MCM Relaunch Update 11/6/2020
mikemodeler replied to larrygre's topic in Model Cars Magazine News and Discussions
Wasn't able to grab the relaunch issue, hoping to be able to get it some other way. Any word on when the next issue will be out? Any teasers on what the content may be? -
Jeepster-Wrangler

That is a sweet front end conversion, love the look and very nicely executed with clean details. -
Articles now being paid for?
mikemodeler replied to BSteinIPMS's topic in Model Cars Magazine News and Discussions
I think you mean Model Cars Magazine Pete? Maybe the non-payment is true, maybe not. Wouldn't be the first time something went wrong, things happen, maybe someone from the magazine can explain and as Paul Harvey would say...here's the rest of the story. -
Moebius F-100 wheel base change
mikemodeler replied to NOBLNG's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Moebius offered 5 different Ford Pickup kits with the shorter wheelbase. They are all readily available and would be much easier than shortening frames and beds. They are: 1965 Stepside 1966 Fleetside 1969 Fleetside 1970 Fleetside 1972 Fleetside As Mark mentioned, maybe swapping parts or a kit would be the easier way to go. -

I got this two weeks ago, haven't used it yet but will soon. I lined it with parchment paper but will be switching over to white kraft paper as it's much cheaper. This unit took all of 5 minutes to unpack and attach the blower motor. The way it was packed in the cardboard box was very impressive, no chance of being damaged. It's the Pace 24" mini plus.

That looks great, but I swear I've seen that somewhere before....if I could only remember where! -
Holmes 750 twin-boom wrecker

I'll be watching this. Have always wished AMT would have issued this wrecker in 1/25 scale instead of the 1/43 they chose instead. -
Paint Booths & Safe Ventilation?
mikemodeler replied to Synister's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
So Santa came early for me and I got my Pace booth earlier this week. I will be off to Home Depot for some duct work and to find an inexpensive LED light for it. I bought some white craft paper today at Hobby Lobby and some magnets too. My plan is to use the craft paper as a liner for the booth to keep it from getting all covered in paint, I'll use the magnets to hold the paper in place. A 100 foot roll is $9.99 and I figure I can get about 20 pieces out of that roll, so for $.50 a piece, I'll be able to keep my booth looking nice. My other concern is whether or not it will pull a lot of dust onto the models so I am thinking about making a cover that can go on with magnets. Anyone have any thoughts on it? -
RM Mack w snowblower....

Better hurry up, looks like that could be put to use TODAY! Nice scratch building and the details look great. -
More than likely it was found in the back corner of the mail delivery vehicle.

Recently did a trade with 70 Grande and everything went smooth on my shipment to him, he got it in 3 days. His shipment to me didn't arrive and after three weeks, he offered to send me money to cover the cost of what I sent him. And wouldn't you know, the following day after he sent me money via Pay Pal, his package finally arrived! I tried to send the money back to him and he wouldn't have it! Insisted that I hold on to it, needless to say he has a "credit" with me. Glad to know that there are some of those people left that have integrity and want to make good on a deals, even if it is little plastic parts. I would trade again with him, without any hesitation!

GMC plow truck
mikemodeler replied to cheyenne93's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looking very nice. I have to get some of that Evergreen to do one of my trucks side trim. -
It's economics, really. Smaller number of outlets to sell from, fewer number of customers to sell to requires a higher price to attain enough sales revenue to justify continued operations.
-
That is the MSRP, likely to be cheaper at most online sellers. This kit could end up at Hobby Lobby, hard to say. If you truly want the pickup without the Coke machine, buy the Racers Wedge kit, you will have the pickup and wedge beds to choose from.

Nice pair of trucks, coming along nicely. Is that suspension on the Ford from BNL resins? -
One for each kit you buy.

Will we ever see the Monogram S-10 again?
mikemodeler replied to Jim H.'s topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Looks like there are a couple of solutions for this dilemma- 1. Find the original kit and use the stock front end from it. 2. Hope someone can cast a copy of the original or make a 3D print of it. 3. Get the AMT 96 S-10 or Sonoma kit and use the chassis from it. -
amt 1202 1/25 AMT 1963 Chevy II Nova Station Wagon - Craftsman Plus
mikemodeler replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
yep, containers get lost at sea. Depending on the freight and manufacturer, it can be very costly. One company I worked for lost two containers off a ship and because you pay for the goods at time of order, you have to reorder and hope they make it the second time. It was very expensive as we were self insured on those shipments.- 599 replies

amt 1202 1/25 AMT 1963 Chevy II Nova Station Wagon - Craftsman Plus
mikemodeler replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Can't speak for the model kit companies but the company I work for is Japan based and we get a fair amount of product from Japan and it has been taking longer to get it here. And once it gets here, it often gets hung up in customs at the port of entry. Where we could count on 90-120 day from placement of order to on our loading dock in the US is now closer to 120-150 days, provided there aren't any government restrictions or labor issues either in Japan or the US. And because the USA relies on China for so many manufactured goods, it's getting harder to get space on a cargo ship to get product from the Far East- China, Korea, Japan- anywhere across the Pacific ocean. Needless to say but some of my customers are upset we have problems shipping what they ordered at 100% fill rate, explaining the problem makes it sound like we are making excuses. As to why Tower Hobbies shows different dates? They don't get preferential treatment anymore now that they are not part of Revell. And just guessing, they tend to pad the release dates. For me it's no big deal, I won't be starting on any of these kits immediately so it doesn't matter if I get them in January, February or March.- 599 replies

mikemodeler replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Tower Hobbies, $24.99. I figure by the time it's in stock they will have a coupon for $$ off the order or free shipping. I have a resin version of this wagon from MCW that I have yet to build, not sure why I am looking to add to my stash but this wagon looks so cool.- 599 replies

Yeah, I have one on pre-order, might have to make that two. A nice small block and a set of rally wheels and it will look like the one in my mind, the second one would be stock, unless that pro street 66 Nova chassis fits underneath, then maybe a third is in order?- 599 replies
