MCM Relaunch Update 11/6/2020
mikemodeler replied to larrygre's topic in Model Cars Magazine News and Discussions
I was pointing out that in mid-January you mentioned the magazine was in the process of being finalized and being sent to the printer, and nearly two months later it was actually being sent to the printer. Given the history of the magazine and the delays, I wasn't sure which was accurate and was slightly confused. I guess my expectations were that with a new team in place, the magazine would be appearing in a more timely fashion than before; 3 months between issues seems a bit long and makes it hard to stick to the schedule of 6 issues per year. Having worked in print production in the past, I know from experience that once you get behind, getting caught up is extremely difficult. -
Morgan Automotive Chevy Longbed
mikemodeler replied to GMCSierraGrande's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Kris's stuff is awesome and the bed you reference is a nice piece, I have one to use on a build. He's like most resin guys- a one man band who is swamped with orders so it might take him an extra day or two to respond. -
Coming from one of the best I have seen on here, that is saying a LOT!

Back when Ollie's had these for $7.99, I grabbed all that I could! Still have several in the stash, built a couple of them. I hate the sunroof is molded into them, Here's one of them with tires from Scenes Unlimited

BNL Resins good / bad?
mikemodeler replied to John Verkerk's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Not sure which tires you are looking for, but Fireball Modelworks and Scenes Unlimited have some great tires, as does Modelhaus Tires. All have great service and excellent product. -

Ford Bronco Half Cab Sandman II
mikemodeler replied to martinfan5's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Yeah, don't need another Bronco kit and I already have the half cabs from Olson Bros, so the Bronco might be traded off. Surprised they went with the stock body and not the Baja with the rear wheel openings cut. -
I have some resin wheels that I want to chrome, some just the rim and others the whole wheel. My question is what is the best way to do this? Should I .. A. Send them out for plating? B. Spray chrome paint from a rattle can? C. Airbrush Molotow or Alcad? D. Chrome BMF? E. Brush paint them with Testors Gloss Chrome enamel? Really want to do a good job so all comments are welcome, if you have a video or pix to share, even better!

Out Of Production Resin & Aftermarket Products
mikemodeler replied to Casey's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Had never seen that before, very interesting. I do have a Jimmy Flintstone Dodge SUV based off the Dodge truck that is his version of a Suburban. Need to drag it out and build it one day soon. -
'68-72 Chevy PickUp rummors about reissue?
mikemodeler replied to Sergey's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
They are about the same price. If you buy the wedge, you can always trade off the wedge body for something you need. Same way with the Coke version, trade off the Coke machine if you don't want/need it. -
Ford Bronco Half Cab Sandman II
mikemodeler replied to martinfan5's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Having hundreds of tires I will likely find something to replace them with, not too worried. Thanks for the picture and update Casey. -
Ford Bronco Half Cab Sandman II

Makes sense, about the only new thing in this offering is the half cab. Wonder if that buggy will have the plastic tires? -
Ford Bronco Half Cab Sandman II
mikemodeler replied to martinfan5's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I don't need another Bronco kit and I already have a couple of half cabs from Olson Bros., but I could be a buyer if it comes with the trailer and buggy! Not surprised they are still milking the tooling for another version. -
Hit mine up today, grabbed a couple more kits to use as donors. Also used my 40% coupon for another Tamiya paint stand $15 sounds better than $25! The shelves were pretty well stocked and quite a bit of variety.

Caution / emergency lights

Check out Squads by Tony. He has all kinds of police/fire/emergency stuff. Great product and service. -
Nice work on that rig and getting all the shiny bits looking good!

I noticed last Saturday that one of the HL near me had boxes of inventory to put away on the floors and in the aisles. I chatted with a store employee and they said that shipments were delayed due to the severe weather that the central and eastern US had been experiencing, thus the product on the floor. They try to not stock on Saturdays as they know it's one of their busiest days. The empty shelves at your store is probably a result of delayed shipments. That said, it will be interesting to see next week's ad and also if there is an adjustment to prices.

Yeah, It's like you have to watch every day and place an order once he shows it in stock before it's sold out. I sent him a message the other day, waiting to hear back.

International Scout Family
mikemodeler replied to dragstueck's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Those are great, love the period correct paint schemes and different wheels/tires. I have a couple of Scouts to finish, including one similar to your white half cab. -
History of Revell's Squarebody Pickup kits
mikemodeler replied to kalbert's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Nice proportions on the body, the rest of the kit is rather cheesy, especially those plastic poorly molded tires. Monogram had some nice ideas back in the day, sadly they chose to go with poor execution and weak representations. -
Source for Wheels and Tires?
mikemodeler replied to FLHCAHZ's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Fireball will have some drag radials and wider street tires. Scenes Unlimited is primarily truck tires now. Modelhaus will be vintage slicks. There are multiple Facebook pages dedicated to parts and specific types of models. If there is a specific set you are looking for, post it in the Wanted section here. Ron Olson offers 3D prints of many parts, worth a search. -
78 GMC 4x4 Wrecker
mikemodeler replied to mchook's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice pair of wreckers, love the home made wheel lift, really cool!
