  1. Kudos to he people who either through good luck, or good life choices are able to spend that kind of dosh on their hobbies. Good for them. I just received a MCG grille that set me back $24.50 US all together, so I get what it costs for parts. I'm even fine with how the market is playing out, because while everyone else is chasing promo kits of generic '60s intermediates, they're ignoring the kits that I want. I'm looking at that thousand dollar Coronet, and then at the mint early issue Jo-han Cadillacs I was able to pick up for a song, and there's no doubt in my mind who made the better choice. I'm not angry at the people throwing money at that Coronet. I'm laughing at them.
  2. Me, the research is probably my favourite part, and in these days when you have almost the whole of human knowledge at your fingertips. Far from inhibiting imagination, I find it often takes me in directions I hadn't thought of, like the screaming red V-16 Cadillac I've been working on. When you do some digging, it becomes pretty obvious that they way they did things in the past isn't as cut and dried as some might think. For me, the fun is in recreating a vanished piece of the past. Having said that, there are limits. There are always going to be variations and inaccuracies in colour eproduction, so I'm generally happy with a bottle of paint that's close to what I want. Scratchbuilding is fun, but sometimes you want a model that will go together without a fight.
  3. Any word if it will have any of the stock parts or the roadster body from the Double T kit?
  4. I'm very much in the "buy it sealed" camp, because, if anything, I've been burned by the "kit appears complete" claim. Mind you, the stuff I've bid on has been pricey enough to justify the the rewrapping scam.
  5. And in this case, they weren't wrong.
  6. Good to hear. I couldn't see them not bringing it back.
  7. Looks good. Gotta love these old '50s racers.
  8. There was a time when this board didn't turn hostile? I must have missed it.
  9. Whatever makes you happy. Personally, of all the things I'd drop four figures on, that wouldn't be it. I'm not even sure I'd pay retail price for it.
  10. Nicely done, and I still think this is the best looking of the 'birds.
  11. I can't find a photo of the model, but here's the real engine. EDIT: Here we go:
  12. It looked familiar, but the colour threw me off. It's the engine from the MPC Toyota 2000GT
  13. Outstanding!
  14. I have a bunch of those terribly unfashionable billet wheels and other parts. I'm looking at what's left of the Revell custom '48 Ford I scavenged for traditional parts, and I'm thinking that building it '80s style could be fun.
  15. Exactly. This stuff has never been a deal breaker before.
  16. If you've spent any amount of time building AMT kits, you should be used to chucking ugly custom parts by now.
  17. Definitely getting the '53 Ford when it hits the shelves. Now if any of the Round2 staff happen to be reading, Nothing says Coca-Cola like a '32 Ford roadster. Just saying.
  18. Round2 is not so much in the model business as the nostalgia business, but if the Coke theme is an excuse to bring back some old favorites, I'm perfectly fine with this. Worst case scenario, you end up with a bunch of die cast Coke machines. You'll figure something out.
  19. The Vintage Sports Car Club of America having fun with old cars.
  20. Yes, it looks like it could be fiddly, but I can live with fiddly if it gets the desired result.
  21. Because world weary indifference is how you show how sophisticated you are, I guess. If the instructions are any indication, it looks like a much nicer kit than the Double T version. The only thing I can think of is that maybe people are put off by the '70s style mods, but as the realtors say, it has good bones. I see a great starting point for anything from vintage racer to track roadster to Fad-T, depending on what's in your parts box. I have a project in mind for the body, but I've been trying to convert the stock 25 T into a Mercury speedster, and I'm thinking this might make a better donor chassis.
  22. You do know you don't have to use the decals, right? Unless they actually engraved "Coca-Cola" onto the body, I don't see a problem.
  23. On paper, it looks great, and they've been teasing us with a mid engine Corvette for decades. If the initial orders are any indication, it looks like GM has a winner. Of course, it will be interesting to see what it's like when someone actually drives it.
