  1. Thanks guys. I promise not to disappoint on this one! Ive been wanting to build this for 10 years. This is one of only 3 of these cabs that I have, so I have to make it good.
  2. The tandem set up is very complicated on these trucks. The suspension will have to be scratchbuilt. You can make due with the leaf springs from the AMT R model. For nematic tires, I would suggest resin tires from AITM. I was going to build one myself using a 2nd bulldog kit as a parts donor and some R model camel back springs.
  3. Thanks Dennis. Im considering casting them for future 1/24 projects. Thanks Sean. Im not sure if the frame will stay this long. I do like a long wheelbase daycab with a headache rack and tool boxes, so I may go that route. Thanks Brian. I will end up cutting in a rear window. It was just easier to do it this way rather than patch the walk in sleeper hole. Thanks Gator. If I cant find the tires I have in mind, I will leave these on.
  4. I will be using a resin cab that Ive had for years, and cant remember who made it. Im using two kits as my donor. I will be taking parts from a K123 as well as a W925. I will use the tortion bar suspension, and probably the longer frame rails from the W925, and the rest will be the K123. I have a question mark behind the model number because I have been driving myself crazy trying to figure out what this truck would have been. Ive seen a lot of K521 Bullnoses, but the tortion bar suspension should make it a K525, but I cant find any proof of that model number existing. So until I have more info, the closest thing I can come up with is a K825. It will be a long wheel base west coast truck straight out of the 60s. It will have the kit Cummins, and Alcoas all around. Colors will be red, white, black, and gold.
  5. It looks like youve got the cab under control. Nice work.
  6. I can supply you with the rear tires from the Paystar kit. Just drop me a line if you want them.
  7. Sean, this looks to be a great project. This cab was available in resin, but I have no idea where to get one now. Hopefully its not too much work to convert the KW.
  8. Here are my incompletes for this year Sean Autocar Macks Pete Autocar Pete KW drag truck Chevy Ford Pete Last but not least, Western Star
  9. So far, Im liking the amount of resin conversions in the B.R.B.O. This one will be good to watch.
  10. Im looking forward to this Sam. After that Paystar, Im excited to see your take on an old Mack.
  11. This is going to be cool!
  12. Excellent work. This is just an amazing build to watch.
  13. Thanks Gator and Brian. Its the first time Ive attempted this. I have to give credit to Jarda for his functioning walking beams on the Pete 351 Logger he built. Ive seen it done before, but that build made me want to do it. Heres a wheelbase mockup. Rear tires have been sanded, and sidewalls have been scuffed with scotchbrite. The front tires will be changed for something that looks more like steer tires. Fuel tanks added.
  14. Thanks for the kind words guys. Here is the progress on the walking beams.
  15. Nice work so far. Ive considered buying one of these cabs myself, but havent had any ideas for it yet.
  16. Cool project Sean. I like the configuration, and the color scheme is just my style.
  17. Small update for tonight. I got more cosmetic work done on the hood. I added the rib to the top of the fenders that AMT forgot. I also reshaped the protruded section on the hood sides. The rib is made from .040 half round. Here is the progress on the 1/24 Hendrickson. I used parts from the AMT Astro rear suspension, and the spring pack from the ALF ladder chief. This is the start of the walking beams. Western Star offered a 56" and a 60" spread on the Hendrickson RT650 suspension for this truck. Im going with the 60" spread.
  18. Thanks a lot guys. Gator, I took a few close ups of the drive shaft. I drilled a .040 hole through one side of the U joint. Then I cut it apart like you would if you were making a front axle steerable. I cleaned up all cut surfaces with a small file, and slide a .040 styrene rod through the whole, and thats that. Granted, the U joint only moves in one direction, but thats all I need. This truck will have functioning walking beams, so everything needs to move freely.
  19. Im using AMT rear spokes with the Italeri 2piece tires
  20. Hey guys, theres another new project in the works. I was itching to try out a few ideas that Ive had for awhile, and its going well so I decided to share it. I had been thinking about back-dating the Italeri Western Star using the AMT hood. As you all know these kits are two different scales, so that presents a small challenge. Basically I want to use the grill and cab from Italeri, and the hood from AMT and make a straight hood 1st generation Western Star. I started by sectioning the AMT hood, and widened and raised it. I added .160 in the width and .100 in height. The grill fits perfect and the hood fits the cab. I also cut out the hood for twin breathers. I drilled and pinned the U joints to make the drive shaft movable. I cut out the front hubs from some snap pete alcoa and added them to the Italeri alcoas.
  21. Great job. Im digging the colors used.It reminds me of many cool cobovers running around in the early 80, with cream/orange/brown type paint job.
  22. Its great to see you back building JT. The trailer looks great. What type of cars are you planning on hauling with it?
  23. Cool project. I will be following. Great work so far.
