Picked up the interior from the Foose FD-100 for the eventual mashup with the AMT '53 Ford pickup. Also got some original AMT '60 Pontiac wheelcovers in a trade here (thanks Wick!); I'll be molding and casting them up soon.

I do like the earlier Blackhawks; if you wanted to build one you'd probably have to mashup the Renwal Stutz from the cowl back with the front clip from the Renwal Duesenberg. Chassis could be a stretched AMT Monte Carlo unit (close enough unless you have a gluebomb Grand Prix). And yep, they were popular with the celebs:

Hmm. 1/20 scale... I wonder if the trailer could be adapted to the Lindberg Century Coronado? That's a 21-footer in 1/25 scale, which means it should be a hair over 10" long. You'd need smaller wheels and a double axle setup, but I have those parts from the Fireball 500 trailer. If anyone has this kit (old or new) could you please tell me the trailer's overall width? ETA: anyone else notice something odd about the box art... where's the skipper?

I just wish I could get a bare body and glass from the Dodge to do a roof transplant on AMT's so-called '58 Plymouth.

It was a copy of the MPC promo body, originally produced by Doyusha for slot car use. Same with the others - copies of the AMT '65 Impala, '66 T-bird and '66 Buick, and the Jo-Han '66 Coupe deVille. Quality is OK for a curbside but the interior, chassis and wheelcovers were generic. I bought one of the Cadillacs back in the '80s along with a Jo-Han ambulance to detail it out, but sold them before I did so. IIRC there were some minor fit issues with the Jo-Han grille/bumper unit.

Yes, the '64 and '65 coupes came as Craftsman (curbside) only. Always thought that was a bit strange. I have a '64 I modified with an opening hood, plus all the underhood pieces from a '64 wagon and a scratchbuilt radiator wall incorporating the screw posts to make it look like a real 3-in-1.

Sure is! By the way, I test-fitted the taillight panel on a '61 Ford body and it's about 1/4" too narrow, but I can split it in the middle and add the gas filler lid to take up the gap .

For me, the thing was I had a laundry list of stuff I was looking for, which they had none of. After that, it was all secondary stuff ('65 El Camino stock taillights and bezels, '64 Chevelle hood, Hubley '60 Ford wagon fender ornaments and a '51 Ford conversion kit) that at checkout went *poof* and left me with the mags. I also noticed they have '60 Caddy Fleetwood clear red taillights, but my kit still has its chrome ones (and frankly I'm not sure whether I want to keep it or trade it off anyway). Still need that '65 Olds hood but I guess I'll take a whack at casting it. ETA: And mega-thanks to Don and Carol for all their efforts - not only did I get a lot of great stuff from them over the last 20-odd years, but they inspired me to learn resin casting - and since then I've made a lot of useful bits for myself and others (mainly vintage wheelcovers).

Must have been because most of my order went out of stock as I was checking out. Just not that fast a shopper - or typist... But I did manage to get... one set of 13-inch Cragar mags. I'll put 'em on my '69 Corvair. Or maybe my '63 Comet. Or...?

Sad thing was, the next-generation '58 Continental Mark III was originally intended to have a much stronger resemblance to the Mark II : Instead we got the cross-eyed monster based on the full-size Lincoln, aka "the box the Mark II came in".

Probably because AMT turned their '65 fastback into an AWB quarter-miler early on and never changed it back. (At least they didn't make a Modified Stocker out of it! )

The Corvair Rampside is listed at $80.00 - no sale price mentioned. Does the discount show up on checkout?

From what I understand, some retooling was done on the body for this release, correct? If so, can anyone describe what's been done?

I'd say it's gotten to the point where it would be more logical to scan original Jo-Han kits, reverse engineer them, and run them through Shapeways than it would be to put any more effort into trying to find molds. Look at the can of worms Moebius got into for attempting to get the '59 Dodge mold - a whole lot of legal and logistical problems that were so tangled that they've never even been disclosed publicly, AFAIK.

And if you have trouble with that Photobucket link: (Seriously - I get a broken link here, and when I go to PB, the image appears for one second and goes back to the broken image symbol. It took several tries to get the screengrabs I needed to tile it together. Anyone else have this problem?)

Big difference being that you'd have to shell out lots of money and do some scratchbuilding to duplicate many of these cars!
