  1. x 2: Great looking late 60's/early 70's paint scheme!!! Also that you painted the rear wheels and frame the same color as the lower cab ! Excellent execution !
  2. I just got my timo Mäkinen kit from Hobby Link Japan: Awesome!!! Though curbside, the kit is loaded with details: metal transfer emblems, fabric strips in blue and black for the seat belts, delicate photo-etch parts for the belt buckles, grill, brake discs and more, fantastic decal sheet by Cartograf, a perfectly proportioned body (Tamiya quality!) 2 different sets of tires (gravel/asphalt) round and square headlights, windshield wipers for right hand (Roger Clark, 1972) and left hand drive version (Timo Mäkinen, 1973), 2 different grilles with either round (rally!) or square headlights (racing!) - maybe I have forgotten some details, but this kit cries for being built in several versions: with the slicks and minilite mags swapped from Revell/ESCI's Escort MkII it is possible to make a Broadspeed or Alan Mann Touring Car racer (RHD).... I'm gonna get me at least one more - the Roger Clark's version looks good, too.....

Moreover, it seems to become more and more common to buy a new kit for 25,00 $, cannibalize it and try to sell the parts/trees for all together 150,00 upwards... for example: grill 9,99, headlights 7,99, cab 14,99, hood 12,99, engine 16,99, sleeper14,99, exhaust pipes 12,99, mudflaps 8,99 and so on... I saw things like that more and more frequently on ebay USA. Crazy, isn't it?
  5. Looks great - PEACE, brother!!! Is this a resin copy of ARII's Japanese bus body (1/32) mated to the front of amt's '50 Chevy PU ? I had the idea to combine this one with an amt PU cab to create a school bus but stepped back because of the bus interior (rather boring...)

  10. I'm with you, Sean, you're right - the mold lines are still visible and have not been adressed to. I can't imagine to pay more than maybe 5,00 $ for such a built kit. For me, it only makes sense if there is no other way to get a rare and old kit (f. i. I bought from a German modeler on ebay an ERTL International Transtar Coe, the forerunner of the Transtar II, for about 25 $ as a built-up - it will be disassembled, repainted and rebuilt; an unbuilt one would have been way out of my budget) Diecasts can be also a solution when there is no kit available (I'v bought several Alfa Romeos in 1/24). Those listings indeed can be entertaining!
  11. Just saw on ebay a Revell 1/25 snapper Peterbilt 359 "pro built" for 75,00 $ !!! Nothing on this model was "pro" - but the asked price: no detail painting (indicators on the fenders were still bare chrome, side indicators on the edges of the fenders were still unpainted, the rubber window seals/surrounds were also not painted, nor were the windshield wipers or the door handles. The whole truck looks unpainted - but I'm not sure) the only decals were some license plates, fleet numbers and Peterbilt logos! My opinion is: the FUN of model building is BUILDING !!! (and painting and detailing, of course) Can someone tell me why anyone should spend 75,00 $ on a (poorly) built model that is available everywhere for about 20,00 $ ??? This goes way beyond my fantasy! Some people are really out of this world, I think. - What do you think?

  14. Very nIce model truck, Chuck - although the original is not the most attractive machine. I built mine more than 30 years ago and I remember it was not the easiest build - especially the hood/cab didn't fit at all - will be rebuilt some day - I do hope that it will look at least half as nice as yours...

  24. I have a built-up which I bought more than ten years ago from a German ebayer. It will be rebuilt some day but the chrome parts (molded in red) show much red and little chrome, especially the exhaust pipes. But it will be turned into a fleet workhorse anyway, so there is no need for much chrome!
  25. C'est formidable, Jean-Jaques !!! A truly excellent model with a well deserved prize for its execution. "Eyeball time" has the meaning of very thoroughly inspection, i.e. the watchers/onlookers laid their eyes on it for a rather long time to look at every detail. I think this was meant.
