  1. I have decided to build a revell 1968 mustang fastback kit. i had been planning on doing a nice 1966 gt350r kit, but against my better judgement, i have decided to do the 68 instead. I say against my better judgement because i hate, hate, hate how revell did the chassis of this kit. first having to use a screw to put it together, and then metal bars for the wheels. i expected better. However, the 67 AMT kit is probably worse with the fitting of the bumpers, both front and rear, and i feel i can make a better overall looking kit. With that being said, are there any donor kits that have a better quality chassis that i could use in place of the one screws/metal bars that will look accurate? Are there any other fitment issues that i am not remembering? I think other than the chassis, it was a decent kit right? i hope so because i bought 1968 acapulco blue paint that is supposed to be dead on accurate, and it wasnt cheap
  2. i went to michaels last weekend, and they had just 2 kits, 1 was a snap kit. they had some plains, but cars were basically gone.
  3. What is the car you always dreamed of owning but always just out of reach? Mine has always been the 65-68 mustang fastback. it started for me when i was 17 (1994) and old enough to drive, there was a MINT 1967 mustang fastback 390 for sale for 10,000. i kid you not, 10k. at 17 i didnt have nearly enough money for a car that expensive, and it ended up selling almost immediately anyway. A few years later there was a 65 fastback in white, in not great shape, but driveable and restorable. I think it was 9500 or so. i kept remembering the mint 390 for 10k and felt the 9500 was too much. again, i couldnt really afford 9500 anyway, so not like it really mattered. over the next 20 years i see the mustang fastback increase in price all the time, and now lousy ones are going for 20k or higher and good ones are 30 to 50+ I technically could now afford one (not a minty one, but good), but it would have to be my only car, and i really cant trust a car that old to not break down. plus, i dont have a garage, so i wouldnt want to ruin one. whenever i talk to my wife, she just rolls her eyes about it. deep down inside, i know realistically, i will never get to own one.
  4. this is my very favorite show. however, until a couple of weeks ago, it felt like this season was crawling. i do like when i see familiar breaking bad characters. i hope to see walt's brother in law, i cant remember his name. also there has been too much with Mike. i know he is important, but it seems most of the season focused on him and not saul/jimmy i was glad they got rid of his brother at the end of last season, i also felt they spent too much time with him.
  5. i will be honest, i saw the first picture and thought it was an optical illusion from a weird camera angle. i hope you can get it straightened out
  6. i was able to mostly fix a warped hood using boiling water, but it slightly shrunk it because i kept it in too long. i tried just hot water from the tap and it wasnt enough to help, which is why i went to boiling. i am not sure i would want to try a body from a promo unless you would be OK with the possibility of messing it up...unless you have done it before.
  7. thank you for letting me know. i will take a look
  8. i just ordered that kit. thank you so much for the offer though. it ended up being just a few dollars more than the blue kit. thank you again though
  9. i suppose i will just try to find the white with blue stripes on the box to be sure. i was looking to recreate this car, which i dont know if this was even a real racecar. i found it by accident when looking for a different picture and fell in love with it.
  10. Can anyone tell me if the revell Shelby gt-350r kit with the blue car and white stripes on the box cover has decals with blue stripes? I wanted to make the opposite (white car with blue stripes). Or do I need to find one with a white car with blue stripes on the box. For some reason google doesn’t seem to know the answer to this, or my computer skills are faiding. This is the kit I am referring to
  11. i had a 1/12 mustang fastback, not only did i not build it, but i accidentally stepped on it and broke it
  12. i built my very best model a 1948 ford convertible. it took me many months. the paint was perfect, no dust, no flaws. when i was doing the BMF on the kit, i was getting tired and felt like i should stop, but i was on the last bit that needed it. sure enough, the razor slipped and cut a inch line into the side of the car. i didnt have it in me to try to fix. i painted it a pail yellow and i knew if i tried to fix it the paint wouldnt match. to this day it bothers me. i tried twice to paint the a new body again to replace the messed up one, but i havent been able to get it as perfect as the original paint job on the one i messed up.
  13. yes, but they are re-issued of lower quality kits. on the 65 revell/monogram, the bumpers have so much flash that when you clean it up you effectively need to re-chrome. there are horrible mold lines on the fastback kit that needs serious sanding to clean up and look right. there is a small hole after you mount the roof vent thing on one side that needs to be filled. there is a small divot (spelling) on the rear quarter of the fastback. the interior is nothing to write home about either. the door panels have little to no detail on them. the amt hardtops. i dont even have the time to write about what is wrong with them. for the amt 67, i remember that one being ok, but the bumpers needed some serious fitsing to get it perfect or it would be gapped/too big. i know that no kit is perfect, but we are dealing with 30 to 40+ year old molds with low detail when new technology is available. i know the hobby is small and shrinking, but i know i am tired of getting sub-quality stuff repackaged every few years. my nephew is a teenager now wanted to try modeling because he saw my old stash at my mother's house, and he picked a kit that was garbage. he didnt finish it because it was so bad. they cant get new people into the hobby with stuff that doesnt go together properly. we put up with it because we love it. he doesnt love it yet and wont put up with it. if you bought a new toaster and it didnt quite work right, would you spend 2 hours fitsing with it or would you return it and get a different one. its kind of the same thing i only build kits of cars i really like, and the 65 mustang fastback is my favorite car. i have built it so many times, that it is to the point that i am tired of fixing the same old slop over and over again and would like to build one that looks proper. if you build a tamiya kit from the 90's you get a kit that fits perfectly together, requires little to no maintenance as far as flash and practically you can shake the box and the kit comes out a show winner, how come revell/monogram and AMT cant do this 30 year later Its nice to see a company from moebius come out and give us better quality kits and actually care and listen to the community. this is a company i would like to support. i am sorry to sound like a grump on this. amt revell raise the prices of these kits to double, triple or higher and give us the same stuff over and over, many times not even changing the decals or anything at all. we deserve better
  14. i am all for trucks and being able to re-use molds. but there is not a good 65/66 mustang fastback or hardtop or convertible kit available. in fact, i dont think there is a good 64-68 mustang kit available at all. i think moebius could make some hefty coin on it. i know i would buy multiples of each if the kit was good
  15. i was thinking about i would be annoyed until i read your last line. it happens in 1:1 shows all the time. i wouldnt want to give a percentage, but i would imagine many to most cars were done by others. they typically dont have a sign that says completed by miles garage or anything like that. it put it in a different light to me. i wouldnt do it though
  16. those AMT 64-66 hardtop kits are absolute garbage. when i build kits i try to detail the chassis as much as the rest of the car, so a poor chassis and poor interior will be it for me. i dont think there was a redeeming quality of those kits. not to sound negative
  17. thanks guys. i saw the pictures and realized there was no engine compartment and opted for the amt 67 shelby gt350. i was trying to make a street car from a race car, but still wanted the race car bits. i believe the shelby will give it to me
  18. I am looking into getting the model king mustang bronco, but wanted to know how the quality was. i know its based on amt kit, which always worry me. i couldnt find much on-line about it. the link below is the model i am asking about https://www.modelroundup.com/product-p/amt-21572.htm
  19. i am 41, so most of the cars i remember are as a kid from the 80's or worse the late 70's. However, i am a big 40's-60's car fan. the biggest thing i would like to see is the personality of a car. today's cars are all about safety, gas mileage, that type of thing. also, most new cars can't be worked on without a computer. my nephew is going into trade school in high school where they teach mechanics. I am curious to see what/how they teach it.
  20. i dont know if there are any religious establishments in the area, churches, synagogue, etc. many of them will take donations and either use them for children in their groups or try to sell at fundraisers. you could even see if its tax deductible. When i moved a while back, i had about 50 models that i didnt want to take with me because i didnt have room and i donated 10 to a church. they wouldnt take more. There are other non-religious establishments that will take stuff, and many will pickup from you. I have bad memory, so i cant think of the name right now. if it comes to me later i will update this post. also, there are companies that will sell for you on ebay. i have never used anything like that, i think if you bring it to them, they handle all of the shipping and take a cut of the sale. i am not sure how much of a cut.
  21. thanks. i will have to give it a try. i am forever ruining my paints by wet sanding out specs of dust or stray cat hair that landed on the paint. i always end up still seeing the spot because the that layer is very slightly thinner, so the paint isnt consistent. (if that makes sense).
  22. which polish did you use to get out the dust? i get that often and try to wet sand it out, but it never looks right and typically will stall/stop my build at that point.
  23. daddy, the top came off. i am watching again right now
  24. On saturday i had a smokey and the bandit marathon watching it several times during the day. this is a sad day
  25. my mistake. i was talking including motorcycles in general. i didnt think they meant a very specific bike
