Thanks Dan! Dude I don't know how I missed it with you having the Covid. Hope everything is going back to normal with you. There's a guy here in my shop that had it and he's been having all kinds of complications ever since. He just can't seem to get back to where he was before he caught it and that's been two months ago. Thanks Mike. I never really went away. I would just build another side project in the meantime till I figured this part out. I built a VW Bug in Wermacht dress out over in the All The Rest Section here. Rich! Always good to have you along man and thanks. You'll have to let me know when you tackle your DD build. I'd love to follow that one. -

'Preciate the good word Tim. I just wish I had some of the tools that you and a few others are using. I'd be spinning my own wheels and other parts up. All that stuff you guys do to your builds is definitely a level up. -

Thanks Roger. It's good to have some forward progress on it for sure. Sorry for the long absence again fellas. Even though I haven't been too active on forums I have indeed been at the bench. One weeks worth of fitting and scrapping 3....or is it 4?? fabricated inner fenderwells now and I've finally got it. I got the idea to put the base engine in the bay and it changed the whole complexion of things......ALOT. With the engine in place I get to see what's gonna work....and what aint. So with all that stuff being said I had to approach this with a whole new mindset and put an inner fender well in place with no V cut outs for the shock tower for added rigidity once fitted into place. Then I cut the shock tower from the original inner fenderwell and thinned it down enough to clear the rocker covers. This....is gonna work. After more than 6 hours at the bench enduring trial and error...I think I've got it.... Modified shock tower just in front of the radiator core support area. -
You've been hard at work on this one alright. You've got a nice gloss on it for dang sure!!

Here's three cut outs later. Still have to do a little trimming to fit perfect but progress is being made. -

Ok......I'm finally back in action on this one. After months and months of thought and fizzled out ideas I've finally got it. Sorry it took so long to get back to you Roger. I was just flabbergasted at the whole thing when it came to this part. First off...I had an idea for the fenderwells that have been giving me so much grief and pause on this build. We'll be moving forward using soda can aluminum for those. I have to move the shock tower just a shade to the rear of the engine bay to make this work so here's the plan moving forward. First off, I didn't have a Diet Coke can but I did have a Sprite offering. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand Presto!!! I've still gotta play around with cutting and trimming here and there to get it all to fit just right but you get the idea. Now I can cut the shock tower from the plastic piece and adhere it to the aluminum part in the correct place and I also get rid of that windshield washer bag that shouldn't be there. BONUS!!! -

Late last year I saw a build review of this kit in Fine Scale Modeler. I've always been a fan of the older Beetles and have also wanted to build a model of one from WWII so needless to say I just had to have this kit. Soooo....my wife got it for me for Christmas. I've been waiting for a slot in which to build it so I finally got one here a month or so ago and I had a lot of fun building it. The only real problem that it has is in the windshield fit. There's alot of sanding that needs to happen with the glass itself if you want it to fit perfectly in the opening. I managed to get it to work for me but it wasn't without its struggles. I will say this however, you will not find a better Type 82 out there on the market that has this kind of detail along with ease of build. IMO this is the absolute best kit out there for this car. I simply could not build this car and NOT put any aftermarket items or scratchbuilding into it so I started by adding spark plug wires and fuel lines to the engine, threw a German newspaper in the front seat from Fields of Glory and miscellaneous items like a helmet, map as well as the map bag, binoculars and a bread pouch in the back of the passenger compartment along with a set of glasses laid on top of the newspaper in the front seat from the Mini Art German Equipment kit. I also added a first aid kit on the passenger compartment wall next to the rear seat. The exhaust tail pipe outlet was drilled out as well. I was originally going to go with Tamiya German Grey as the body color but decided it was just too dark for my liking so I went with, of all things, some Stynlrez grey primer for the body color. After a good coating of Stynlrez I weathered it with an airbrushed coating of Mig Dark Wash which seemed to darken it juuuuuust the right amount. Decals are OOB and after those were applied a very light coat of Model Master Acrylic Flat Clear was applied to the whole body. Any how....here's the completed build: Bottom View: Other Detail Shots:

Got alot of stuff done to this one in the last week that finally all came together enough for an update. Windows are installed along with a lot of knick knacks on the body like tail lights , headlights, rearview mirror and little stuff like that. I was finally able to install the chassis into the body and mount up some tire/ wheel assemblies for it as well so she's on wheels now. The only real shortcoming I've found with this kit is in the windshield fit. Man......after all the good fortune I've had with it I found the Achilles heel in this model. The windshield.....good Lord the windshield. Make dang sure you test fit the heck out of it because you're going to have to sand the living daylights out of it to get it to fit right. I beat mine into shape but it was sure tough. On wheels....
