Will we ever see the Monogram S-10 again?
mikemodeler replied to Jim H.'s topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Manny at VCG Resins offers a 1984 S-10 Grille, I ordered the other day. Would be nice if someone offered the 2wd front suspension and stock engine parts. -
Louisville crew cab
mikemodeler replied to Modelcollector's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Good question. I sent him a message yesterday on something else in his line and am waiting for a reply. I will ask him about the Louisville crew cab if/when he gets back to me. -

I'm here in Charlotte Jonathan, I've been looking for one that hasn't been beat to death. -

For now just the stock suspension, maybe some grilles to do the 82-90 & 91-92 model years. A proper 4wd suspension with the correct ride height would be nice , maybe possible. -

Going to be watching this, wish I had grabbed one of these when I had the chance. -
Pegasus offers these with and without tires. Order direct from Pegasus or some of the online retailers have them too.

Will we ever see the Monogram S-10 again?

Working with a resin caster this week to see if he can make copies of the 2wd suspension easily enough to offer up to the masses. Stay tuned! -
While that would be ideal and make life a lot better, we are probably more likely to see the line of Revell paints that are coming. Of course if us modelers started a letter campaign to HL headquarters, it might sway them to add the Tamiya.

Earlier this year there was an article that due to the pandemic, there was a resurgence in the model kit building hobby. I doubt HL has suffered as a result and the alternating weeks of 40% off are probably to keep people coming back into the stores. Guys go in with their wives/girlfriends/kids and walk out with a cart full of goodies, and because kids have been isolated, they go back for more crafts/activities/kits, actually pretty smart of HL. I have noticed that many of the snap kits have been out of stock so maybe that is an indication that more kids are taking part in the hobby? People have mentioned here and elsewhere that the Ollie's kits that they have bought were part of a July production run and wondered if they were purposely made for Ollie's or if they were some big retailer's cancellations? My guess is that Ollie's saw the resurgence and asked the manufacturers for overstock or special runs to sell to draw people in. That may have played a part in HL running a 40% off sale too. Luckily for me I have an Ollie's and HL side by side nearby and will head off later this morning to see what bargains I may be able to find. In talking with a few resin casters they have said this pandemic has caused their business to double and they are swamped with orders. I know I have spent more than my usual this year, partly because I have more time to surf the 'net and more time to build. I think as long as we are forced to isolate, the better our hobby does.

MCM Relaunch Update 11/6/2020
mikemodeler replied to larrygre's topic in Model Cars Magazine News and Discussions
With no hobby shops in my metro area, will there be an option to order a copy of the magazine directly from MCM? Will one of the online retailers carry it? -

This eBay seller is nuts...
mikemodeler replied to BlackSheep214's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have seen some crazy prices but lately it seems to be insane! I saw a Revell Can Do Peterbilt Wrecker kit on eBay for over $900, a kit that retailed for about $80! I remember selling mine to a fellow modeler for $100 and we were both happy. If someone is willing to pay that price, that is the way of the world I guess! -
Gee, if they have the license and drawings to do a 1/64 th scale Chevy pickup, what's stopping them from doing a 1/25th model kit?

Ollie's strike again
mikemodeler replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you are a member of Ollie's Army, you should have received a 15% off coupon on one entire purchase thru November 22. -
Yes, if you look at the box art it shows the transfer case and turbo charged engine which was the Syclone. I think it can be built stock, just have to re-work a few things. The wheels in the kit are for a 4wd version, not correct for this truck but the AMT 86 El Camino has a correct style rally wheel that can be used.

New here returning to hobby
mikemodeler replied to Ron Warner's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself
Welcome Ron, you will love it here, lots of great people and many helpful tips. Did you used to hang out at the Scale Auto forum, you sound familiar? It sucks about the Scale Auto mag being killed off, I hear that they are merging it with their plane/military mag, probably gonna suck. The good news is that they are getting MCM back in print to fill the void left by SA closing shop. From what has been shared here it will BLOW away the old SA and will be like the good old days of the magazine. I know it hasn't been around much but that's supposedly all fixed. I am waiting to see it before subscribing, but if it's half as good as what they say, count me in! Share some of your builds, love to see what your interests are! -
‘77 GMC Plow Truck

Looks great! Where's the rest of it??? -
Went tonight to get another 84 GMC Deserter for a donor, almost grabbed two but figure I will get one next time. As I was looking over the shelves, someone had marked the 65 Chevy Step Side pickups at $15.99. Needed one of those for some parts so I walked to the front and after 40% off, I was out the door under $30 tax included for those two kits!
-
I bought two kits when Don and Carol announced their retirement- a 64 Dodge Crew Cab pickup and a Shasta travel trailer- and have since sold off the Dodge. I couldn't decide what I wanted to do with it so I sold it to someone who I knew would build it. I could have listed it on eBay and made a killing but didn't. I think the Shasta camper will end up behind a 66 Suburban, not sure, but it will get built! I am sure some of the Modelhaus stuff on eBay is being listed by speculators who loaded up and have been waiting for the right time to sell.

Rich- combine the Burban chassis with the pick up body, make it a curbside, experiment!
-
Rich, Not sure what that 4x4 stuff from B-N-L will cost you, but here's what the Suburban body looks like sitting on the Deserter frame. Those Deserters can be had at HL for less than $20 with the 40% off. All kinds of tires and wheels can be used, the ones on this one came from Scenes Unlimited.
