1955 Bel Air
Perspect Scale Modelworks replied to Perspect Scale Modelworks's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I settled on a pretty simple design for the door panels. I cut a horizontal line on the panel and added a strip of 26 gauge wire, cut a hole for the speaker and added thicker gauge wire along the bottom edge. Kind of hard to see the flocking in the second picture. I was going to insert a parts box speaker but decided to go with a scratch built design using wire and fabric from an old Nike shirt instead. I'll add an armrest made from quarter round stock and PE window switches. It's painted DupliColor white primer which I'll use for the seats too. Thanks and let me know what you think. -
Can't wait to see this done. I'm a huge fan of the show. Fights, car chases & all of Jim's conniving, most of which would be hard to pull off today with cell phones and the internet. Get that thing weathered.

Some work on the door panels. Still trying to decide on a design for the doors. I want to keep it simple and clean but not too plain. -

Thanks again everyone. i appreciate the kind words. Good question and one I really don't have an answer for. I don't mind having a part number or manufacturer stamp on it I guess. -

Show us your Engines - Post Dedicated to the Engine
Perspect Scale Modelworks replied to TheCat's topic in Model Cars
Wow, some really cool engines posted here. Here's an AMT 2004 Pontiac GTO LS2 I'm putting into a '55 Chevy Bel Air. The car will be pink and white hence the pink covers and white plenum. -
Not currently. I had a 1988 300TE wagon for about 7 years until I sold it last year. It was a great car for it's age. Got me hooked on the brand. I now drive a W210 '96 E320, W208 2001 CLK430 (wife's), W163 2002 ML500 (daughter's) which replaced her W202 1999 C280 that was totaled and another daughter recently traded her 96 C280 for a beemer. Obviously I'm a little Benz crazy but I just love them. For older cars they're still comfortable, fast, safe and IMHO look good. I usually DIY any issues that come up. Part of my current job is driving late model cars mostly American and Asian brands. At the end of each day I feel like none of those newer cars come close to the level of comfort and responsiveness of my old Mercs. A lot of people think MB's are expensive to maintain but if you're handy with a wrench and know where to get parts, they're no more expensive than any other used car. They say "The best or nothing". Even if it's a beater, it's the best beater.

That's really cool. I've been thinking of doing a 1:1 for some time now but maybe I'll start with a scale one first. Great job! -
Very cool '55 and beautiful paint job. I'm working on a convertible right now. By the way, how's that W124 running?

Thanks! I used Rustoleum Grey Primer Sealer, several coats of Krylon Fusion Red, which goes on really smooth and a few coats of Rustoleum Crystal Clear enamel. Then rubbed with Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and finished with Meguiar's Gold Class Clear Coat wax.I wasn't happy with the Rustoleum clear. The way the nozzle is designed it would leave speckles on the areas that were sprayed as I moved to the next area. That's why I had to rub it out a few times with the compound to get it nearly smooth. -
