  1. 1960 El Camino, thereby saving the sanity of anyone trying to make the old AMT kit look good Stock parts (including seat and door panels, this time) for the '40 Ford pickup, and while you're at it PLEASE finesse the fit of the body/fenders/hood/doors so we don't have to perform surgery to make them all line up Lincoln Zephyr coupe based on the Continental tool (I'd even suggest a '48 Continental to put that Pyro abortion out of its misery once and for all, but the ship has probably sailed on interest in that one) 1959 Ranchero based on the Skyliner tool And finally, correct wheelcovers for the '58 T-bird.
  2. Gotta give that one a prize for "Most Creative Location of a Fake Continental Kit"...
  3. AMT '63 Nova wagon, followed closely by the AMT '57 Ford.
  4. I remember the IMC buggy as being a pretty good kit; the one I had came with three back tires and one front, plus I dropped it and broke a rear axle so I never finished it. I recall trying to kitbash the remains with the old Pyro 1/20 VW to make a Baja Bug. (Might still be a workable idea if Pyro VWs weren't so rare now.) I still have the surfboard.
  5. The Corvair got here this afternoon in perfect shape - the seller wrapped it like it was a Ming vase. Not much glue used; six antenna/mirror/spotlight holes to fill, and that's about it. Looks like an easy restoration!
  6. First I dismantle it, strip off the old paint and start repairing the body damage, then polish the scratches out of the glass, scour my parts stash, eBay and the Wanted! forum page for missing bits...
  7. Any James Ellroy fans here? Being a fan of L.A. noir, I got into his books after reading My Dark Places, his autobiography/investigation into his mother's 1958 murder, after I discovered that the events happened near where I lived - in fact, I'd driven past the scene of the crime in El Monte many times. Then I found out my boss's mother had worked with Ellroy's mother at Packard Bell in the mid-'50s, so I really got into reading all his works (just wish I'd read the L.A. trilogy in the correct order). After I ran out of Ellroy books (now I'm waiting for the sequel to Perfidia) I dug around for books I'd seen as movies to see what their full stories were like; thoroughly enjoyed The Caine Mutiny and Thomas Berger's Little Big Man and The Return of Little Big Man. Now for a change of pace, I'm going through the collected short stories of Mark Twain.
  8. Or any vintage before quad headlights. The modeling masochist in me is already thinking about how to kitbash this thing starting with a Monogram '36 Ford convertible and a Pyro Auburn...
  9. The tires shouldn't be too hard; they were a '61-'62 only item but they do show up on eBay fairly often. I might have an extra if you need it. I like those front bumperettes; I have a set I'm using as custom grille bars on my chopped '49 Ford.
  10. More: The one on the right, a '57 Ford chassis, plus the roof from this mess: ...are at this point: Right now I'm piecing together a SOHC 427 for it. This is what's left of the hardtop; it was even worse than it looked once I got all the paint off:
  11. I've posted them on various threads before, but...
  12. From IMCDb, as it appeared on the show: And around the same time, it was Peter Fonda's ride in Tammy and the Doctor: The patina when it played Wally's car was probably washable.
  13. Hand to God, about 35 years ago here in Illinois I saw a Renault with Massachusetts plates - the factory decal graphic on the side was altered to read "Le Ca".
  14. GOTCHA!!! AMT Craftsman '64 Corvair Monza. FOUR times it's been on eBay with no takers and the price finally came down to the point where I had to bid - and I was still the only bidder. Considering the condition, not a bargain but not too bad. Now I have a good excuse to list my IMC STP Lotus Indy car to make up for it. (I expect Round2 will announce the discovery of the molds for the Corvair in the next 15 minutes or so, shortly before Moebius announces an all-new kit. )
  15. Sorry - I was a little unclear on the concept: So I'll say the original Aussie rocker:
  16. Two-way tie: 2 '77 Cadillac Coupe deVilles (one coupe, one convertible conversion). ETA: '92 Ford F-150 pickup promo. The '77 Caddies are still the latest year kits I've built for myself. I did build an '80s Tamiya Mercedes 500 SEC Lorinser once for a friend.
  17. Reminds me of a certain '62 Dodge four-door hardtop...
  18. Agreed - I'd just as soon screw it up myself.
  19. First time I've seen a tree being partially chromed like that.
  20. Good going! I got distracted with a big airplane photo project last night and missed one of the best '61 Tempest sedans I've seen in a while - sold for 32 lousy bucks. Got one other grail I'm looking at right now - price is somewhat high (for me) but it's been reduced after being posted up three times with no bids. Ending on Sunday...
  21. Oh you lucky dog! You may need a foot of styrene rod to fill in those mirror, antenna, and spotlight mounting holes, and there will be hours of amusement removing louvers and fins, but at least the builder didn't slather paint all over them. You'll have some really choice cars when you're done! How about some build threads on the restorations?
  22. Cool - did anyone else get photos of the stock class? Wish I could have gone.
  23. Klever kollectors koncur that it's not kwite a komprehensive kompendium of Ala Kart, klearly.
  24. I'm still trying to figure out how this happened: http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMT-1-25-1968-FORD-MUSTANG-SHELBY-GT-500-428-ENGINE-AND-RELATED-PARTS-/301913421612?hash=item464b71372c%3Ag%3Ar1AAAOSwzvlW-zUU&nma=true&si=MY1zxLWW6WoqAJ6JTDGeoTLHVi0%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  25. That sent me down to dig through my stack of old Rod & Custom magazines:
