Very nice restomod. I do not think I have seen a real 71-73 Mustang that someone put in the Boss 429 engine but I’m sure it would fit with some minor alterations.

I think your assumptions are correct. It’s a niche kit and although it was release in four versions (Mach1, Autolite Special, Superstang and Iron Horse) it would not appeal to a mass market. I’m sure collectors/builders looking for their holy grail would love to see it in it’s original form reissued but it’s far less expensive for Round2 to reissue the same 68 Shelby kit over and over and I assume for some reason they can still re-box and sell that kit every five years or so despite there being i would guess tens of thousands out there already.

Reissue of Warren Tope's '73 Trans-Am Mustang

I spoke to the owner tonight. Very interesting history of how the car was conceived and would have been a replacement for the 69/70 “Boss” Mustangs raced in the T/A series but after Ford lost interest and did not want to pay the top racers things were drastically scaled down and only kept going thanks to some dedicated racing enthusiasts that still had some backing by Ford. Anyway, we talked for 90 minutes and I hope to get more pictures of the car and he plays to try to bring it back to how it appears in the mid 1970’s. I may have mentioned before there was a 2nd car that was built and entered a few races and was “restored” ad repainted orange but sold for a measly $50K at auction. The story goes that that is what the car would have looked like if the T/A series still had Ford’s full support but obviously the bidders were not impressed with a “what if” race car with little racing history. -
That is strange. I have had issues puttying in the vents and the underside where there’s a recessed rectangular area for a hood scoop but not what you describe.

I no longer want to be a USPS customer.

The thugs have realized it’s open season to do whatever they want and almost no one will stop them. Sad that it’s come to the point where the police are afraid to go after the criminals for fear of making an arrest and then being called out for profiling and harassment. -
Bummer on the hood and old decals. I saw this picture on Facebook and you can see the decals peeling on the front fender. The builder did the vinyl roof just like yours. I think one of the AMT or MPC version had a set of the correct stripes but I cannot remember which one. If you decide to paint the hood semi-gloss black it can be masked and painted by hand. I never had any luck with the hood decals that are supposed to cover 2/3 of the hood and over the scoops. Also attached is a picture of a 73 Sportsroof I built with no decals for a nice clean look.

Reissue of Warren Tope's '73 Trans-Am Mustang

They would have not spent the money to change the molds. Like many race cars this car evolved over its race life from the intention of being a replacement for the 67/70 Boss T/A race cars to running in IMSA and SCCA events in the mid 70’s. Once the T/A series lost favor with the Big three racers still wanted to race so there were a lot of Independent teams to pick up the slack. I always wondered what happened to this race car that was too little (or maybe large) too late and an internet search found the car is still around (as of 2019) and is supposed to be restored as in its present state it has a mix of the original configuration and later modifications. It was raced in 1979 and 1980 by William Maier under #25 against faster Corvettes in its class. -
The Boulder Shelby museum has just about every kit in the collection there but I did not see any models in Vegas besides diecast for sale. There is also the Cobra Experience in California which I have not seen in person. The issue I have with some “museums” is the donations may end up being sold off to pay for facility operating expenses. I guess as long as they do not get thrown out or sold for next to nothing the only reasonable alternative is to find other “younger” collectors that will appreciate your obsession.

Did you finish the build? I cannot remember seeing it.

Found a webpage that shows Max Berrier won a race driving a 72 Mustang. ? They were no larger than other mid-size cars of that era.

We had a similar situation with a member that died suddenly (an accident) and club members reached out to his widow and all his unbuilt kits were “bought” and resold to club members and collectors for reasonable prices. It was a lot of work as there were thousands of kits but as a 30 plus year member of the Maryland Automotive Modelers Association his fellow club members stepped up and avoided the chance the kits would be disposed or sold for peanuts. RIP Gary S.

Looks very nice. I’ll ask over on Ayer’s forum about a specific car I want to build pictured below. The main question I have is whether the chassis would be production based or a tube type NASCAR chassis. I think this car may have more in common with the TramsAm series cars but it is very difficult to find much information about them since they only raced them a few years.

I’m glad I never used one for more than a few days. The tests said I had sleep apnea but I tried one and it was not for me. Like any medical device mankind has done without for thousands of years, I realized if I changed my diet and exercised more and lost some weight my sleeping would improve. It has and I’m glad as it sounds like the machines could cause some long term problems.

Shelby real or fake?
vamach1 replied to Scott8950's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You can thank Ms.Halicki for milking the Eleanor trademark if that’s what it is. Foose designed a different car which turned out to be more popular than a 73 Mustang so other than the movie title and basic plot there’s not much the remake has in common with the original which was pretty bad. Maybe the real remake car Foose designed was rejected but he made one anyway for SEMA. Imagaine how different things would be if the star car was based on a 71-73 and not a 67 fastback. I think they chose the “Shelby” as they were gaining popularity and figured the licensing deals would add to their bank accounts a lot more. -
Shelby real or fake?

Thus the dilemma. It cannot be sold as a Shelby w/o that proof. I still think an Eleanor restored would be a safe bet - none of those are real either. -
Shelby real or fake?
vamach1 replied to Scott8950's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
SAAC would know the Ford VIN and Shelby VIN so they could determine if it was legit IF the front end of the car was kept. Otherwise it’s a ghost car and the origin cannot be proved without owner documentation. -
Stripes and Mustang script look good.

Millersport Customs decals

Just NASCAR for now? -
True. I was not a fan of them.

The only viable options are either decals from Rayskits or Keith Marks unless you can get someone to make custom decals. I like the vinyl roof - you don’t see many real sportsroof with that option.

Reissue of Warren Tope's '73 Trans-Am Mustang
vamach1 replied to '70 Grande's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Found this picture of Tope’s 73 Mustang showing what I believe is a fiberglass hood with the “scoops” there only for looks and other body mods. Obviously the rules for tire and fender width allowed changed over the years. -

Ten year plus later. Very nice photos for reference in Vintage Motorsport Nov/Dec 2021 in case anyone has this kit they are going to build. Here’s a teaser and nice build Mitch if you are still on the Forum. -
