What non-auto model did you get today?
tbill replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Picked this up the other day, it’s almost big enough to work as a flat bed load for one of my tractor trailer builds. -
As I’m working on my garage dio, I’ve decided I need a ‘lot’ to put it on. My dilemma now is how to replicate pavement/ black top. I had thought of either black sandpaper, or rubberized undercoat ( not sure how that would work out), what else is out there? I’ll be using plywood as the base if that makes a difference for any other products you may recommend. thanks, tom

Looks great from here! Nice build.

So, I picked up some paint today that I think will be suitable for the floor color, and a few more ideas popped into my head on what to do around the outside of the building , so even though no tangible progress, the wheels are spinning....

Picked these up at a show yesterday, the bags have big rig tires in them and the blue packages are air cleaners

I'm a fan of trucks but...
tbill replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I hate to say it, but ‘we’ are long in the tooth , so to speak. Most of us are from the age of cars that had personality, curves, chrome , flowing lines, and downright pleasing to the eye designs, the ‘new’ generation treats the automobile as an appliance, they could care less how it looks, as long as it gets from A to B and has cell phone connectivity........., sad but true..... -
Great kit, only thing I didn’t like about it was the mold line across the curve of the ‘boot’ lid

I have a set of clamping tweezers, I grab a corner of the decal and soak, after a minute or two, I remove decal from water, while unclamping tweezers, I see if the decal is separating from paper, if so, I move decal enough to reclamp on the backing , then use a toothpick to set decal. I do this with my window registration and inspection decals.

Pace Peacekeeper 24-Inch Mini-Plus? Any good?
tbill replied to crowe-t's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
None of them control dust, they are just a means of getting fumes removed from your work space. -
Funny thing is, I really want to build a truck stop diorama, but I'd have to add on to the house......

Nice work, that color combo is fantastic!

What a beautiful save/rebuild!

I often watch the show ‘ancient aliens’, while I don’t go all in for a lot of it, it does get one to think. One must also open your mind to ‘visitors’ when you look at ancient civilizations, and the sudden disappearance of some of them, the incredible construction of some of them, and the lack of documentation on how they were built. I’ll be the first to admit I’m an idiot, but it seems like whatever happened in or around Roswell led to a techno boom of sorts, seems a lot of ‘new’ tech came out shortly after. I’d offer more of my opinions, but they run afoul of the message boards rules . in short, keep an open mind, we are but a speck in the grand scheme, and humanity is but a newborn in the universe.....

I don’t have the space either, but the mood struck, when it’s done, I’ll figure out where to put it, haha! I’ve found room to display/store 16 rigs with trailers, and tons of cars, hopefully it’ll work out in the end........, fingers crossed......., hehe...

Thank you. Ya, the flake is a bit big, but it is what it is, and it doesn’t really jump out in person like it does in pics ( cause pics hide nothing, lol). the decals on the windshield are something I bought from a vendor at a local car show, when I don’t use ‘period correct’ NY plates on a car, I use the windshield decals. As to the chrome paint, only places I used any was to touch up the spots where the bumpers came off the parts tree, and that’s the molotow pen. Other than that, anything chrome or near chrome that wasn’t kit supplied is BMF or testors aluminum plate metalizer that’s been buffed ( the exhaust for example). thanks again for the positive comments guys.

Chevy Engine Red/Chevy Engine Orange
tbill replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
About 15 minutes after they ran out of orange would be my guess...... sorry, been working for GM dealerships for 30 years, and they do some crazy stuff with seemingly no rhyme or reason. -
Kits Missing in Action - GM Muscle Era Intermediates Edition
tbill replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Luckily, some of the MIA vehicles can be had with a little kit bashing, but it would be nice to have kits of a lot of those mentioned. -
I got one from model roundup and one from a local swap meet.

Ya, not so much.....
