Simply gorgeous! -
To Bill’s original question, I would have to say yes. I have a Model Factory Hiro 1:12 Eagle Gurney-Weslake that I got from a friend who admitted that he was never going to build it. I believe this is one of those “I’m in over my head” kits. I also have two Alpha Model Formula One kits that I’m a bit intimidated by. I’m not sure if it is truly an “I’m in over my head” thing, or if it is “these are expensive and relatively rare kits and I don’t want to screw them up” thing. I believe that I possess the skills to build them, but I, by nature, always second guess myself. I am past the “I’ll build it when my skills are better” stage. I just need to dive in head first and get these kits built.

Very nice, Bruce! Such a great livery. I built this one years ago and it is still one of my favorites. -
What a great looking Charger!

Fujimi Fina McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail
Nacho Z replied to Nacho Z's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Thanks for checking in, guys. Yeah, so I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree and I'm probably a bit passive-agressive...lol. I did not reach out to Hiroboy. I was dumbfounded that they would send the HD detail up set, which is packaged in an envelope, in a bubble mailer. The best I could have hoped for was maybe an apology and a discount on my next order. At any rate, I have posted the evidence of their quality shipping methods in several places and they will probably not get any more of my business. I believe that I can straighten out most of the damage, but there are some items that I can't get the kink completely out of. -
Nova Salt Flat Racer
Nacho Z replied to Pierre Rivard's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
I don't get to spend as much time on MCM as I would like to, so I am always a little behind on being able to go through all of the posts. I just now got to look through this thread. If there is a Pierre Rivard fan club, I want to be the president of it! I love the concept and I am really loving the finish on the body of the Nova! I appreciate all of the updates and the captions / explanations of what you have done. Keep it up and I'm looking forward to your next updates. -
Fujimi Fina McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail
Nacho Z replied to Nacho Z's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Thanks, Bruce! I had one heckuva time getting this to post. I cleared everything, restarted the laptop and started over and it took. I added a few pics to the original post. -
Here is what is next up on the bench. The Fujimi Fina liveried McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail. I know the Aoshima kit is a better kit but Fujimi has the Fina livery. Here is the kit and the kit contents. You may have noticed the Hobby Design detail up set and an aftermarket masking set in with the kit contents. These items were purchased through Hiroboy. Someone at Hiroboy thought it would be a good idea to send this fragile PE set from England to the USA in a bubble mailer. I was not impressed. The PE sheets were badly bent up. It makes me question buying anything from Hiroboy in the future. The Hobby Design set is very nice. Lastly, two pictures of the real thing. I think she is beautiful!!

Todd, Gravity Colors, Zero Paints and Splash Paints are lacquers. I have used all three brands. Zero has a reputation for being "hot". That has been my experience. However, I have used their Pure Brilliant White on several models with no issues whatsoever. I cannot speak to Fire Scale, MCW or Scale Finishes. I have not used these. Fire Scale does have lacquers.

I have had absolutely nothing but wonderful service from Gravity Colors! Their primer is all I use these days. They are the first place I look when looking for a specific color. I’m glad that you had a positive experience with them.

I thought that I would share my latest completed model with you. This the Revell 2005 C6 Corvette. Here is the link to the WIP thread in case you are interested. My overall impression of the kit is a good one. I would recommend it. Fit was good, no flash to speak of, and it looks the part. I wanted a dark blue Vette with red accents throughout. There are pictures of the inspiration for this build in the WIP. It is painted in Gravity Colors (Spain) Lexus LFA Liquid Blue. The hood and roof are done in Scale Motorsports carbon fiber. The kit's chrome wheels were stripped and painted in AK Interactive Xtreme Metals Metallic Smoke. I felt this tied in with the CF decals quite well. On to the pictures. Let me know what you think! Forgive me for a gratuitous picture. I finished this model the night before the show. I will admit that it was a smaller show, but I was very pleased with the results of its debut outing. Thank you for looking!

Revell 1966 Pontiac GTO in Tamiya Titanium Gold.

Fandamntastic!!! -
Time to look at the body. I primed the body in Gravity Colors (Spain) Dark Gray Primer and then shot it in their Lexus LFA Liquid Blue (see my first post for a picture of the paint). I shoot thin coats and set a timer for 10 minutes between coats. Even with this, I ended up with crazing on the hood, roof, and a couple of small parts on the body. I was able to fix the body, but I had no luck fixing the hood and roof. More on that later. Here is the body in color after repairing the areas that were crazed. Here she is after clear. The clear is still wet in these pictures. Masked up to paint the black areas and the marker lights. So, what did I do about the hood and roof? Carbon fibered them of course! Note that this picture was brightened up a good bit so that you could see the CF. The blue is nowhere near this bright. This is the last update. I will post some "glamour shots" in the Under Glass section. Thank to everyone who checked in, commented and liked this thread!

1992 Mclaren MP4/7 F-1
Nacho Z replied to Rich Chernosky's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Another beauty, Rich! Those McLarens....WOW! Great job on yours, my friend, thanks for sharing! -
Oh man, Anton, I completely missed that detail. Thanks for the heads up! Unfortunately, the model is done so I won't be able to correct that, but I will definitely keep that I my to do list for the next model.

On to the interior. Keeping with my main theme - dark blue body with red accents throughout, I wanted the interior to be black with some red panels. I painted the red areas first with Tamiya LP flat red and once cured, I masked it and painted the other areas Tamiya LP flat black. After the flat black was cured I masked the center stack and shot it in Tamiya LP metallic black. The finished interior. Next up will be painting the body. I definitely had some issues with the paint crazing the body.
