  1. Ford sold Cortinas and other Britsh Fords in Canada until 1973, though I remember the constant gripes about Cortina quality. Likewise, GM did a healthy trade in Vauxhalls until about the same time. I don't know why they didn't sell a few on the other side of the 49th while they were at it.
  2. SNake suggested I post this one here too. A nice reminder that beautiful cars are still being made.
  3. Liindberg did a 1/32 kit of the disc wheel version that's surprisingly good.
  4. Funny thing is, the Taunus was a car that Ford had already for the American market, but they changed their minds. Otherwise, Ford would have had a FWD compact on the market here in the early '60s, before the Japanese invasion really started to ramp up. Ah well, hindsight is 20/20.
  5. Maybe not, but this looks like just the sort of thing the Japanese companies like to do, and I still maintain that "Is it sexy?" is a far better criteria for deciding what kits to do than "Did my dad have one?"
  6. I like this a lot. It references the original P72 without being a slavish copy of it. This is how you do retro.
  7. On another forum, the trivia contest had a running gag that the first clue was almost always a bicycle manufacturer, because that described half the carmakers that ever were. And remembering how the British Daimler company evolved, now you have me pondering XK powered Gullwings built with other components from the Jaguar parts bin, or E types built with Mercedes quality.
  8. I think Okey Spaulding ended up with them, but there were pieces missing. I don't know what happened to them after that.
  9. I usually just hit "home", and browse the topics I'm interested in.
  10. I could, but I know some people get cranky when you put in too many picture links.
  11. I think it's pretty safe to say that these aren't coming back, and that really is a shame.
  12. That's the prototype for the Lamborghini GT350. Here's the production version.
  13. I could never get into the first gen Camaros. They aren't ugly, just kind of nondescript. The next generation is when they really started to shine.
  14. GM didn't just borrow names from the Italians. You can see the Lusso influence in the 2nd Gen Camaro, which is by far the best looking Camaro.
  15. The '60s were a good decade for styling, though when it comes to American cars, GM's were easily the best of the bunch. Bill Mitchell had an eye for line and proportion that was matched by few. A tough choice, but if I had to pick one from that time. I think it would be had to go wrong with the '65 Riviera.
  16. Many years ago, Automobile Quarterly featured this 1931 Packard with the title "The Most Beautiful Car We've Ever Seen", and I find it hard to contradict them. That Miura is a beauty, to be sure.
  17. I was in Edmonton last weekend, so I checked out the Alberta Aviation Museum. I picked up these two from the gift shop.
  18. That's the thing. The annuals had pretty much zero interest for me at the time. I didn't see the point of modeling someting I could see on any street corner, and the simplified construction was really boring to put together. It was usualy the classic kits, or I'd build the stack version of the "hot rod" kits. like the Model A, or '36 Ford.
  19. I'm okay with encouraging people to type out comments, though this has got me thinking I should use more of those tags to ensure that people looking for a particular topic. Though I'm not sure a week time limit on edits is a good idea, especially on build threads that can go for months, or even years.
  20. Maybe, but then people will be worrying about not getting enough thumbs up.
  21. I guess I was a weird kid. I liked building stock more than I did the custom, though I'll still do the occaissional hot rod. Stock builds and well done traditional builds are what usually get my attention. Someone does a stock classic car build in On the Workbench, and I will follow. Same with Under Glass. All the muscle cars tend to blur together. As for comments, if it's something really exceptional, I'll say something, but otherwise, I tend to be quiet.
  22. You're not the only one, though the Jo-han kit is pretty nice for the standards of the time.
  23. Anyway, before this gets too far off the track, clearly you get where I'm coming from.
