35 Yr. Old Monogram 69 Camaro SS-Now "Under Glass"-07/20
AC Norton replied to mustang1989's topic in WIP: Model Cars
thanks, Ken....memories that are attached to many of our car kit's sometimes are golden, even though the kit itself may not be compared with other's. I know that most all of us have story's about kit's from special time's long ago.....like yours above from you high school day's. regards, the Ace.... -
35 Yr. Old Monogram 69 Camaro SS-Now "Under Glass"-07/20
AC Norton replied to mustang1989's topic in WIP: Model Cars
....it's the era we are from, as much older builders....they were the only game in town unless you had annual AMT 69 Camaros piled in the basement. some kits are just plain fun and exciting to own or build just, well, because they are.....and this Monogram car is one of them. and let's face it, there are many more kit's that we own, have owned, and for the same reason's love, that are even more horrid than this. but so what,,, I've often thought about thing's from time to time in this manner.....suppose a guy received a particular model way back as a gift,,,could be birthday, xmas, whatever, and it was a big event for him at that time. that model may have been a terrible kit, but at the time he slammed it together and loved it. I think you know where I'm going with this.....certain car model's just tug at your heart string's due to the time or place you may have enjoyed it, and also whom may have given that gift to you and why... I can tell you many do that for me, for many emotional reason's as well...I'll leave it there.....the Ace.... -

..........this has always been one of those kit's that, as flawed as it is, somehow screams out with potential if the builder goes the extra mile,,,,maybe two miles. over the years I've parted out probably a dozen of these back in the day when you could grab them at show's and such for next to nothing. I'm interested in your build, and know if it's tweaked just right, it will be very neat....best, the Ace... -

you may be right....I never followed funny car's that closely......the Ace....

now THAT type of Vette f/c body will make a very interesting build for sure.....only thing I wonder,,,there were various late 60s and early 70s ' Corvette body's used by some of the the funny car crowd exactly as you show in your photos....but I can't remember any of the later 74 and up body used, similar to the pic's.....maybe more inclined , Bill, to use an AMT/ERTL 70 1/2 body as your starting point... that way you have bumper's and tail light's to rework same as pictured above...those kit's are common as heck and usually cheap too....just a thought....the Ace....

Question about AMT Color Me Gone 64 Dodge
AC Norton replied to chriscarroll.ogre's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
.....much as I am an AMT Round2 fan and all, this was a poor choice of a reissue IMO, considering the fact that the Lindberg issue 64 Dodge s/s kit's must have been highly produced seeing that they are so very common and cheap to pick up online or at shows in general.....I love hemi light weight Mopars much as the next guy, but this was really just something to throw out there in the market to call 'new'....save your money, pick up a Lindberg cheap......the Ace... -
.......like Smokey sang,,,,'I second that emotion',,,,,.........the Ace..........

.......one of my all time favorite MPC kits, I have 2 still mib and 2 of the 1960s as well. you should find this a very interesting build project due to the many option's offered in that kit. I love the open steel wheel's on it, and wanted to ask you, are you building this stock or a race version as I am going to .....like to hear your thoughts, Robert.....the Ace.........

.......I should have known that, but for some strange reason thought otherwise. guess that's old age creeping in, or all the partying from the 70s still lingering...lol..........the Ace....

.....this has always been an interesting topic over the year's, and this particular thread is no exception...over the year's I have used several method's to get model part's to come apart .....I found that the yellow can, full strength Easy Off oven cleaner usually help's , or at least weakens the original glue so that a blade can usually get thing's loose for you. however, as Bill mentioned earlier on, if liquid solvents have welded part's together , it becomes tougher. failing that, I try locating new parts if possible, but we all know that can be tricky in many cases. glad I read this thread so far,,, some great ideas here from our member's..........the Ace.....

......all true, and if I may add, the annual 74, 75, 76 Duster kit's had the pro stock type hemi set up too with the small block as well, and both 75, 76 Dart Sport kit's all the same engine part's as the Duster kit's, if memory serve's.................the Ace....

..........have this kit in stock as well,,,looks great in the red on red combo. very nice piece, for certain..........the Ace....

Question about AMT Color Me Gone 64 Dodge
AC Norton replied to chriscarroll.ogre's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
yes but remember....the CMG and all the famous super stocker Dodges do not include the slant six, just a max wedge or hemi depending on which car we are talking about....you need the stock Lindberg version for the six and they are plentiful online too......the Ace... -
Question about AMT Color Me Gone 64 Dodge
AC Norton replied to chriscarroll.ogre's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
frankly, Christopher, if you intend on getting one, I'd buy an old Lindberg kit because they show up on ebay constantly and usually very cheap....just a thought.....the Ace... -
is that all........I thought you'd hold out for something really good........the Ace...

Does the AMT 69 Charger Daytona contain the Charger 500 parts?
AC Norton replied to LVZ2881's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
.....hold, on there, Babaluey......I'm a bit confused in all this ' Charger excitement'... I seem to have lost my way a bit. and Bill, with your collection of Mopar kit's and knowledge on all mentioned, I ask......I have a mib yellow 69 Charger 500 that I'm unsure of exactly how I would build, but do I need to seek out yet a different hood , or anything else when I deicide to.........also, I seem to recall yet another issue of this kit with a photo box with a red car and dog dish caps....jump in anytime....regards, the Ace....
