Grill design requests
mikemodeler replied to Texas_3D_Customs's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Seeing the two "new" AMT 90's Chevy pickup kits coming, wonder if anyone else would be in for a work truck/base model grille for them? Once upon a time Jim Amato at Uptown Automotive cast a 3500HD conversion that had the base grille. He sold the masters to Jeff Ballard at MCRC and it's been documented here that Jeff is way behind in orders so with these kits coming out, great opportunity to bring the grille back, maybe even the conversion kit. -

Welcome, I'm down in Charlotte and am a transplant as well. Are you familiar with the upcoming swap meet in Salisbury on 2/18? There's also a show/swap meet coming up in April (I think) in the Statesville area. -

2023 Busch Light Clash
mikemodeler replied to bbowser's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
NASCAR has become as predictable as WWE and half the ball sports. I got tired of the way too long yellow laps last night and watched Highway Thru H3ll instead. -
While I totally agree with you, it wasn't that many years ago we had to wait for a kit to show up at the hobby shop before we could decide to buy it. And the magazine reviews were always a few months behind due to lead times. I've seen Chad at the MCACN show in Rosemont IL, not sure how much of a "car guy" or modeler he is, especially based on his videos.

This is a handy reference tool. http://www.73-87.com/7387info/7387trimlev.htm

That pickup kit is nothing to get excited about. Very basic kit, inaccurate chassis and poor details.
-
That was the case for GM pickup trucks starting in 81.

Uh, no. Those are short beds. No one has kitted a long bed square body 73-87 GM pickup. Morgan Auto Detail offers both a long bed in resin for the MPC Deserter as well as an excellent 77 Chevy pickup kit complete with side trim and bench seat, mastered by Tom Ellifrit (Repstock here on the forum). It has been mentioned here that Round2 plans to offer different versions of the Sod Buster (likely grille and bed difference) over time and we can hope that might include the opportunity to build it as a 2wd truck.

1986 Chevy El Camino SS
mikemodeler replied to ModelcarJR's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That looks really nice, great choice of colors. It surprises me that none of the resin casters have stepped up and offered stock front ends for this kit to build 78-87 model years. -
I have two to build and have some ideas but I think one will be bone stock. What color/brand is that blue, it looks pretty close to factory.

Olson Bros. resin parts - update on Chris
mikemodeler replied to gui_tarzan's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks Jim, hope Chris can either get back to where he needs to be or decides to shut down the business. It would be a shame to lose another resin vendor but more important for him to be healthy. -
Resin Parts suppliers that have closed?
mikemodeler replied to Oldmopars's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Chris Holthaus was casting the tires for a long time for Don and Carol. Once they finally retired and closed the business, he opened Modelhaus tires. All he offers is the product listed on his website. -

Another beauty Chuck! Surprised there isn't more rust and rot, definitely weathered and dig those different colored panels. -
SCMA Show & Contest Spartanburg SC January 21st,2023
mikemodeler replied to VW93's topic in Contests and Shows
All right, who all is going to this event? Supposed to be clear and warm(ish) so no excuses! I'll be there, selling off some old kits. -
Fireball Modelworks still in business' ?
mikemodeler replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Yep, he mentioned the same thing to me. I think between that car accident on NYE 2021, Covid and the steady stream of orders, he hasn't been able to catch up. My order took about a month from when I placed it to when I got it and that included the holidays, so no complaints from me. From what he teased, he has some cool stuff coming for the reissued 78 Bronco but he didn't say exactly what. -

mikemodeler replied to Oldmopars's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I don't believe that Olson Bros is closed, although Chris has been absent from the business for a few months. Hope that he gets things sorted out and is able to get back to his old self and crank out some product. I think the thing to remember about resin stuff is that if you see something you like, buy it if you can because this thread has shown, there have been some great companies that have gone out of business. -
Thanks Al, I am set, already have a donor S-10!

Another awesome build, the scratchbuilding you do and make seem so easy is incredible! -
I have two of the MPC kits to build someday, one will get the turbo 4.3 V-6 and AWD drivetrain out of the Revell S-10 pickup kit that is out right now.

That is the color it came as a promo, dark camel. My best friend from childhood had one just like that, minus the flames and wheels, in high school!
-
So I got this promo cheap in a deal on eBay over the holidays and like the one I did previously, this was a quick wheel and graphics update.
-
Been on a Promo buying spree, have to stop myself from venturing on to eBay for awhile. I picked up this gem, probably will leave it in the box and not mess with it.
