NNL East New Truck Kit News? Please post updates here....
mikemodeler replied to tim boyd's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
It was mentioned on the Round2 Facebook page that Steve Goldman was going to be at the show with some new kit announcements. No exact specifics but should be interesting to see what they have up their sleeves. I suspect that by noon Saturday, if not sooner, the internet will be a buzz with the news of what is coming. -
'68 MPC Dodge Coronet roof up Convertible
mikemodeler replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
But the problem is that the uptop is misshapen (see ZoomZoom's comments above) so even if it was free, it still isn't a bargain. In addition to the rear of the piece being wrong, it appears the front doesn't meet up with the top of the windshield. -
Covid kicked my backside so I am a week late posting pictures. Andy does a great job printing and shipping these kits, gotta save my lunch money up for a couple of others he has available. Here's pictures of what I received, very nice indeed and when compared to some other 3D printed stuff, its quite the kit with all that is included.

Who took over Scenes unlimited
mikemodeler replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To be fair, Danny at Scenes Unlimited had been retired from his first career when he started SU years ago. And these last two years saw some serious health challenges for him and that is why he sold- he couldn't give the service he had previously and wants to enjoy life. I hope that Paul sees fit to offer the tires and wheels for pickups and SUVs that Danny developed, they filled a void for those of us seeking alternatives. I'm thinking Joseph at Fireball might have some new stuff soon, maybe after he completes his move this month. -
MPC 1981 Chevy Stepside Pickup Sod Buster (1:25 SCALE)
mikemodeler replied to av405's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Kris Morgan at MAD offers a beautiful resin casting of a 78 Chevy long bed pickup with the side trim, even comes with a bench seat. The Deserter or the Sod Buster is the chassis donor. Surprised one of the 3D printer guys hasn't seen to offering a 2wd conversion for these kits. -

That's great Steve, any chance we will see some other versions with different grilles/model years? -
How are those Salvino kits, any better than their earlier attempts? I remember you being critical of the first kits they did and wonder if they have improved them enough for you to buy them now? Are you doing reviews of them?

Sure beats that "hot knife" setup I bought in the 70's that basically melted the plastic.

Having worked in the parts biz for 40 years, that is exactly what happened. And happens all the time, from OE to aftermarket, and the same happens with our little hobby when Revell or Round2 reissues a kit, they assign a new kit number with the same basic kit inside.

MAD Resin, anyone?
mikemodeler replied to oldcarfan's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
As promised, here are two pictures of the Ford bed. Clean work, looks like a kit piece more than a resin one. Who ever did the conversion took the time to do the side trim correctly and fixed the wheel wells. Kris's stuff does not disappoint and his service is top notch. -
I just got home an hour ago from a week long business trip and my kit was delivered today. 9 days from when I placed my order to it being in my mailbox, which is very impressive considering that includes shipping from central Nebraska to Charlotte ! I will post pictures tomorrow, worn out from the week, but my first glance at it and it looks beautiful.

I have that bed and it is beautiful! All of Kris's stuff is top notch. I will have to find it tomorrow and post a picture of it. -
The 65 GTO and pickup might find their way home at some point. I think I still have a couple of the old SS454 kits along with a couple of promos, but that 65 GTO has been a long time coming and definitely on my list.

What do you drive?
mikemodeler replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's my daily driver. Had pickups from the age of 18-32, sold my last one when baby #2 was on the way and a standard cab pickup wouldn't haul us all. It's a 2022 Tacoma SR5, nicely equipped and will likely take me well into retirement since I have worked from home and only put 7500 miles on it in 15 months. It's due for a full detail and ceramic coating as soon as the pollen season is over I have the 2-3 days to spend prepping and completing the job. -
70s GM engine colors
mikemodeler replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes. I believe that Testors ModelMaster had a GM engine blue color, don't think its still available but it was close to a light blue color. In their small enamel bottle line (1/4 oz jars) they have three blues that are close: 1108 Gloss Light Blue 1162 Flat Sky Blue 1110 Gloss Blue -
He was at the ACME show in Atlanta last November selling JoHan stuff, minus the AMX. Otey is trying to keep the JoHan brand alive.

Grill design requests
mikemodeler replied to Texas_3D_Customs's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Knowing that Trailer Trash is shut down, that is why I suggested someone else take on the designing and selling of the hood and grille conversion. A 4wd conversion would be nice too. -
Ordered mine last night, anxious to see it when it arrives.

Grill design requests
mikemodeler replied to Texas_3D_Customs's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
When GM redesigned the pickups, they differentiated the HD from the light duty pickups, similar to what Ford did, by using different grilles and hoods. I have several of those 96 Dually kits and promos but would like to replicate the 99-2002 2500HD/3500 series grille and hood. Not sure how many others are interested in that same hood and grille combo, thought I would throw it out there to gauge interest. -
I need a recommendation.
mikemodeler replied to ctruss53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Depending on what you want for the kits, there are several options; 1. Local model car show/swap meet- I know there is at least one in the Minneapolis area every summer. Best place to sell as you have a captive market and if you are serious about selling, this is the place to get a fair dollar and limited expense. 2. Places like Fred's Model World and Dean's Hobby Stop buy collections (there's probably more) and while they don't pay top dollar, they typically will buy the whole lot and it makes for a clean transaction. And by saying they don't pay top dollar, I mean that they are a business and have to have some margin to re-sell it. 3. Local automotive swap meets- might not do as well as a model car swap meet, but still a good audience for your stuff. 4. Look at neighboring states to see if they have a model car show coming up. Yeah it's a drive but if the time works out, you could make a mini-vacation out of it. 5. eBay- Only if you want to spend the time monitoring the auctions and managing the fees and expense of doing so. It's a worldwide marketplace but with it comes a lot of work if you have a large stash to sell and you do it one model at a time. 6. Local model car club- they might be able to help you if they have meetings where they have sell and swap dates. Make a list of what you have and do some research on the value of your collection. Old kits aren't necessarily valuable, especially if they have been re-issued many times. Conversely, some newer kits can be quite valuable if they were limited runs or unique subjects. -

Grill design requests

According to GM Parts Direct, it is the same fender for the 1500 and 2500 HD. That picture might give off the illusion that they are different. As I pointed out, the grille, the hood and the filler panel below the grille are unique to the 2500 HD & 3500 HD models. I made a poor attempt at replicating the hood and scrapped it.
