Best 60s Ford Mustang Kit?
youpey replied to Harpo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
this is my favorite car, so i have built them all. i see you bought a kit, but i hope this information is helpful. 1. the 64 1/2 mustang convertible from revell/monogram/revell germany = this is a basic kit which shares 90% of the parts with the revell/monogram mustang fastback, shelby gt350, gt350r, gt350h, etc. HOWEVER, this kit has extra bits for the interior including a center console and the pony interior gauges on the steering wheel. it does not however have the pony interior seats or anything like that. it also has the basic wheels with knockoff hubcap. there were versions that have the indy pace car decals, but i dont know if they all do 2. 65 mustang fastback from revell/monogram/revell germany = this is basic kit that shares 90% of the parts with the shelby gt350, gt350h etc (like #1). this has the performance wheels, which look like 5 star rims. this does not include the bits for the interior that the convertible has. the floor is bare, and is setup for a manual transmission. i dont believe there is an automatic shifter in the kit. one thing to note. the vents on the back do not fit perfectly on this. you have to line it up yourself. also there is a significant mold line right behind the vents that takes a lot of sanding to hide. it looks like the mold probably broke/cracked. 3. the 66 shelby gt350 from revell/monogram/revell germany = this is the same as the kits from #2, which makes the grill and interior incorrect. they are 65 parts, but it is labeled as a 66 kit. if you build it as is, its a 65. important to note, the gt350 kits have a hood with the scoop, and dont have the regular hood, so you cant make a stock mustang from the shelby kits. they do come with the grill for the standard 65 kit and the shelby. the gt350r has the different rear glass, and if i remember correctly, does not include the standard rear glass. on every one of the revell/monogram/revell germany 64-66 mustang kits, fastbacks and convertibles, they have bad flash on the front bumper in wrap around part of the front bumper. it is very noticeable and i have never been able to hide it without stripping the chrome and redoing it. 4. 66 AMT Mustang hardtop - this is a different scale from the revell as typical with the amt. this is important to note. this is generally a nice kit to look at from a distance, but the chassis is complete garbage with no details at all. the interior isnt great either. overall this is typically a pass for me. 5. 67 mustang gt fastback amt - this kit is overall OK. the front and rear dont fit great, but can be worked. this is different scale from the revell kits and way smaller. does not look good next to each other. overall i like this kit if you like the 67 mustang. 6. 68 revell/revell germany mustang fastback/bullitt - i do not like this kit. they have a screw to put together the chassis. if i remember correctly the axle is metal bar. it looks good when done, but i was surprised at what they pulled with this. 7. 65 mustang fastback AMT - this is probably the best looking mustang fastback kit on the body. it is long discontinued and there was a couple of vendors that casted resin versions of this. its super expensive to find this kit since its discontinued for 30+ years. i am sure there are others i am forgetting, but this is the general set of most common you will find. i like to use the interior bits from the 64.5 mustang convertible and put them into the 65 fastback kit. however, it gets expensive for a couple of extra pieces. one other thing to note. the monogram 65 fastback with the red car on the picture does not have the issue with the bumpers with the flash that i could see ( i bought 2 of these and neither had the flash), but its harder to find now since its old now. however the kit is molded in red, so meh not related to the kits, the 66 mustang was the first year ford used the "ford blue" on the motor, the mustangs before that had a glossy black painted engine. many people think this is not correct, but after significant research, it is in fact correct. so if you ever build the 64/65 kits, the block should be black -
Complete bonuses in kits

there are a couple of current kits that have these motorcycles. i think there was one that has a pedal bicycle too. i think it was a pickup truck that had a motorcycle. i thought i had it on my tower wish list, but i dont seem to anymore. there is a kit with the motorcycles link didnt show up https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFXHN&P=7 -
mpc firebird quality of build 1/16 1979
youpey replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
thanks guys. i am going to stick with the regular scale 1/24 from revell. i dont have it in me to pay the money for a big scale and have it not fit right. i am not skilled enough to get it together if it doesnt fit right. it will end up unfinished and probably in the garbage -
Anyone buying Revell kits just in case?
youpey replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
honestly. i have more kits that i can build for the rest of my life in my stash. if i never buy a kit again, and continuously build as long as i can, i dont think i would run out. problem is, i have to have a want to build a specific car. i cant just build a car to build. i have to have an idea in my head about it. Usually to put around a diorama that never gets started. -
the water seems to have gone down now and the car is gone. i dont know if it was towed out or if he came back. i imagine towed

this really stinks for this guy. this was in front of my apartment this morning. i went to the super market because i only had canned ravioli to eat. i almost went on that road too until i started to pull up to it and saw how much it was flooded. lucky i didnt go that way. i have a small car. i didnt think the storms were so bad to cause this

they sent the refund right away. it is still pending from paypal and says it will be available by tomorrow. I dont doubt that i would have eventually received the model, and that they are a trustworthy seller, but i was really disappointed that they didnt list it as being out of stock on their site and the wait time was so long. Had i known, i would have just ordered it from the place in england instead. -

https://www.hiroboy.com/search?q=belkits i chose the shipping with signature for a few dollars more. it took about 10 days or less -
https://adblockplus.org/ will get rid of ads
-
i cancelled my account long while ago, and i will never go back. they made our pictures not view-able for too long. I believe they thought they were too popular and people would give in and pay them. be like everyone else and do advertising and make money with ads. that is how google, facebook and the rest of them made their money (at least initially)

i hate to be the one to tell you, but that leak is a horrible problem and you should just give the car to me instead of wasting anymore time on it. the 67 is one of my favorite mustangs. you have a beautiful car.

i ordered a specific and very expensive fishing reel from amazon warehouse deals. which is returns/open box items and damaged box items for a large discount. the cost was about 50% off of bass pro shop's price. it arrived and i opened the box only to find a cheap junk reel, with some chinese writing on it. i have to assume it was bought by someone, they returned it with this junk reel in its place to get this expensive reel for free. and the people at amazon dont necessarily have the experience to tell the difference. it is the first time i have had an issue with the warehouse deals section, but this really burns me up. amazon said to return it for a refund, and i ended up just ordering another one, but from regular amazon, not the warehouse deals. it really bothers me that people can be so dishonest. unfortunately, i let it ruin my whole day yesterday because i was really looking forward to trying it. i am also the kind of person that worries about everything, and it worries me that amazon will receive it and try to blame me for the switch. (really i dont think they would but, in the back of my mind i worry. i have been an amazon customer since 2003)

I just wanted to give an update. It has been 1 month since my order and not a shipping notice. i asked them to refund me because it is past the amount of time they said and, honestly, i have placed two orders from england and they have both arrived before this one (first was ordered and received before placing second order and both arrived before this). i understand they might be an honest company, but 1 month is too long. if i knew it would have taken this long upon placing the order, i would not have placed it and i would have bought it from the company in england, and it would have arrived, and i probably would be halfway done with it. -
that is really great. which kit was this from?

i will give this a try on the next car. for this one, i ended up not using this car for the dio i wanted to do because i was impatient and wanted to finish the car. I finished putting in the roll cage and sealed up the car and finished it off yesterday. I dont think i would be able to get it right at this point with the roll cage in. However, i expect my next rally car will arrive in the mail tomorrow or the day after and the first thing i will do is get the seat adjusted and i will do the figures first. this way i can have them ready to go when I am ready. I decided i would prefer to use the new car in the diorama anyway.

sorry for the mislink. it is a 1/24 kit with the same body and decals this is the one exactly (updated the link in the other post to avoid confusion)
-
they are the figures from this kit and i tried to put it into
-
unfortunately the arms are a bigger problem for me. they are fully extended and way past the dashboard
-
i am nearly finished with my rally car build and i put my two rally figures in the interior of the car and i found that the arms are too long for the interior, the legs are too long, and generally just dont fit. how do you guys typically get people to fit inside of cars, do you cut the arms and legs and reglue them? how do you get them to look proper

i enjoy the old tv show stairway to heaven. it has some great writing

Would you say "in general" tamiya is better detail and fit and finish? if there was the same car made by both the tamiya will be better quality, or is it really just kit by kit determines it. i just ask because hasegawa has so many rally cars but they are very expensive, so i would like to make sure i get good quality. i am having difficulty finding good reviews. i compare them to tamiya because in my opinion tamiya has the best quality available

Thank you, this is helpful. i will take a look closely at this one. the ones i had linked, i had never heard of either brand. paasche i know of them.

i dont know if i mentioned this previously on one of your other posts, but that guy in the portrait on the background looks exactly like someone i work with. like twins

Resin casting parts - legal?
youpey replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I got to the 2nd paragraph only to realize i have zero idea of what it said. I always follow the rules. If you are unsure something is ok, its probably not and probably you shouldnt do it. I would never do something that could ruin my livelyhood or my reputation. Its just my opinion though and who am i to judge
