Group 5 Pantera 1978
vamach1 replied to vamach1's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Yes there are a lot of racing versions to do but not that many to do with this particular body that I am surprised was even kitted. No luck with snikeforce1 on doing decals so back to the drawing board. The GT4 and GT5 race categories allowed what seems to be almost unlimited body modifications. I’ll keep this kit as it seems to be pretty unusual and was not part of the wave of Fujumi reboxed kits. The Gulf liberty picture is not based on a particular car but it sure looks cool. -
I have a few but built them early in the Monogram days. The decal sheet looks improved over the older issues but as Snake45 said the 1/25 builders will have to pony up some bucks for an original issue 65 or 66 fastback which is why I only have some glue bombs in that scale due to the collector prices.

Conley 1/4 scale Shelby Cobra
vamach1 replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Beautiful but some people have way too much time on their hands. I sold my “real” Factory Five 1:1 replica for less than half of that asking price and I could drive it. This 1:4 model will probably end up in the Shelby Collection in Colorado. -
I think age is on the side of this one. Fossils should not be shiny white so the aged look suits this kit well.

Looking good. I am following along for sure. I found some pictures going through my magazine collection last week. -

Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
vamach1 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You can start from scratch and there are more decals options. I have built the MKIV and J Car kits. Good luck with the project. -
I probably posted these before but here’s an alternative to making the 007 version since I the kit has a lot of road course parts to do this build. Some of the sponsor decals would be a problem replicating and perhaps a Pantera could provide the rear wing as it’s a little larger than stock. ?

Very nice I build. I do not remember that color. Looks like Slixx had you covered on the decals which complements the great paint work.

MPC Monza and Mustang II Questions
vamach1 replied to Erik Smith's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Good to know. Thanks. -
I have had this strange looking Pantera kit (no box) for maybe over 35 years and I thought it was pretty odd and I searched online and found what looks like it is supposed to resemble these pictures. So now the questions is where would I find decals for it? The kit may have also been issued under other Japanese brands. I emailed Lemans Decals (the guy in Spain) snikeforce1 on Ebay to see if he can make them. I will post when I hear back from him. I have the kit on the bottom right of the Scalemates picture but of course the decals for the other version look spot on assuming they are in that kit which I assume they are per the instructions I see from the multiple listings on Ebay for over $300 and not one picture shows the actual decal sheet. Maybe I should just sell the kit I have. ?

HL and Michael’s are it for kits in my area with the nearest Hobbytown an hour away. There’s one local shop that has a few kits left from the previous shop ownership but t is 95% Radio Control stuff now. I bought some supplies a few days ago there as they still had Tamiya paints, glue and putty. Having missed countless shows last year and with cancellations this spring there is slim pickings. I rarely buy new kits online as I used to buy them at our local MAMA meetings but the last one February 2020.

MPC Monza and Mustang II Questions
vamach1 replied to Erik Smith's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Are you 100% sure those differences are reflected in the Models? After all were are talking companies that still had 260 V8’s with oil tubes last used in 1964 still showing up in a 73 Mustang kit. ? -
MPC Monza and Mustang II Questions
vamach1 replied to Erik Smith's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For the Mustang I’m gonna guess nothing was changed by MPC (except for maybe the gas filler) as the trend back then was to not make mold changes for minor differences. I do not have enough to years of those to kits to confirm but that is my hunch the bodied will be interchangeable for a stock Mustang II. For whatever reason Mustang II kits seem to be pretty pricey these days on Ebay. -

I mentioned earlier in the thread I thought the MPC 260/289/302 engine was the same as the “real” AMT 260/289/302 engine. The are close but not exactly the same but they both have that oil filler tube which is what makes them obviously from older molds. The white V8 is from the AMT 66 Mustang kit and the red one is of course from the 007 kit. So we know neither of these engines are a 351 Cleveland and we also know the other engine in the 007 kit is a Boss 429 (only available in 69/70). We also know the original AMT 71-73 Mustangs kits used a 428 engine (available from 68-70) so that’s not a correct option either for a 71 Mustang. So, in the end neither the AMT or MPC engines can be used unless one wants to make a 302 Windsor powered Mach1 (with the stock blue valve covers and 2 bbl carb) which was actual the base engine but production numbers show most of them were built by Ford with either a 351 Cleveland (2 bbl or 4bbl) and about 5% with the 429CJ or 429SCJ,

Here’s what I decided to do with my PSM Boss 302. The grille is just dreadful. I cannot even remember what I paid but I know it was not over $20. Surely the 69 PSM kit is better and worth 100 times the original price. ?
