Revell & Atlantis at the IPMS National Convention 2025
mikemodeler replied to niteowl7710's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Some nice stuff there, a few will get added to the stash. As far as the Mustang not having an engine? Who's fault is that, the model company or Ford? Could be Revell has a budget for new tools and they know they can sell the snap kits easier because of the broader appeal and price point? Not sure how much detail can be shown in 1/25 scale of a modern engine compartment given the amount of plastic coverings commonly found on them. Maybe Ford doesn't want to share the underhood details and drawings with the model companies? Maybe as a former Ford employee Tim Boyd can shed some light on that? We all have to adjust our expectations and budgets when it comes to model kits. It sucks that I just paid $34.50 for the Jeepster kit that is coming as I am sure I bought that kit for a tenth of that price back in the day, but back then I was a young kid with a $1.50 a week allowance and had to choose wisely because I needed paint and glue as well. New kits are going to cost more, whether it is licensing, production costs or import fees and tariffs, it's the reality. -
Well, the man from Moebius shared what they have worked on so far, maybe this detailed information will help them figure out how to maximize without compromise? I'm hopeful that this will yield a variety of kits in drivetrains, body configurations and options.

72 Jeepster. Anyone know anything about this coming out.

Yep! Just placed my pre-order earlier today with Wes. He is a straight up, no BS hobby shop. Fast service and very fair pricing, he has them for $34.50 plus shipping. -

Typically they go up for pre-order when the distributors receive notice of when their orders will arrive. I would expect to see pre-orders sometime this month, as Round2 just showed this kit on their August preview, which is good indication that the kits have been shipped from China. -

I had a cardiac arrest in June and have a defibrillator now, and I lost my job at Dow because of the economy so I have to focus on finding another job right now. Sorry to hear of that double whammy Jim, hope your health and job situation get better. You and Chris have been thru a lot in the last few years. Appreciate the update and hopefully you're back at it soon. -

Not really, as pointed out not much changed from the last issue minus the oversized tires and wheels. The long roof is pretty much the only change, likely didn't cost them a lot to churn this one out. -

On the August Round2 preview on YouTube, Chad shows the Jeepster kit. It has the half top and full top build options. Does not appear to have the lifted suspension like the Mount-N-Goat version. Did not have the snow plow illustrated on the box. Looks intriguing enough to get one or two next month. -

To the best of my knowledge the body is no longer available, I was lucky enough to get one when they were making them. -

As I pointed out in an earlier post with pictures of the kit body and a resin body from Olson Bros that is based on the early Jeepster. -

Hobby Shops Closing ?
mikemodeler replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have lived in Charlotte NC for 20 years. When I first moved here there were several Hobby Town USA stores as well as LHS in the area. Hobby Lobby as just starting to show up here and Michael's had a variety of kits. In the surrounding area (75 mile radius) there were several really nice LHS, some with R/C, that had supplies and kits to choose from. Today? Michael's has virtually no kits, Hobby Lobby has more stores and the closest LHS is 40 miles away and that is a Hobby Town USA that is focused on R/C. I get my stuff at shows or online because otherwise there's nothing to choose from. Can't remember the last kit I bought at HL as they seem to have all the same stuff I already had in my stash. Of the LHS that have closed over the last 20 years, most have been due to owner's health or lack of interest in continuing the business. -
Western Star 4900 FA plow truck
mikemodeler replied to BK9300's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Been thoroughly enjoying the progress on this build and blown away by the details. This is truly a labor of love type build considering the amount of work and detailing that you have put into this. Those plow lights look infinitely better than what Revell and Moebius have put into their recent truck kits with plows, would be nice if those were readily available to those of us wishing to upgrade a build. -

I will post up some pics later of the last issue Mount-N- Goat and a resin body replica of the original Jeepster body comparing the two. The original grill is in the MnG version so its a matter of converting the body from the cowl forward to accept the grille and have the correct shape wheel opening & fender. Could be something easily done using a recent Jeep CJ kit, not sure. I bought the resin body years ago when Olson Bros was offering them, I think they used an original body as the master. -
Nice tutorial on this kit. I have one in the stash and am thinking maybe a base build with L-6 250 from one of the 3D suppliers.

The Jeepster is slated to be out in July. Will be interesting to see which parts are included in the kit as there were several variations back in the day. My guess is that it's the Mountain Goat kit minus the 1/20 scale tires and wheels. -

Y'all keep asking for those MPC Chevettes are going to hurt my retirement fund as I have several kits and close to a dozen promotional models. I'm hoping they never bring em back and I can sell my stash off to take my bride on a Hawaiian vacation! -
