  1. It did. I managed to get the 2 clear plastic (vinyl?) fuel lines and the plug leads to stay in place with a bit too much polystyrene cement - and I got the flimsy chrome body supports to do what they were supposed to - but sadly it all began to come apart after a while. I was in my early 'teens but this model / this car above all others is pretty dear to me. I painted the grill flat black inside the orange shell 'cos I hated the transfer (decal) that was supposed to go there. Mine had no transfers in fact.
  2. Well you live and learn. The fastback version is quite hideous to my eyes!
  3. Wow! That chilling yet compassionate sneer of an Elf who knows her arrows will fly true. Love it!
  4. Yes I've had that dream a few times too. Also, going back a few years, dreaming I was waking up next to my partner who had recently walked out the door for good. Then waking up for real. Ouch!
  5. I have a recurring dream about finding myself at a station north of the centre of London, catching a stopping train then walking down through the City on my way home in South London. I began to get these maybe 12 years after I moved from South London to South Wales. But I do enjoy these dreams, sort of like revisiting an earlier part of my life. I have another one that our house has a load of extra rooms, and the gardens are huge, with hitherto unknown lawns and shrubs. A third one I have had a few times is all about being in a large semi-derelict institution. Sometimes I go right into the basement and emerge on a railway station platform - which then fits into the beginning of the first dream I mentioned. None of these are bad dreams but sometimes I fell a sense of loss when I wake up and none of it was true, especially with the second dream. I have had the flying dream too, sometimes it seems so real I think 'This time it really is happening' - but it never is!
  6. Glad to hear a respected opinion from the other side! I do agree on the Midget, my sister had a red early one that was actually good fun despite my other probably irrational prejudice against MGs. We did however refer to it as the 'worlds fastest ashtray' on account of the number of fag butts it collected when they were flicked out of other much taller vehicles!
  7. If you're over 5 foot eight forget it. They were utterly dreadful in every respect. Unless you enjoy driving whilst holding your breath for the next thing to go wrong. And why make a road car so low? Well said, Snake.
  8. Great watercolour, thanks!
  9. Complete with those insane/gorgeous Cromadora wheels!
  10. I like it, nice to see a deep space cruiser in the sunshine!
  11. No need for a trailer to tow this beauty - just chuck the slicks in the back, drive to the strip with a few friends / family, and go racing! Very evocative.
  12. I knew it was a Fiat based design by one of the 'Etceterini' car makers so prevalent in Italy around that time, but that's as far as I got. Good one!
  13. 'Open the pod bay doors Hal' 'I'm sorry Dave I can't do that'...
  14. Here's a man who had no time for self-driving cars, I wouldn't like to speculate on how much TP he got through... And testosterone was not in short supply here!
  15. Sorry Kurt - but I'd already identified the car as a 541R in this thread so the cat was already out of the bag!
  16. Jensen 541R 4 litre straight 6, 125mph fibreglass 2+2 coupe. Leather seats, good radio, overdrive. Steel chassis, fibreglass skin.
  17. It worked rather well. A lot of the people involved had been building tractors all their working lives so it was over-engineered (and on a budget) and did the job well. It did make the FF a fair bit slower than the 2wd Interceptor due to weight and power loss through the drivetrain but it could hook up with the tarmac and come out of a bend faster than most.
  18. He did a great job. Dad had two 541Rs that he used to commute long distance in. They were fabulous, quicker than everything else you were likely to meet. One of them was this colour:
  19. Yes there are 4 giveaways - the additional 5 inches in the length of the front end, the revised grille area, the scoop on the bonnet / hood and of course the twin vents behind the front wheels. Cheers, -Don.
  20. I had a Skype interview a few days back for a new contract - the next stage was to be a face-to-face. I just had an email from my agency to say that I've got through to the next stage but due to Corona virus this will also be a Skype call instead. It's a very fine line between sensible caution and over-reaction / panic. Not sure what category this falls into!
  21. I just heard the Australian Grand Prix due to be held this weekend has been cancelled: 'A statement issued jointly by F1, governing body the FIA and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation read: "Following the confirmation that a member of the McLaren Racing Team has tested positive for COVID-19 and the team’s decision to withdraw from the Australian Grand Prix, Formula 1 and the FIA convened a meeting of the other nine team principals on Thursday evening. Those discussions concluded with a majority view of the teams that the race should not go ahead. "Formula 1 and the FIA, with the full support of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) have therefore taken the decision that all Formula 1 activity for the Australian Grand Prix are cancelled.' Quote from the official F1 website.
  22. When I was hiking in India years ago I tried to wash my hands where and when I could, and used to wonder how clean the water was and who'd last used the tap. I went down with amoebic dysentery anyway! Still, what you say makes sense, Ron.
  23. This is because one of the team members has tested positive for the virus, it's to protect other participants. It's the right thing to do but still gutting for them.
  24. Big Al II gets me every time! Spike is right, great set of pictures. Thanks.
  25. Still not convinced that speed humps are the answer, my point re. emergency services remains valid - and speed humps don't tackle drug abuse! Sounds like you need more active and intelligent policing, just like most communities in the UK!
