  1. Hello. Many, many years ago i bought a very inexpensive airbrush set from testors. it kind of looked like this, but https://www.michaels.com/10368311.html but it had an air bottle for the propellant that connected directly to the airbrush. I enjoyed using it, but eventually it was broken and i ended up buying a tamiya airbrush. i dont remember specifically which model i had, but it was a much higher quality over the beginner testors one i had. it looked similar to this when i used that airbrush however, the lines on it were so thin, and no matter what adjusting i did to it, i could never get a wide spray on the brush, so everything i painted looked like a zebra. eventually i gave up and went back to spray paints. i was looking at getting into getting an airbrush again so i have more options for color vs spray paint choices. below are my questions. 1. how do i know before buying an air brush if it will be able spray wide enough to use to paint a body without having very skinny lines and having to go back and forth on the body 100 times just to cover it (like my tamiya one). Is there some sort of text on the description i should look for? 2. I live in an apartment with an upstairs neighbor that is a complete psycho. She complains about every noise she hears, including the management supplied air conditioner. This makes me want to get something with an air supply that is quiet (like a bottle, not a noisy compressor). I can tell the lady upstairs to take a walk when she complains about the noise of an AC unit, but if i have a loud compressor, she might have a point. (although out of spite i would also like to know the name of the very loudest compressor available) 3. i really cant/wont spend a lot of money on a new air brush. i would like to keep it no higher than 50 dollars all in. Something like this is in my price range, but again, i have no idea if this can do wide sprays to paint a body https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0744GXH13/ref=sxbs_ktp-hero_tr_2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=3534580262&pd_rd_wg=rk4ip&pf_rd_r=GAMJXWPGB1ZRQM502PR6&pf_rd_s=desktop-sx-bottom-slot&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_i=B0744GXH13&pd_rd_w=KMJMP&pf_rd_i=airbrush+kit&pd_rd_r=7a946278-c869-4f8d-9da5-37d4e32e8dcc&ie=UTF8&qid=1524762657&sr=2 or maybe this with a bottle of air for the pressure https://www.amazon.com/Master-Airbrush-Multi-Master-Performance-Dual-Action/dp/B0067BAYNO/ref=sr_1_63?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1524762777&sr=1-63&keywords=airbrush+kit any help in direction would be very helpful. if you can answer some or all of my questions, i would greatly appreciate it.
  2. OK thanks, i assumed (probably incorrectly) that they would have all been based on the same mold. Meaning evo 5 to evo 6 for tamiya would use the same mold, just body differences. and that the hasegawa would do the same for their molds
  3. i only paid attention to gas prices when i had my GMC and the tank was so big that the 100 max fill limit that gas stations have wasnt enough to fill the tank.of course, that was when gas was over 4 dollars per gallon. now that i have a regular car again and it costs me 30 dollars to fill up a 10 gallon tank, it still irks me because i remember when it would have cost me 10 dollars to fill it. too much corporate greed these days, keeps people in debt.
  4. in general, how are hasegawa car models compare to tamiya? in general the hasegawa is more expensive than tamiya. for example, how is the lancer evo tamiya vs hasegawa evo? is one better than the other in fit and quality of build/accuracy
  5. the probe was supposed to be the mustang, but fans flipped because it was a mazda based front wheel drive. it was mustang fans that kept it going as what it is. ford ended up keeping the probe and naming it the probe, and they carried the prior design of the mustang
  6. i read this too, but they just spent so much money designing the focus rs, and what happens with the fiesta ST, focus ST. what happens to all of their wrc, and other rally cars. meh. i have owned mostly fords, but my best auto was a GMC. maybe i will get a foreign car or truck.
  7. I do database programming as my career and i have been doing it for 20 years. My boss always tries to act like a know it all, especially in front of her boss. In reality, she has never database programmed and has not done any programming in over 20 years, so any knowledge she has is out of date. today my boss decided that because they wanted something and i told her that it is not possible without doing additional programming. She insisted that i was wrong, because she wanted to look good in front of her boss. finally, I said to her, if you know of a way to do it without programming, then tell me now how to do it, and i will do it her way. i am always reserved and try to keep quiet on things, so she had a completely shocked look on her face that i challenged her knowledge in front of her boss. she stopped there and said we are just going in circles. if this is something needed we can figure out the best way to do it, and if it requires programming, we will do it. UPDATE: she came to me and tried to play it off like she agreed with me and it was just her boss was not understanding. my guess, she spent the last 1.5 hours trying to find how to do it and came to the conclusion i was right. She loves to rub it in people's faces when she finds something they dont know, so i would bet 1 dollar she tried to find it and could not.
  8. does anyone know if http://www.mshobbies.com are ok to order from? i placed an order at the end of last week and i havent heard anything other than the original order confirmation. Most places seem to send out the next day or two. I know it is still early, but i havent ordered from them before, so i am a little worried. I couldnt find anything on expected lead times either. i dont mind waiting, just want to be sure they are still in business UPDATE: i did not contact them, however they contacted me that they are out of stock on the item i ordered, but it will be back in stock after a specified time. I am glad to hear from them without me having to contact them. this thread can be closed
  9. i got my replacement hoods for my 2 that were super warped. the new owners sent them to me yesterday. i havent had a chance to check them, but assuming they fit ok, i might pull out my moebius again. prior to this, i had given up on them because it would look horrible the way it was
  10. i ended up not going because i was exhausted and didnt have it in me to make the drive. i am so disappointed in myself for not going,
  11. the base is only temporary. i plan to make a diorama out of it, just havent found the right picture of it yet
  12. This is my first completed model in several years i believe. It is a Heller Renault 5 Turbo rally car. This car has very little to no details. it is practically a snap kit. this is one of my favorite cars in real life, so i really wanted to make sure i finished it. I made many mistakes on it. The doors open and hood and trunk open too. I am getting the tamiya ones for my birthday, so i will try it again with that one. Next time though i am going to do an all white roof. trying to mask off the white with no edges and trying to keep the line tight was hard. EDIT. Added dust/dirt. what is a rally car without dirt
  13. tonight is going to be a big night for me. i will be putting on the decals on my renault 5 kit and calling it done. it was a horrible build with terrible detailing, flash and mold lines, but i kept going. i was calling it a practice build for my tamiya kit that i am working on next. i had quite a lot of mistakes in it (more than normal even) but i tried to fix it, and if i couldnt, i just kept going on. its looks like it will be a 5 foot model for me (looks good at 5 foot distance) however, this will be the first completed model that i finished all the way through in YEARS.
  14. i did, but i was searching this forum for research of something and found the topic, but it was hosted by photobucket so the pictures didnt show up
  15. oh goodness. how did i not know about this when i been googling model show in nj. i will be there. i went to the one a couple of weeks ago at the same place but it was all military models. i ended up leaving after about 10 minutes.
  16. photobucket becoming paysite, effectively ruining most forums that require pictures
  17. my birthday is coming up and i wanted to go to a model store to pick out some fresh models and paint. i live in NJ and was willing to drive around 2 hours to a good place, but it seems like maybe that is a thing of the past
  18. are there any good model stores within 2 or so hours of nj. I am talking store with huge selection of models. more than just a hobby lobby has. Like a mix of old and new models. there used to be one in north jersey, but they closed down a few years ago
  19. i like it a lot it is really great. what is that on the rocks just under the one branch of the tree. it looks like its white, with something brown at the bottom?
  20. here is a shortened version of a multiple days long hunt. I had a plastic statue of darth maul that i bought, and his head was messed up. the manufacturer sent me a new head, which ended up being worse. i ended up sending the whole statue back for a replacement but for the life of me i couldnt find the darth maul head. i tore apart every room in my apartment looking everywhere for 2 days. ended up never finding it, thankfully they didnt ask for it back yesterday i was working on a model and a wheel fell out of my hand. it was missing for like 30 minutes. i tore apart my entire area trying to find it. i turned to my wife and said, i think i have another darth maul head situation happening. she cracked up. i found the wheel like 10 feet from my work area, seems it fell and rolled pretty far (or my cat tossed it a couple of times, either is possible) This would save me a lot of grief.
  21. i get orange peel with testors paint. i dont get it with tamiya. for the longest time i only used tamiya, but the problem is the colors are limited.
  22. i feel horrible for the people that lost their jobs in this. i would never wish that on anyone, and i hope they have a quick time in finding something even better. i speak about revell, but in reality there are quite a lot of other modelling companies that have this issue as well with that being said, hopefully something changes at revell with the quality of their models. They release these old molds at a premium price, and i for one am quite sick of paying for outdated and inferior products. as a modeler i am super happy to have a specific car that i very much wanted to build, but I have overlooked or tried to correct the mistakes in the mold or in the casting of it, so i could build that particular car. in reality though, we are paying 2x, 3x,4x,10x or more for the same model 10 or 15 years ago or longer. then you look at companies like tamiya, where you know 99% of the models will not have fitment issues, or bad warping issues and will build up to a nice looking model with little skill needed. i have had revell kits that have such poor fitting pieces, that i have had to put it in boiling water to reshape. in reality, i should have returned that model to the store and not given my money to revell. As a modeler for over 30 years, i should have said no to buying these inferior products a long time ago. with that said, bring on the next rebox of a car/truck that i really want to build and i will give you my money, regardless of how poor the quality it because everyone knows that i will.
  23. can anyone confirm the following this is a curbside kit (meaning no full motor is included in the kit) http://www.hobbylinc.com/hasegawa-lancia-delta-hf-intergrale-16v-91-1000-lake-plastic-model-car-kit-1:24-scale-20289 this kit has full engine detail http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/hsg/hsg20299.htm i dont know why i am struggling to confirm these answers
