an episode or 2 of The Biggest Loser? There's a lot people can learn just from watching the show... As far as weight watchers is concerned, although i've never needed to use them, i'm aware there's a fee ( monthly?) attached?? Although you say they work for you, and for some others, why pay them to lose YOUR weight? Why not join a gym, which also has a monthly fee ( cheaper than WW) Lose the weight at your speed ( and probably a lot quicker ) make friends ( costs nothing ) with fellow gym goers or PTs ( personal trainers ) get tips/advice from them for free ;-) I see no point in joining WW.... Advice telling you you can have pizza/ice cream/diet sodas etc is not good advice. Sugar+ salt = fat, doesn't matter how "lite or less fat " it claims to be. You said you'd like to tighten up that mid-section of your's, right? Cardio ( running ) strips the fat.... Sweat = fat loss. Sit-ups ( many versions ) will then tighten up your mid-section. Get yourself a health magazine or 2 & check out what you need to do to get fit & stay fit. A healthy mind = a healthy body :-) Good luck mate! Cheers Cliff
  21. So not only did GM take a big gulp of styling design from Ferrari, it seem's Callaway has too! Ever heard of the FF?? He's cloned it.... They're both ugly...
  22. First of all the wax itself has gold IN it & the bottle it come's in is 24K gold & diamond encrusted. I'd say that's where most of the asking price is swallowed up. The wax itself wouldn't be worth much more than a few hundred bucks. & to answer the Question... No. Cliff
  23. Tommy, thanks for sharing mate! I've just started working on Aoshima's kit & some of the detailed pics are exactly what i needed for reference! Cheers, Cliff
  24. I like it... But not as much as Troy's Buick... That thing was off-the-hook! Who made/own's this car? & what is it? ( sorry for my non-hotrod-ish ignorance ) Cheers Cliff
