I think white walls work best with a dark wheel. Generally, I think a chrome wheel looks best with blackwalls.

I think the Corvette 4 rotor Wankel was actually a couple of 2 rotor units stuck end to end, with the driveshaft coming out the middle.

I guess we just have a thing for magnificent failures. -
Blower Bentley reborn.
Richard Bartrop replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Apparently they're going to take apart one of the originals, scan all the parts, and use that info to build their replicas. I imagine all that digital info would be very useful for anyone contemplating a new Blower Bentley kit. -
And on the subject of delicate sensibilities, why does it matter in the least if someone does get an "attaboy" for a less than perfect model? Ironically, it's usually the people who complain the most about "PC Culture" and being "easily offended" who are the mostly likely to get their noses out of joint when they see someone else getting the attention they thing they deserve. There was another model forum where a constant them was how much this one modeler was being showered with attention, and how much they hated it. Yes, building for competition means building to a standard. It's about doing your best, and even your best may not be good enough. Someone wins, everyone else loses, and if you can't handle that, then you should probably stay home. But of course, this isn't a competition. This is a bunch of people sharing a common interest. When someone builds, it is first and foremost for their enjoyment. It is their model, their time, and it is entirely their decision what to do with it, and how much, or how little effort they want to put into it. Someone brought up golf. For most people, it's a pleasant way to kill an afternoon. Not everyone has the ability, or the desire to do the PGA tour, and that's just fine.

Blower Bentley reborn.

Though the fact that the factory is getting into the game is a new twist. -
Got a Bentley itch that even the Airfix kit won't scratch? Bentley's getting into the recreation game with a new series of replica 1929 4.5 Litre "Blower" models. https://www.bentleymedia.com/en/newsitem/985-bentleys-iconic-1929-team-blower-to-be-reborn-with-12-strong-continuation-series

As always, there are degrees on these things. I think if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything is probably still a good rule of thumb. If people really want help, they'll ask for it. On the other hand, the people saying that their soul gets destroyed by a lack of comments, there could be any number of reasons for that have nothing to do with hating you, or your model. Basing your self worth on the number of comments (or likes, or whatever) is the way to madness. Not something I've seen a lot here, but on other forums, someone will say that they are upset when too many people post exceptional work because it makes them feel inadequate about their own work. I'm pretty sure the forum rules prevent me from saying what I think of that notion. There are some outright masterpieces on this forum, and it would be dark times indeed if people thought they should stop out of concern for their precious self worth.

The Perfect Deuce
Richard Bartrop replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very nice, though if I had to have my favourite Deuce, it would be this one I snapped at the World of Wheels a few years back. -
Because the scale on the box isn't always the scale in the box. I compared a flathead block from an Monogram Early Iron '36 Ford with one from a Revell '48 Ford Custom Coupe, and they're just about identical in size. The Revell '48 has some vintage speed equipment, and it's one of the nicer scale flatheads to boot.

1/24 scale late 40s rims
Richard Bartrop replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Revell's excellent '40 Ford is listed as a 1/25, but when I took a ruler to it, it works out to 1/24, and chassis parts on the '48 are interchangeable with the '40. Both have some really nice wheels. and the custom '48 has some very nice extra hubcaps. -
how far we've come
Richard Bartrop replied to randyc's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
IRemember the days when if you wanted to put a metallic finish on something, your options were a bottle of Testors silver, kit chrome, and that's it? When they came out with Steel, I was so happy. As far as tools and materials go, this is the golden age of modelling. Calgary is still blessed with a number of hobby stores, but it there's anything I miss about the '70s is when every drugstore and knick knack shop had a stack of model kits, mostly because of the oddball stuff you could run across. I discovered Jo-han classics, Pyro Vintage Brass, and even a Renwal Revival, just by keeping my eyes open. -

Richard Bartrop replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm thinking maybe a customized Cobra, or maybe some fiberglass special?
