What did you see on the road today?
ChrisBcritter replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Going by the chrome rings in the taillight lenses, it's a '64 - the '63 had a chrome blade with a bullet like the full-size cars did. -
Back to the future
ChrisBcritter replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The photo of all the Deloreans reminds me of the "Back to the Pilot" episode of Family Guy: "Stop! We're from the future!" "Stop! We're from the further future!" "Stop! We're from the further, further future!" -
Would it be a good idea to cut patch panels from the kit glass to fit into those big openings? Might be less trouble than scratchbuilding them, plus the compound curves would match.

Wonder what's next from Round2 AMT ?
ChrisBcritter replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They've let bits of info out in the past on their site's "What's a hanger shot?" message thread: http://www.collectormodel.com/round2-models/2224-whats-a-hanger-shot/#comment-13806 The '64 F-85 Cutlass only exists as a convertible funny car body-wise but much of the original kit also survives. The molds, however, were tagged as rusted. Early '60s Ford pickups - gone.'62 Galaxie - gone.'59 Buick - gone.'61 Galaxie convertible - gone.'60 T-bird - gone.'68 Impala - gone.'63 Nova wagon - body/glass/grille/bumpers/taillights/stock wheelcover (one!) exist in the Boss Nova, with modifications; but unlike the Cutlass, the inserts for the chassis/interior/stock engine are gone.'71-'75 Impalas - inserts are gone. -
Right.

Correct! She might have made it as a teacher, if it wasn't for that darn nickname...
-
So here's a toughie. She's still around as of this moment, still working recently and has somehow missed being on this thread:

Made it through 36 out of 37 pages and... rats. Well, I'll post 'em anyway. Local girl (New Trier class of '59). Second cheerleader from the left: Performed "Heat Wave" in the variety show: And let's face it: the senior photo gives it away, since she was in her first movie only two years later. At least I hope you liked the photos.

Automotive (and other) toys from our childhood
ChrisBcritter replied to Harry P.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
And when she found out you did it... to quote Mark Twain: "Let us close the curtain of charity on the rest of the scene." -
When I'm at the library I'm usually working my way through Mark Twain's short story collection; somebody took it out so I'm now working my way through Ian Fleming's James Bond novels. And as I mentioned on the other book thread, I've read all of James Ellroy's books and now I'm waiting for the sequel to Perfidia.

Automotive (and other) toys from our childhood
ChrisBcritter replied to Harry P.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
A couple shots from my 4th birthday. The Eldon pickup is long gone, but I still have the Matchbox car carrier (and the two Danish Modern chairs). Perfect image of suburban 1964; freshly-permed mothers with cigarettes, bi-level carpeting, and a big picture window with somebody's '60 Olds wagon out front. -

Your mother must have been so proud. (And why didn't I think of that?) Re the candy cigarettes: Nobody's mentioned that if you blew them like a whistle, they'd expel a little puff of powdered sugar that looked like smoke. -
Very nice job, Tulio - best part is those resin tires will never melt your wheels.

1964 Cadillac 'Superior Coach' Ambulance
ChrisBcritter replied to crowe-t's topic in WIP: Model Cars
You've got a good start there. Looks like you'll need to shorten it through the front doors about 1/4"-5/16"? And look for a set of '66-'67 wheelcovers. -
Michael's Clearance, Selected Car Kits
ChrisBcritter replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Checked the Glenview, IL Michael's this evening - the $14.99 car kits were the Petty Dart, Dart Sport, '69 Chevelle convertible, Little Red Wagon, '60 Ranchero, and the Malco Gasser Mustang. -
I see what AMT did for the test wheel - they used the master for the outer wheel halves from the '27 T touring (though the spokes are flat on the outside for some reason) so they could use a tire they had available.

Kenneth Howard A.K.A. Von Dutch
ChrisBcritter replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This could be it: Full story: A photographer/photo collector friend of mine knew I was a car nut, and he gave me a batch of eight photos taken in L.A. in the 1940s of Cords and one Auburn speedster. Most were modified in some way, and this one has a '42 Cadillac front clip and maybe rear fenders ('41 Caddy trim on the hood). Whether it's actually the Von Dutch car, I don't know for sure - I sent copies of the photos to Rik Hoving but he didn't say if this was "the" Cordillac or not. Still, how many could there be? -
Phoro-etched screen source?
ChrisBcritter replied to MonoPed's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
An Australian eBay seller named "a-modeler" has Eduard photoetched mesh in many styles and the prices are reasonable, even with shipping from down under; I've bought a couple sheets from them. Here's the 4x4 hex pattern; there's also 6x6 (I believe the intended scale is 1/35): http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_ssn=a-modeler&hash=item3f5ebbb5cb%3Ag%3AYnEAAOSwoudW6I-u&item=272172299723&_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=eduard+mesh&LH_PrefLoc=2 -
Could you post a shot of the contents? I'd like to see how that Aqua Pearl plastic looks on the body. And for you modeling masochists, the roof from this car combined with a '65 Olds 88 body would give a good start on a '65 Starfire.

How About Some Stalled Projects?
ChrisBcritter replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Me three. When I started this '61 Falcon (a sloppy green builtup I got at an Old Town Escorts meet), it was intended to be a current-style street machine. Now it's a nostalgic '70s street machine. Mishmosh of Pinto, Mustang II and SC/Rambler bits in the interior and chassis; grille was modded with sections cut from a '62 Cutlass grille and '76 Eldo headlights. Four-lugs in the front, five-lugs in the back . I may rethink that SBF engine, or at least beef it up. Assembled with the miracle of masking tape: The spoiler does need to be finessed a bit... -
Thanks for posting that photo - I have a vacuformed uptop I picked up on eBay recently that was supposed to be for a '59 Chevy; doesn't quite fit my '59 Bonneville but it looks like a match for yours. Now to see if it will fit my '62 Impala...

Got tires and some extra stock bits from the IMC VW - thanks Vince and Brad - and started to Frankenstein the VW rims with the Hubley Renault hubs for the Dauphine project; just in time as I just finished the mods to the curbside chassis. Wonder how much more work I'll have to do before Ebbro brings out a full-detail Dauphine?

Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
ChrisBcritter replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This Ranchero kit must have been a big seller for AMT, the way these originals keep turning up - did they keep it in production longer than usual, like they did with the '60 El Camino? Did the Styline version come out at the same time, or later?
