BJ McKay on steroids...

I remember this one fondly. What a great build. -
Peterbilt and pneumatic trailer
vincen47 replied to Dutzie's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Super. Awesome. Another spectacular build, and another one of those “Man, I wish they made a kit of that” type of builds. Did the trailer start with a Keystone tank? -
Freightliner FLC Photo etch Grill
vincen47 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Peterbilt. I got all excited, but didn’t take them out of the plastic to look at the back until you asked. I suppose not all is lost, there are two grilles in the bag, I could use the Peterbilt style with a White Freightliner and get the two bump for a later model FLC, or I think I could reshape them. Depends on price and availability, I guess. -
Freightliner FLC Photo etch Grill

Good news, my photo etch arrived today and it came with the headlight buckets! I don’t need to place another separate order just to get them. They were not in the photos when I ordered them from ST Supply on EBay. This is excellent, now I have all I need. I don’t mind altering the fenders myself, so no need for me to get the hood or the full set. -

It’s fixed from what I can see. I’ve had no issues today. Thanks so much! -
New Pop Up Ads
vincen47 replied to Mr. Metallic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep. I just made a topic post about this in the “How to Use this board” area. I understand people need to make money, but that’s annoying. Thought pop up ads were extinct. They should be. -
Incredibly annoying. A full screen ad when you click on a topic or post. Anyone else getting this garbage? Please put a stop to it.

Very nice! I’ve enjoyed watching this one come together. I like the uniqueness of the two-hole wheels. I would have dressed it up with polished Alcoa’s, but then, it would have looked like all the rest. Great to see someone take a different approach and succeed well.

Bolide Plastic Motor Works
vincen47 replied to vincen47's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Exactly! I was hoping to see photos of the actual parts, or at least someone to verify the quality. For the most part, he seems to provide good information, design, and prices. -
Looks like we have a fairly new aftermarket vendor. I posted this in the car section too, but they have several truck parts including racks, a vintage thermo king reefer unit, and a welding rig body for 60’s pickups. I’m curious about the vintage travel trailer too, but their choice in a concept photo makes me wonder what they are trying to do? Anyone heard of them or ordered before? https://www.bolidemodels.com/

Anyone have experience ordering from them? They seem to be new - searched and couldn’t find anything here on the forum. Looks like they have some interesting items. They do the printing in-house. https://www.bolidemodels.com/

Snap Kit Rig
vincen47 replied to Chariots of Fire's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That’s a really neat model. I agree, those AMT kits and promos have a lot of potential. Excellent use of a snap kit. I’d enjoy seeing more photos of this one, if you have them. -
A fine-looking Marmon. A unique subject. Nice details and finish, a pleasure to view.

Freightliner FLC Photo etch Grill
vincen47 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Well look at that. Maybe I should have waited to instead get the whole package with those newer round lights and the hood. I had figured I would just modify the kit fenders and cut out the grille shroud, and use the slightly older, Peterbilt version, of the round lights. -
Ford's Big Red turbine truck

Very neat article. I do hope that when the time comes, the truck finds its way into the Henry Ford Museum’s collection. -

Thanks for the tip! Just ordered a set for myself. -
I might get one of these this time around. I’d be more interested in converting it to a stinger type along with outfitting a tractor, so two would probably be needed for that project. However, as others have said, I’d be more excited for a Beall Tanker or other trailers that are rare and pricey.

Again, communication is paramount. Most people, including myself, don’t mind waiting a couple months, if the expectation has been set. I’ve patiently waited much longer than that. It’s perfectly understandable, especially if the castings, photo etch, etc. are being shipped overseas, for a two to three month turnaround. Sellers should put the expected timeline/shipping information on the website. Above all else, if there is an unexpected delay, sellers should send the customer an update. Life gets in the way sometimes, especially when they are balancing their real job, family, health needs, etc. It’s usually a side job getting the scraps of leftover time, so interruptions are understandable. But again, let the customer know, and within a reasonable amount of time - ideally, within a week or two of the delay. In general, I would say the expectation would be 8-10 weeks, at most, for items that are made-to-order. 4 weeks, give or take, for in-stock items. Like you said, If a caster needs more time than that, then they should pause taking new orders until they can catch up. That’s good service and common sense.

how many built models?
vincen47 replied to Paul Payne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I’m on the lower end compared to most, but I haven’t been at this, at least seriously, for very long (joined this forum in 2013 - the best hobby-related decision I’ve made). Built on display? 10 Current WIP on the workbench? 2 Kits the stash/upcoming projects? 47 Not a bad ratio of built to unbuilt, I suppose, but the number of “Armchair Hobby” hours spent researching and dreaming about building is in the thousands. I have made a lot of progress in the past couple years, having completed 4 builds in that time. -
Replacement chrome for semi trucks.
vincen47 replied to James Maynard's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That’s a worthwhile project. Depending on how exact you’d like to be, I’d go a number of different ways. For the most accurate replacements, you could get genuine “oem” parts from the upcoming release of the 4070a Transtar that has been re-tooled and upgraded. Hopefully it’s released sometime this year. Rather than buy a whole kit, there will inevitably be people “parting out” the new kits. You also may be able to get the parts directly from Round 2. However, with needing several parts, and people pricing things the way they do, it might be cheaper to buy the whole kit. But, then you have parts left over, (you could sell them) and the same problem now with yet another kit. Of course, you could have just built the whole new kit in the first place. The simpler and more economical option would be to get another junk kit like an ertl transtar 4300 conventional that’s easy to come by, and use that for fairly close replacements. Of course you’d still be out of luck on the bottom grille portion. The only place I know you can get an assortment of individual parts straight from the box, is eBay. Prices vary. Otherwise, aftermarket replacements are the option. Check out Auslowe, AITM, and KFS, you should be able to find suitable parts like the wheels, marker lights, and horns. But again, in the end, it will probably be cheaper to get the new release. It may be easier to build it as a resto-mod and replace all of those parts with stuff from another kit, regardless of make or model. -

vincen47 replied to James Maynard's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Is there a specific truck you’re looking to upgrade? Or do you have one that has missing parts? There’s a good amount of aftermarket details out there, but no single source that has everything. My general go-to suppliers are moluminum.com, stsupply.com, auslowe.com.au, aitruckmodels.com, and kitformservices.com, along with random parts on eBay. If you are looking for something specific, we could probably point you in the right direction. -
Chevrolet Trucks built in Springfield Oh

How much of it is Navistar vs GM? I’m assuming the cab and hood is GM. The chassis/drivetrain/power is Navistar? -
I can’t speak for him, but I would contact this Shapeways seller and see if he’d be willing to drawn them up. I’ve purchased a few of his items in the past, and I’ve been pleased. There are other sellers on Shapeways that you could contact, too. I would look for ones that make 1/24 scale items for trucks. They often are willing to make items on request. I hope this helps. https://www.shapeways.com/shops/gmphnd
