  1. Buying a Jo-Han '66 Chrysler convertible for 50 cents, building it, and reselling it for $9.00 (yes, this was in the '70s).
  2. Wonder how well the kart will fit in the current AMT '60 Chevy pickup? The original '63 Apache was a long bed; Round2 would have to retool the '60 bed and chassis to match it (fat chance! ).
  3. From most of what I've built so far - I'd bust out laughing.
  4. My all-time favorite 24 hours of LeMons livery:
  5. OK, that's only six... hundred... fifty...three... more to go.
  6. Decades ago I bought and built an original issue kit; I did a competent if uninspired job: The trim and emblems responded nicely to foiling, and the parts fit didn't give me fits. Only thing I'd modify now would be to cast those molded-in front parking lights and headlights in clear resin. This and the '62 are my favorite Mercs; would love to get a 1/1 someday.
  7. Terrific, Snake! What was your order number? Mine's 24963.
  8. Threw out a lowball Buy it Now offer and got a full set of chrome from the '65 Riviera kit: Love those sweet wire wheels; plus the slotted wheels are just the ticket for the Surf Woody to replace the incorrect pebble-finished ones in that kit.
  9. Hi Casey! I bit the bullet and picked one up a while back. As for that body issue, guess what? Yep - sectioned at the front just like all the 1/25 AMT Deuces. Now I really wonder if there was a stillborn 3-window in the Trophy Series... Art A. or Tim B. - any comment?
  10. "Goodness had nothing to do with it!" - Mae West
  11. ^^^ Or as I like to call it, the 1972 Fiero.
  12. "See you 'round, Billy!"
  13. Another I like is the Clenet Series I; it had pretty good long-nosed proportions plus it got a memorable workout in one of my favorite movies, S.O.B.:
  14. You are going to keep the ("all the Jag could see were my...") six taillights, right?
  15. Picked up the interior from the Foose FD-100 for the eventual mashup with the AMT '53 Ford pickup. Also got some original AMT '60 Pontiac wheelcovers in a trade here (thanks Wick!); I'll be molding and casting them up soon.
  16. I do like the earlier Blackhawks; if you wanted to build one you'd probably have to mashup the Renwal Stutz from the cowl back with the front clip from the Renwal Duesenberg. Chassis could be a stretched AMT Monte Carlo unit (close enough unless you have a gluebomb Grand Prix). And yep, they were popular with the celebs:
  17. Thanks Mike!
  18. Hmm. 1/20 scale... I wonder if the trailer could be adapted to the Lindberg Century Coronado? That's a 21-footer in 1/25 scale, which means it should be a hair over 10" long. You'd need smaller wheels and a double axle setup, but I have those parts from the Fireball 500 trailer. If anyone has this kit (old or new) could you please tell me the trailer's overall width? ETA: anyone else notice something odd about the box art... where's the skipper?
  19. I just wish I could get a bare body and glass from the Dodge to do a roof transplant on AMT's so-called '58 Plymouth.
  20. Here you go - the CA plates with correct font and stickers on the rear plate only:
  21. Wow! That's gotta include the '62 Chrysler and '62 Plymouth, right? Now to find the Lancer, Valiant and Imperial...
  22. It was a copy of the MPC promo body, originally produced by Doyusha for slot car use. Same with the others - copies of the AMT '65 Impala, '66 T-bird and '66 Buick, and the Jo-Han '66 Coupe deVille. Quality is OK for a curbside but the interior, chassis and wheelcovers were generic. I bought one of the Cadillacs back in the '80s along with a Jo-Han ambulance to detail it out, but sold them before I did so. IIRC there were some minor fit issues with the Jo-Han grille/bumper unit.
  23. Yes, the '64 and '65 coupes came as Craftsman (curbside) only. Always thought that was a bit strange. I have a '64 I modified with an opening hood, plus all the underhood pieces from a '64 wagon and a scratchbuilt radiator wall incorporating the screw posts to make it look like a real 3-in-1.
