  1. I placed an order for two kits as they were retiring. I recently sold one to another model builder as I couldn't decide if wanted to build it or not. In the interest of treating fellow modelers fairly, I sold it to him for what I paid for it, plus shipping, as I knew he would build it. Within 3 weeks of me shipping it to him he had it done and displayed. I could have listed it on eBay and made several hundred dollars but got more enjoyment out of seeing it built. Sure the money would have been nice but that wasn't my intention when I placed my order several years ago.
  2. Saw that too, but with no response to an email makes me wonder if they are open. Had a few things I was going to order but was hoping someone could relate their recent experience.
  3. I sold 60 kits about 3 years ago, shipped them from NC to PA. 4 large boxes cost me about $125 due to size, not weight, which is how most of the shippers charge. Ask the seller to split the shipping charge with you.
  4. Email him and see. Otherwise they show up on eBay from time to time.
  5. Left a note for BNL Resins and haven't heard back. Tried to order with no luck. Anyone have any knowledge if they are in business? How does one reach them?
  6. I bought an '82 brand new and it had the Isuzu 1.9L 4 cyl engine. The 1.9 & 2.0 L4 engines were used through '85, when the Iron Puke was introduced. My '88 & '91 S-10's had the 4.3L engine. If the Monogram Chevy LUV had the correct engine in it, I could replicate my '82.
  7. Awesome work on both trucks, great details and outstanding craftsmanship.
  8. That is incredible, if I didn't know any better I would say that I was looking at the 1:1! Outstanding work as always.
  9. This is looking great, love the scratch built details.
  10. If you have a Hobby Lobby nearby, they have different diameters of wire from K&S in the hobby aisle.
  11. Sorry to hear of your wife's diagnosis but thankfully you sought a second opinion and got better news. I hope she is able to beat this cancer and go on to live a long life. I used to live near that CTC location and while there are stories of people they have helped, I have heard almost as many stories of people like yourselves who get told "Sorry, nothing we can do." CTC is a for profit operation (the guy behind it has been going thru a messy divorce) and some of the details of his lavish lifestyle would make you wonder how he could sleep at night knowing some people spend tons of money in search of a cure while he has a private jet to go to one of his many homes in places many of us dream about.
  12. a couple of thoughts: 1. Testors is not a bad paint, but obviously the sales couldn't justify keeping it around. That said, I saw full racks of them at Hobby Lobby today so not sure how soon they will be gone. 2. ROI and shareholder value are important to a select few, typically the ones in charge. Many times the issue comes down to how profitable a production line is and whether something more profitable is a better use of that space. I work for a large OEM parts manufacturer and we have had to discontinue making certain parts because of limited space despite strong sales demand. Upper management looks at future potential and not past performance. 3. Company performance and leadership go hand in hand. Many times a cash or stock bonus are tied to certain metrics so a CEO or President will decide on production changes solely on how it affects his paycheck or retirement. I have worked for companies that have "restructured" and fired people only to see executives get financially rewarded for cost cutting moves that helped the company and themselves. 4. Maybe the news that Revell is bringing out a line of paints had something to do with the decision. With very few large retail outlets left for Testors to sell to - Michael's and HL- and more hobby shops closing, they may have felt that they were going to lose business.
  13. JF stuff runs the course from not bad to this will take some time to be nice. The price is right and the subject matter sometimes is not available from other sources. No experience with SMH but have heard mixed reviews.
  14. Check out Fireball Modelworks or Scenes Unlimited and put some modern wheels and tires on that truck, those Desert Dogs are so 1970's!
  15. Um, don't think I was taking a swipe, just stating my reasons for not scooping up marked down kits and you gave yours for scooping up kits. I stand by my reasoning as many times I have been in the aisle at Hobby Lobby and witnessed someone struggling to find something they can afford. I will point out the coupon or direct them to the clearance section and get a nice "Thank You" as a result. We all talk about getting more people into this hobby and what better way than to help them afford it?
  16. Might be able to find someone to do them with a 3D printer.
  17. Most likely leftovers from previous sales. They got huge shipments of model kits, mostly Lindberg, and have periodically placed them out for sale. Still worth checking out as not all stores get the same assortment.
  18. While one can appreciate finding a deal, when I am in the same situation, I leave them for the next guy. I have more than I will ever build and cannot see buying kits for the sake of buying kits. Who knows, maybe some father and son will be walking the aisles and wish there was something more affordable for them to buy and build together, maybe a single mother trying to please a kid and keep him busy for a couple of hours (or more) during this pandemic or like I was 45 years ago, trying to stretch my allowance to buy a kit to build. I see no sense in hoarding clearance kits "just because I can" but maybe that is me.
  19. Doubt this will ever come to be Tom. Art is no longer a member here, he had some legal issues as it pertains to images found on his computer and the people contained in them. It should be noted that this post was from 2006, long before Art was charged and convicted of crimes.
  20. I like the look of the second picture- I would leave it as is!
  21. Most model companies have limited staff and those that work there typically wear multiple hats. If it is an existing tool that they are planning on running again, they might use pre-orders from kit distributors to finalize the decision. In the past, kits were announced but never made it to the shelves as demand waned and they weren't produced. If it's a new tool, they probably have a good idea of how well it will sell, especially if they scan the forums seeing what people are stating as their wants.
  22. Found the Racers Wedge body parts in a scrap parts box today so i think I will get one for the pickup but will likely trade off the wedge bed when it shows up.
  23. Thank you Chuck for your observations, spot on.
  24. With the government limiting how many people can be in a building and who can enter the country, it is no surprise that shows are cancelled. My employer is saving several hundred thousand dollars by not displaying / attending SEMA & AAPEX.
  25. Now it all comes to me why you sent that picture the other night! Like the way this looks, those wheels make the car look racier than it really is!
