Looking good. The hood looks nice with the vents that are not supposed to be there you filled in. ?

Nice scores. I think at one time an autographed FM GT350 was selling for $400 that came with a few extras. ? I opted to get the Revell one despite the odd scale to go along with the red 427 Cobra.

The original box is pretty cool. There was also a Reggie Jackson version molded in green probably around the same time.

Gunze Sanyo Cobra Daytona Question
vamach1 replied to Ralph Henderson's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Were you h***5 ? I won it on January 28th by ten cents over only one other bidder. The $10 shipping seemed pretty excessive though so it ended up costing $32 just for the sheet. Good luck on your build. -
Gunze Sanyo Cobra Daytona Question
vamach1 replied to Ralph Henderson's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Very nice build. I scored an extra photo etch set from Ebay just in case I lost parts on my build which will probably happen at some point. The wipers were not on chassis 2299 when it was photographed so that’s why they did not end up being included in the Gunze model. -
What scale and manufacturer are these????
vamach1 replied to grant_3250's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Aside from the junkyard diorama idea you may be able to part them out. The Mustang has two piece wheels with the outer half made of metal which is unusual for that scale. Unfortunately the tires tended to dry out and crumble as shown in your pictures. -
Very nice. That is the body that I used the hood that I cut out to have copies made to do a standard 71-73 Mustang hood. Come to think of it that body might make a good substitute for the MPC out AMT kit to do a road racer. I have never tried to see if the “stocK” chassis would fit.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
vamach1 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Throwing this out there as the next one I started and will shoot to finish by the end of April. Let’s just say it’s not going to be the same old same old Eleanor color. -
The 67/68 AMT Mustangs have a much better 289/302 engine as does the Monogram 65-66 Mustangs and may fit the Monogram Cobra okay.
-
Looks good from here Ray. Have you ever tries to put in the Monogram or AMT 289 engines in one of these kits or even a 5.0? The Factory Five “427” kit Cobra I owed had a 302. Most of the kit cars you see on the road do not have a Ford big block.

Very realistic looking diorama and tribute to those brave Americans. Somewhere on my computer is a picture of some of the remaining members next to my Mustang convertible they rode in the parade in DC a few years ago. This poster they signed is on my garage wall.

Does a garage for diecast count? Here’s a Gulf gas station from China in 1/64 scale. Easy to assemble with super glue. Only complaint is the outside back wall is not painted and the ends of the two walls that connect to the front. It is sold on Ebay and came with a fiber optic light but no battery. As this in my 2nd Gulf garage I need to get some more Gulf mechanics and a lift and more shop stuff.

1967 Ford GTMKIV Le Mans Winner
vamach1 replied to Gramps46's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Here is the Renaissance kit which is very nice and three pictures of the Nakamura kit on Ebay for $200. These are about the only options other than the old MPC and IMC/Testors kits. -
Looking forward to the newest issue (my first as a new subscriber). Any word yet on when the last two issues (print or digital) will be available?

I like I more than the Foose versio, especially the wheels. Nice job.

Looks fantastic Gary. You are finishing some great models these days. I wish I could get some more done but the chores never end. I added a picture I just saw online that I had not seen before. -
Very nice. Yes the strip decals are always an issue when there are hood scope and vents etc. to deal with.
-
I would agree based upon the asking prices. Would it sell if it was reissued and retailed for about $30 probably so, but paying $150 to $200 for any of these inaccurate older kits is crazy.
-
Yes I believe the top one was and the may have been Mustang Monthly. I went through a 40 year collection of a few thousand magazines and saved all the nice color pictures of race cars (Fords of course) and restored Mustangs. It will help when building a specific car and perhaps give other Mustangs builder out there some ideas. Here’s a few 69’s you do not see too often.

Were there bets as to how long before I chimed in? ? I guess I am a little biased. Is that perhaps the SMBC resin 351 engine or something else? Sad story about Chris so I’ll leave it at that. Yes, a Ford engine belongs in a Ford no matter what decade and even Detomaso realized a nice 351 Cleveland would be at home in the Pantera. Rouse and, Ford of Australia also saw the great potential of this potent SBC killer. The 351C’s (R code Boss and, HO and Q CJ) in 71-72 were the pinnacle of Blue Oval street muscle cars (comparable 1/4 mile times than a stock Boss 429 or 68 1/2 CJ) but high insurance and gasoline prices, emissions requirements and Ford bailing out of the TransAm series put a damper on racing and perhapsit’s a good thing as we did not have to watch Mustang II”s battle against Vega’s and Monza’s on road courses. ? Anyway, thanks for putting a Cleveland in you Hot Rod and hopefully we will see a plentiful supply of correct 1/25 engines in the future.

Perhaps. What amazes me is the prices of the original undersized MPC 69 Mach1/GT kit. Other than the front end (better shock towers) I do not see much difference between that kit and the many reissues under the MPC brand including the Street Hawk version for MUCH less money. As you noted the same kit (most of it) is now under the AMT “brand.” I guess people want to pay a $100 or more premium for an original box and a few different parts. It’s almost comical every version I have seen of this kit has a GT gas cap. Does anyone know if the original kit actually has 69 Mach1 stripes? Eventually the reissued versions had them.

Per Scalemates (if you trust that source) there were three versions. Looking at my al bought at different times two glue bombs, one Blue Cresent instruction sheet and one decal sheet (Mach Won) it appears the Blue Cresent kit had a stock Mustang chassis with some add on parts for a Prostock drag version. The later two Mach Won versions have a funny car chassis. Everyone assumes the molds are long gone so the chances of seeing any of the three versions ever again is probably slim to none. Here’s two on my glue bombs which both derive from I believe the Blue Cresent kit. The more I learn about this kit the more bizarre it gets. It has a Boss 429 engine but has the Mach1 molder in the rocker panel. The Twister decals are Fred Candy and I built this AMT based kit long before the Revell Boss 302/70 Mach1 or Torino kits came out. I assume the Longnose version would be a separate new kit due to the length of the chassis and body. Whether it borrowed parts from other funny car kits or was used in latter version I do not know. The pictures of the open kit are on Ebay. 24 bids as of 10pm EST 3/19/21 with 20 hours left and it’s at $168. ? Anyone else feel free to chime in if I made any incorrect assumptions.

Being used to seeing this only in white I like it. I could even picture a red interior that would really stand out. Nice addition of the GT style wheels versus the prototype ones. Some knock the kit for figment issues but how many kits from the mid 60’s has opening doors and trunk. It looks like you added some things under the hood also. Nice job.
