  1. Wow your dolly and steer car is looking great
  2. Thanks Rider ! I've been puttering w this for a couple days
  3. Finally in last primer coat..a quick wet sand w 600 grit for a super smooth finish , wash down and dry in the sun.. Well, I only had one option for black base in rattle can..good ole TS -14..even I cant screw this stuff up lol. Okay...seems I cant upload pics of the black painted body...arggg. figures. Heres the blue then Heading over to HL for clear , then itll be ready for decals.
  4. Chatting with dr Kerry and folks about the look we decided the roof wasnt " flowing " right. I added several fillet samples to the bottom till we all liked it..then started body work. The winner was this fillet .. now to address that horrible under hang where the windshield frame meets the top..I'm trying Bondo glazing putty for better build than the thin tamiya stuff. I was warned about the possibility of shrinkage , so each layer was allowed a few days to dry . Each was sealed w Dupli sanding primer . My buddy mentioned I should use a black base under the Nassau Blue for more depth..so I sprayed a test on the hood..I was very impressed. Spoon tests w white left the color too silver for me..the dark base was perfect. Thanks for following along...let's head to paint !!!
  5. Yeah the title is right...I'm building a "car " gm never did. I found a pic showing a 70 442 converted into an el camino style body...I HAD to build one..Mines gonna be GM Nassau blue metallic keeping with the 72 timeline when this car could've been built. Thanks Tom for the suggestion! The 442 white stripes should really set it off. I had a couple 72 cutty convertible bodies, and chatting w guys in our model group was told the 68 elco roof and bed would fit the cutlass with minor work..well sorta lol. Proportionally they were similar..I'll fix the rest. Heres where the fun started.. Off with its top !!! I needed the hardtop roof and bed from the elco...so out came the pencil and dremel and the bed after roughing in More to come !!
  6. Lol yeah its definitely like driving a brick , Thanks everyone for the feedback
  7. Thanks everyone!! I certainly enjoyed the build and dirtying it up really makes the details pop..now back to the glossy stuff lol
  8. Seems like the most interesting projects have always started on a napkin sketch lol heard years ago designers at GM or Chrysler doodled ideas while at lunch but after tossing napkin in trash someone collected it and used idea later Sounds like my co workers lol
  9. Checked out the Boeing steer car, the site mentioned 2 newer models use electric motor for power steering but the older variants used only driver power they call the " armstrong " method to steer them !! One video I emailed ya actually shows the amount of turning input the driver is doing on curves !! Cool stuff
  10. Looking good Kerry that's an interesting project for sure !! I actually watched a few videos w daughter of the steer cars in action. Definitely looking forward to this developing
  11. thanks for following along during the build ! I definitely enjoyed the build and still amazed about the amount of detail they crammed into the kit
  12. Simply speechless how amazing this turned out !
  13. Officially calling this done !! My idea for trailers load didnt pan out so its rolling empty likely off awaiting its next mission, which makes sense with the raised tag axle ! I'll add pics tonite, first set came out too dark
  14. Gary wallace has steerable lift axles or non steerable ones available. He doesn't have a website, you'll need to email him for info. gwtrucks@yahoo.com
  15. I'm currently measuring and photographing a packer body from the local waste management , plan was mount the scratchbuilt packer onto the reissued Autocar . Cant wait to see what ya come up with , always thought these would make an interesting project
  16. Jamie at moluminum has lowboy air ride suspension sets in stock for a modern trailer. The rest can be bashed from the listings that jim b provided .
  17. Just a thought ...looking at gears found in older electronics devices yield tons of useful gears I'm sure could be re purposed into a wrecker. Heck an old VCR that I " dropped " had plenty of goodies inside ..kids wind up toys too
  18. I spoke w KJ a few weeks ago at the ATHS truck show, just before he got married..congratulations..and mentioned he was moving soon. Definitely hope he gets settled in and starts casting again
  19. Thanks for showing these ! Sounds like your very pleased w the quality of work. Doug was a vendor in Fulton NY a few yrs back, his rims were very popular . He also was showing a turned aluminum chemical trailer he was selling..my buddy actually let him use his prized Brockway to pull it..absolutely perfect combo
  20. Stunning Your build inspired me to purchase the GMC Crackerbox from Dave, these older cab overs really strike me
