Moebius '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone news
Luc Janssens replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Think it's save to assume, that we won't see test shots of new kits, on the boards anymore. To me, as a enthusiast, that is a loss of excitement, but from a manufacturers point of view, quite understandable. The reason why is very obvious, let me explain.... While the product is still in the development phase, board members here will start the game, of finding the most discrepancies, this in turn, will lead to a bickering game, between them and those, who like the model as is, but foremost... and that's something we're not able to see in print, how many modeling lurkers here, will be scared off from buying the kit and also, who knows how much this board weights, on in the casual small talk at your favorite hobby shop, or circle of hobby friends, be it in person, FB or other social media, loosing again possible sales. Look at it this way, when a model buddy, shows you his latest project in the making, are you gonna go and humiliate him in public for something he missed like putting the directional tires the wrong way? Another one is, you did something wrong at work, is your boss gonna reprimand you, in front of all of your colleagues, or is he going to take you aside, or into his office and have a chat with you. And the last one, if you're self employed, did a job for a customer, are you going to be happy, when that customer pulls out all stops and goes mass media, when you delivered something that didn't meet his or her expectations? IMHO some of knowledgeable people here, in whatever field of expertise, should do some soul searching and start thinking about offering their discrete services to model companies, by sending in their resume. That way the R&D crew, has a much bigger network of knowledgeable people, to fall back on, people they can use for specific projects, who can help filter out the bugs, before the product goes to market, but be warned, that time, tooling and budget restrictions, will and I repeat WILL keep you from having the perfect model kit, it doesn't exist and will never happen. Your reward, I'm sure will be an advance copy of a production kit and eternal fame in your own mind ;^) Again this isn't about right or wrong, it's about voicing concerns in a different more positive way, will it work, I do hope so. Thanks Luc -
Also something I wish to add is, while another company makes it able for us modelers to re-live / Build the past, Revell realy slings the original concept / recipe, into the 21st century. Sure, they sometimes get flak for things they might have missed, or didn't get as accurate as some wanted, but they invest in all new exciting product, making this latest release IMHO the "Kats" Meow. Kudos to all involved in the development and Tim for the review.

Think this kit captures the essence of fun in model kit building, dreaming up a version while viewing all the optional parts, start building it and along the way buying some more copies, to (mind) build other versions.... As I said in another tread, will pick up a copy or two, while visiting the Toledo show in October.

will pick up a copy (or two) in Toledo this October.

Thanks for the suggestion, but already knew that. My plea was more like, what Round2 would have to do, to make me buy something, I basically already have in the stash, no more no less... It's not that the crew at Round-2 is doing a bad job, just want them to take the re-release program to another level, which can't be a bad thing, not? Thanks Luc
-
Too bad Round2 didn't tool some extra optional parts, to make this great kit, even better, parts like a hidden headlamp bumper, std. RR bumper, bucket seats with center console and last but not least some new footwear, be it 70s style street machine, or modern day resto mod.... Get Creative!

ha!, you're pulling a Downie, Gregg! IIRC Bob did a number of LHD conversions for American Satco in the '90s -

Every part comes at a cost, the design of a model kit IMHO, is form follows function, meaning does an extra part add value to the model, makes the assembly, painting easier and tooling-wise the design production and packaging simpler, or is it just an extra cost, which also complicates and could even halt the build. Anyone here has built the Mirror models Diamond-T wrecker kit? Anyway, hope to have my copy of this kit in the mail next week. -
Wow. As nice as the Revell kit is, I have a real soft spot for this kit. I built lots of them as a kid. The first gens are my favorite. However, the only reason I would purchase this is if the injection intake is included. The clear hood would be a nice touch too. Remember this kit having pesky sinkmarks on the "end cap" areas of the fender and RR1/4 panel. Hopefully they addressed that, production wise, or tooling wise by opening the grille and taillite cavity of the body

Think it will be a hard sell Greg, better find the best sales wrap to push this idea through... Maybe all the knowledgeable '33-34 Ford people on board, should stick their heads together and form a think tank and build a case on why an all new kit and what the content from it and it's siblings will have to be. This could send a positive vibe towards people in the industry, who're tired off all of the negativity vented here....

Brett, it was supposed to be a secret, Duh! Anyway folks, it basically boils down to this, the art of creating a 3D model from 2D material (when dealing with vintage subjects) , within a certain budget and time frame. No one is holding anyone back, to create their own model kits, just raise the necessary funds (250-300K) via crowd funding via social media and start one wild roller coaster ride LOL . -

I used to work on prototype vehicles and pre-production vehicles, on for a volume automotive manufacturer, which cars were and still are a compromise, due to the fact that they have to be sold in a certain price range/segment. The model kit industry doesn't realy differ, they to position their products into a certain price range, the question is what do you do when due to circumstances beyond you control it seems you're not ably to get to get it a 100 percent right for the lunatic fringe (us), but good enough for the 99% of the core segment you cater, sink more money into the project you know you never gonna recoup, or let it slide? Think as a business on this one, not as a modeler! The essence is that you and I not really differ in opinion, we both want the most bang for our hobby buck, but what to us is a hobby, to them is an everyday struggle to survive.... Hey Round2 Let's see these again......
Luc Janssens replied to Sledsel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tom is terrified that when he opens this mint kit, the tires etched into the clear parts. (happened to me on a few occasions, hence Im' not buying sealed vintage kits anymore.) Now in his mind it's still a perfect, time capsule. -
Me neither, I thought that after Round2 took bought the whole model kit line from Tomy, all 3rd party specials were a thing of the past.

I'm wondering if the tool of the '68 Galaxie is out there. Don't think it morphed into something else, but then again, if they had it, it was probably already released.
