  1. Having heard they were getting thin on the ground, I used my HL coupon to pick up a pickup: Derby Champions El Camino. Like I said, too bad it wasn't one of the discounted kits.
  2. Well, that was quick - went to Deerfield again today and the discounted kits were vacuumed up except for the Owens boat. I noticed the Edsel and '57 300 were back to their normal prices. May check Niles and Vernon Hills anyway just to be a good reporter.
  3. Nah, only the last half hour of it . Up here we got a lot of dark clouds, a bit of wind, a little bit of rain, and that was that; my brother in Libertyville got a lot more rain.
  4. Hmmm. Russell C's car has a pretty straight roof, and Jay's has a pretty straight body - too bad you couldn't combine the good parts . Looking forward to seeing the finished car! One thing that bugs me about the promo and the Revell 1/32 kit - too much overhang in the front edge of the roof, making the windshield too vertical; wonder if they used the same 1/10 master? Quickie photoshop of a fix; may be more trouble than it's worth: cut it atop the A-pillars, move it back about 3/32" or 1/8", and trim the excess.
  5. Another beautiful job - looking forward to the next one! How was the quality of the resin kit?
  6. Just found out from Flickr that I can't log into my account anymore, because I'm one of those Neanderthals still running XP. This is four months after I paid for unlimited service. Thanks loads.
  7. They do have it, along with the Gear Hustler '65 El Camino and the Polyglas Gasser II Catalina, but they weren't marked down.
  8. Just got back from Deerfield; here's what I spotted. $7.49: Plymouth Prowler, Mountain Goat, Edsel, IH Scout, '86 El Camino, '70 Monte Carlo, Honda CB77, '57 Chrysler 300, AMT 3-in-1 Boat. $6.99: Lindberg '59 Owens Cabin Cruiser $4.99: Revell Snap-Tite Mack Fire Engine Pumper I was really hoping for the Soap Box Derby El Camino; oh well. Didn't buy any kits but I got a Model Master Train Colors set marked down to $6.24 and some Excel #20 curved blades for 74ยข.
  9. Edit: Oops. Up until recently it was, then: Original issue Revell/AMT '56 Chrysler New Yorker.
  10. I like this, Al - it's one of those rare cars that needs very little modifying to make a sleek custom. Looks like the Mopar engine from the AMT 49 Mercury; how was the fit?
  11. Just to cover the bases - Oldest kit in my collection, period: Revell '57 Country Squire. My oldest surviving build: MPC 1/20th '69 AMX; I put it together in the early '70s (got the kit second-hand from a junior-high classmate; it was missing the lower rear pan). My first and last attempt at a fade paint job . I guess it survived because the odd scale made me less likely to part it out. Honorable mention: Monogram Cord and Duesenberg phaeton and Lindberg Mercedes SSK that my dad built in the mid-'60s.
  12. How did I miss this one? Loving it! I've had the same idea about using the Vicky body, or the Orange Krate to get the chopped top/opening doors in one fell swoop, or maybe the 5-window coupe, or, or, or...
  13. Fingers crossed on that!
  14. My favorite was The Beginning or the End, where the giant locusts begin their attack in the lovely mountain community of Ludlow, IL: The real Ludlow: Guess the locusts ate the mountains?
  15. Re the '59 Fury: Dismantled it last night and... total gluebomb underneath . Got the interior out to find a ton of cement was used on the glass; after an evening of grind grind grind etc. managed to salvage the windshield, but the rear window was already broken and glued along the C-pillar on the driver's side. Hope Okey has a replacement... Stripped off all the old BMF and sank it in the purple pond.
