When Monogram issued the 427 S/C (blue metal flake version), I had to have one and decorated it similar to a magazine cover car, spray painted and clear coated with auto laquers from the can. As far as I can remember (this must have been in 1988 or 89), there were no issues except the white decals that were not opaque (the stripes did not lay down as I wanted - I had no decal setting solution - and the dark blue came bleeding through). So I brushed white enamel onto the stripes: not the best idea! Here are the pics of the 16-year old model from 2005: Last week I took it out of its box and found it looking much too clean/new/unused. So the wheels underwent a grey-black wash, and I tried to simulate the heat-stained exhaust which has to be redone (I used red and orange clear and a drop of metallic light blue enamel) - I must reduce the red, it looks like it ran over a deer! I will order some new decals and re-apply them to make it look better and go over some other details as well. Here are some more pics shot an hour ago (this is the magazine from the 80's which inspired this build):

The 1965 Mustang fastback is one of my favorite American cars ever since I had the Matchbox model in 1966. So when Monogram issued their 1965 Shelby GT 350, I had to have one. Build is from 1986, pictures from 2008. Metallc blue stripes are spray painted as is the rest of the body (auto lacquers from the can, trim is silver enamel from Humbrol) – straight out-of-the-box.

Very nice model of Björn Waldegard's 2nd place Stratos - Björn was instructed by Lancia teamboss Cesare Fiorio to hold back and not to attack Sandro Munari who was intended to repeat his last year's win (Italian team wants the Italian driver to win in an Italian car) . Compared with my Hachette 1/24 WRC version of the 1977 winner, the models sold under the "IXO" name, have even more fine detailing, for example the door locks and rear hood latches. A black wash for the wheels can be done, but is not necessary - see pic below (I have sent you PM)

Hi, Bernard, I had the Bburago FHC 30 years ago, and sold it , but the roofline always reminds me of the Bugatti 57. IIRC, it is a bit bigger than the Monogram kit (I have the Revell o G styrene reissue in my stash and had planned wheel swapping with Tamiya*s Mk II.

1/24 Jaguar E-types (Franklin Mint and others)

You will certainly be busy for a while with thes 1/8 Monogram kits, Scott. I have E-type kits from Gunze and Airfix (= ex-Heller), will probably buy the new Revell kits, but stay in the 1/24 range (for room reasons). -

1959 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer. New Photos.

Wonderful model, Steven - excellent colors and detail. It could almost be mistaken for a real one! -
Very nice model of an iconic automobile, Bernard. Your chosen color brings out those graceful lines very well. This brings me to thinking of using steel wheels and spats, too (first, I wanted to build mine with spoke wheels and without the rear wheel covers...)

1/24 Jaguar E-types (Franklin Mint and others)

This might be the reason why it is the cheapest available today, Matt. -
Every boy’s dream: Jaguar E-type (XK-E in the U.S.) Every boy of my age was an admirer of this iconic British sportscar classic in the 1960’s – several nice builts of Revell’s new kits could be seen in the last weeks here on the board. Of course, an endless variety of diecast models have been made over the last 60 years in many different scales. I would like to show you 3 from my collection in 1/24 scale: Franklin Mint’s 1961 Roadster 3,8: painted in British racing green, it features excellent details for its age (from the 1980’s/90’s?) – weakest point are the wire wheels and the plastic dashboard. Anyway, I snapped this one for € 5,00 at a flea market (very dirty, but complete apart from one missing windshield wiper) – after some cleaning, it looked pretty good – only thing I added was chrome foil on the doors and a pair of license plates - some day I will rework/repaint the very toylike-looking interior of this one and add the missing wiper (or add 3 new) - photos are from 2014: Franklin Mint’s 1961 Coupé 3,8: painted in red, the same features as above – I like the lines of the coupé even better! The air filter sports no chrome, otherwise the details are mostly the same. Won from an ebay-seller in the UK (no box, but in top condition – nothing missing) – again, added different plates (photos from 2017): Hachette 1969 2 + 2 Coupé 4,2 (baseplate says 1962 which is totally wrong, model is a series II car with the 4,2 ltr. engine and the elongated wheelbase to turn this into a 2 + 2 seater)- this is from the French series (hence the LHD and French license plates), released in 2017, and I bought it immediately. I should have been more patient : now it is available in a light metallic blue with dark blue interior and nowadays also in light red (both as Whitebox re-issues, all are made by Ixo). Though nothing opens here, the proportions look correct to me, but I would have preferred the silver-blue one. Only detailing was the exhaust end pipes (steels tubes) - a further Snake-fu will be necessary... All 3 together (pics taken yesterday): you can clearly see the differences with the series II version: raised headlights without covers, wheels knockoffs without “ears”, different indicators, bumpers and rear lights – a lesson how you can make a wonderful design uglier (Mainly due to adapting the car to U.S. government regulations – the USA were the most important market for Jaguar) – anyway, still an impressive car – I saw one on the road last week: low and narrow compared with today’s machinery.

Two long gone oldies from my collection: Monogram 1/24 "Heavy Chevy" Chevelle SS454 (1985 reissue) and JoHan 1/25 Oldsmobile 442 (USA oldies series) - built ca. 1986 mostly out-of-the-box; both have been spraypainted and clear-coated with auto-laquer from the can , trim is brushed on with Humbrol silver enamel. The following pictures are from 2008 - you can clearly see the similarities as well as the differences between these two: Before selling them off with a bunch of other models in 2020, I took some single photos of each (a further 12 years later) - here we go: JoHan's Oldsmobile: Monogram's Chevrolet Chevelle:

Fantastic model of one of my favorite Ferraris, Mark! -
Thank you, Phil - I have a soft spot for sportscars that are different (expecially Italians).
