Looks great Ray. It is by no means an easy kit given it’s small size but you did a fantastic job. You would swear it’s 1/25 scale looking at it.
-
Very cool. I think that kit even came with the rear window braces. MPC was just a few years behind the T/A series popularity and by the time thy attempted to make a race car the series was no longer supported by the big three like in 67-70. Warren Tope ran a 73 body Mustang and Steve Andrews ran in at least one race at Daytona in a Mustang sportsroof. Even Dale Earnhardt ran a highly modified 71 Mustang in dirt track races. You may want to paint the front and rear spoilers semi-gloss or flat black but otherwise I’d leave it the way it is.

Thanks to Gramps46 for letting me use the backdrop.

You’re right about the janky MPC kit. A 1971 Mustang 429 sold for $175,000 at auction recently so perhaps some have woken up to realize that was the pinnacle of Ford off the showroom floor performance. The new body style was too much for the purists but they cannot ignore that cars were getting larger. Have you seen the size of some of those 70’s Chryslers.

Search on GT40 in the forum. There are many threads on the Fujumi kits and trans kits and conversions done with the base MKI or MKII kit. It’s the best kit in terms of accuracy of the body but unfortunately nothing opens on it. The MENG kit looks interesting kit since it will have an engine.. All the other kits from the 1960’s have their good points and bad.

Amazing little kit that just did not catch on with the the American market. Very nice job on the Cobra and the Great garages scene with the added wood and Micromachine kiddie Cobra.

We can dream. ?

Only thing missing is a key to start it. Superb build. ?

Looks amazing and you are probably relieved it is done and very proud. I have been following the build but do not recall if there were side vent windows with this kit. My 1:1 Factory Five had them but of course that does mean much since it was a replica that could be customized. Wipers were optional. ?

Very nice clean build that looks even better with the improvements. ?

Glad to hear a “new” kit of the MKII is in the works. I guess we may never see a Mark IV with a engine in 1/12 or 1/24 but at least the MKII could be the basis for some interesting conversions using the Fujumi MKI and MKII bodies.

Ford GT 40 MKII 1966 Trumpeter1/12

Looks very nice. One of these days I will start on one of the two I bought. -
It’s a great little kit and imagine if they did other race cars or just upsized this kit to 1/25 or 1/24 or did a FIA body version. I think these kits were underpriced for the quality.

1966 Ford J Car Prototype
vamach1 replied to Gramps46's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
I finished this MPC kit about three years ago. I have rarely seen another one built. It’s box stock except I used the 69 Shelby taillights. -
Rare Kits... prices.
vamach1 replied to Brutalform's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great story. Some can take the hobby too seriously. If I put too much time into one model it does not to get finished. Like this gentleman I prefer to build the rare kits before the ones you can buy for $15 to $25 at the store. -
What Kits Were Molded in Green?
vamach1 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very true. The green is as bright as you would see in most promos from that era. -

(HRM) Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe
vamach1 replied to Venom's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
I was not sure of the make since my Japanese reading level is zero. ? I send a friend request via Facebook to YABUKI who wrote the article. Maybe his English is better than my Japanese. -
(HRM) Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe
vamach1 replied to Venom's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Here are some pages from a Japanese model car magazine from I am guessing the 1990’s. It appears to be a modified Gunze kit. The side windows look like what you are trying to replicate. -
Who can make decal copies?
vamach1 replied to RichCostello's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If that is a Round2 kit you can order extra sets them directly from them if you have the kit UPC code. -
Gunze Sanyo Cobra Daytona Question
vamach1 replied to Ralph Henderson's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I assume that was before Brad did a full kit. I have some resin parts that are copies of the rubber parts but not sure where those came from. Anyway, the full HRM kit is still available and does not cost much more these days than just the original Gunze on Ebay. -
1966 Ford J Car Prototype
vamach1 replied to Gramps46's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Here is a 1/43 kit I built many years ago. It is made by Sapphire. I would agree the slot car looked a little too wide in the front. -

No surprise there. I think DDP did a resin J car but since I built the IMC and MPC ones that was enough for me. ? -

Great build as always Gramps. It’s not too often you see this kit built and the other X-1 resin transkit built. As I mentioned before I wish I had bought more of the Lemans Miniatures ones to go along with the “larger” ? resin kits. I had not noticed some details you picked up like the unpainted parts of the interior and the “passenger” seat without the cooling ringlets.
