Wouldn't ya know it - I passed on a builtup '64 El Camino at Model Empire's sale because the bumpers were damaged - and now the front's in stock. Oh well - got a set of '59 Imperial promo wheels anyway. Now to bookmark the tire site...

I have a friend up in Paradise named Larry Ladwig who was an old-time mechanic (worked with Andy Granatelli's Studebaker crew at Bonneville) and car detailer; he's in his late seventies now - still trying to find out if he got out OK.

Tie: Revell Dodge Charger SRT-8 and Shelby Cobra 427 S/C won at club raffles. Good kits I'm sure, just not the stuff I build.

I've always had the idea to use the Orange Crate body on the AMT Show 'n' Go chassis and use the stock body for something else; I take it door alignment is an issue with the Crate? Do the hinges work OK?

Motor Trend writer Michael Lamm got it right in 1975 when writing about future collectibles; he predicted that these winged wonders would be "tomorrow's Auburn Speedsters" and that folks would be building replicas of them.

Picked up interior paint for the '65 Nova project; Tom P. laid down a nice Artesian Turquoise paint job on the body last weekend and I'm going with a Fawn interior for contrast. Also got the correct dash on eBay: So now I can use the leftover '62 dash and interior for trading material.

One little problem the kit has is the wheel covers; they're a bit too small (the wheel rims shouldn't show as much) and thus are missing the 14 outer slots: Maybe the Imperial's covers can be cut down and mated to the Chrysler 300 units?

When I was at Model Empire yesterday, I noticed they still had a boxful of Styline front ends for the '57.

Needs another engine to fill the empty space between the first one and the cab.

Anyone else make it to Model Empire today for the annual sale? I went up with Tom Piagari today and we had a great time despite the heavy rain. Prices ranged from bargains to are you kidding (I've seen that built-up Aurora Meat Wagon ambulance at least twice at $89 - look forward to seeing it next year). A few (very) quick-and-dirty shots of what I picked up today: Happily not a gluebomb; hopefully the black paint is the kind that comes off easily. May be future trade or eBay material. Original issue (metal axles) Jo-Han '63 Plymouth; clean build minus one parking light (Tom has molds so we can cast them in clear resin). '64 Comet with convertible conversion started; so far so good. Not sure where the boot came from (Falcon vert?). I'll copy the sun visors from my '63. Very good '65 T-bird promo; give it a good cleaning, touch up the chrome, and done. Not bad for $5.00. Gluebomb time - '59 Bonneville: This old dog is complete (with wheels) but sadly beyond saving, since much of the body appears to have had glue brushed all over it . Saving grace is that the roof and rear glass are salvageable, so my convertible can become a hardtop. The rest can be parted out. Also went through their parts stash until my eyes shriveled, but got some useful bits like NOS '61 Comet, '61 Pontiac and '62-63 Chevy Nova taillight bezels, and last but not least an MCG photoetch set for the '57 Ford.

Fortunately, the one in the Modified Stocker kit is close to stock (needs molded hood pins removed, IIRC)

I'll throw in one picked nit - the little vertical grille bars should be angled back at the bottom, not nearly flush with the horizontal bars. That's a five-minute X-acto and Molotow fix, so... other than that, wow!

mmm, Skylark - Snake, do you think AMT got the track a bit narrow on that kit? The builtups I've seen always look like that to me.

My two oldest, stalled since late '70s and early '80s. '61 Falcon street machine: '62 Imperial. Bought the kit in '79 or '80, then bought the real car and started building the kit to look like it, including dull paint and the dent in the rear door from when the previous owner scraped her house trailer: Real thing:

Great job on the model and the dog dish hubcaps (literally; my uncle used a '52-'54 Ford hubcap as a dog dish ). You'd probably be able to sell a bunch if you cast them. (Sending PM re other stuff.)

Well, it's a start. I guess licensing a White wasn't as hard. I have one of the recent issues of this kit; the tank has a slight warp but it's fixable. Maybe find a 1/48 Allison engine and build it as the Jim Lytle/Tex Collins Bad Brahma Bull? (image from Hemmings Daily blog)

IIRC, the '57, '58 and '59 Ford Utes were all based on the '55 Ford body with Canadian Meteor grilles (thus getting the nickname "Star Fords").

You got lucky. Not everyone did: And what's in that ITC box looks even less like a 190 than the cover art!

Maybe they could reissue this set with "People of Walmart" figures?
