Hobby Lobby re-opening
mikemodeler replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was in one in SC earlier this month, about 5 days after it reopened. One of the clerks said that they hadn't had any replenishment stock since the week before they closed and the warehouse was working on getting orders picked and ready to ship. IIRC, they ship out of Oklahoma City, so it takes a while to get stuff moved around. Add in that a lot of what they sell comes from China and off shore and it may be a month or two before they have made up for missing shipments. -
Tamiya LP series lacquer paints

Late Jun is the word on the Tower Hobbies website. Likely early July as they tend to be a week or two off with their estimates. -
65 El Camino 4x4 camper

MPC/AMT used those tires in a lot of kits, the most recent one would probably be the Dukes of Hazzard Daisy Jeep. -
I am building a 72 K10 pickup using the Deserter chassis and an old AMT 72 pickup kit cab and resin shortbed. They fit almost like they were designed for each other. I suggest if you build a 67-72 GM Pickup, cut the inner fenders out of the AMT pickup as the ones in the Deserter are correct.

Monogram Chevy Luv Coming soon
mikemodeler replied to disconovaman's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Revell's replacement parts service has been temporarily suspended due to the pandemic. -
So, based on this logic, the Revell snap kit versions of the Mustang are incomplete? Why not call out Revell over their lack of a full detail kit WITH AN ENGINE ? Why is it that Tamiya brings out a kit that accurately represents a race car and has a lot of detail sans engine and you blast them, but give Revell a pass for a very simple snap kit of the same vehicle? Both companies sell their products worldwide so it stands to reason they are trying to reach similar consumers, no?

That is nice, like the colors. ZForce Modelworkx has the correct bumper available in 3D resin. -
1984 Ford Pickup - what's available?
mikemodeler replied to Jonathan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I remember that kit and the body seemed to be a bit more boxier than the 1:1 was, not sure it would be worth searching for as it probably is big $$ -
1984 Ford Pickup - what's available?
mikemodeler replied to Jonathan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Revell has a 80 Ford Step side kit out right now that would be a start. It is a 4wd and IIRC there aren't a lot of kits of the 80 -86 series F pickups to choose from. There were some kits that had a fleetside bed (you are correct!) but have been long out of production so might be a bit expensive to find. Search eBay, you might get lucky. Revell/Monogram did offer a 91 F-250 long bed extended cab that could be used with some modifications if you are up for it. -
Next Moebius Ford truck kit?
mikemodeler replied to Againmikewins's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I think the 67 with the service bed is being commissioned by Dave Burket at Model King. There was a rumor a couple of years ago about Moebius doing a 67-72 GM truck series, but I believe that was before Pegasus buying Moebius, and I am sure they are looking at sales history before committing any tooling dollars. With the lack of major distribution (outside of Michael's and Hobby Lobby), probably takes longer to pay for tooling and with more LHS closings in recent years, you don't get those impulse buys if you can't walk in a store and see it. -
'51 Jeep

A word of caution, use restraint when shopping on the Scenes Unlimited website or else you will end up with $100 of stuff in your cart without realizing it. Ask me how I know! -

Jeff, those wheels and tires can be found at Scenes Unlimited. Danny has been adding some really nice stuff for 4x4's lately, check it out if you are looking for that kind of stuff. Nice Jeep, clean, basic and simple, just like the real thing! Love the color and details. -

Latest MCM issue?
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks, I had forgotten about the lifetime subscriptions. I wonder if those are still available for purchase? -
I know Gregg informed us of his pending surgery three months ago and while not having seen any updates here, not sure with the pandemic if he actually had the surgery. With that said, he had mentioned having several issues of the magazine ready for print and I was wondering if they were sent to be printed? Given the extra time being at home for the foreseeable future, would be nice to have something to read while waiting for the glue and paint to dry. If anyone has any updates on the above, it would be greatly appreciated!

I twas but a gleam in my father's eye, but did go to the Worlds Fair in 1965 in NYC at the rip old age of 20 months! Can't remember a thing for some reason but was told I made the trip more entertaining and did enjoy the car exhibits, which probably explains why I developed a love for cars at an early age.

Hobby Lobby re-opening
mikemodeler replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually, you can claim unemployment benefits even if the business is open if you have an underlying health issue that makes you vulnerable to contracting the Covid virus. Have family members who own an essential business but lost several employees to unemployment because of it. Likely will get the employees back once the government stops the payments. -
News About Revell
mikemodeler replied to sfhess's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To a certain degree, Stacy David has featured models on his show Gearz from time to time and has talked about how it fueled his interest in cars and played a role into his career. It would be cool to see a show that featured car guys and how models influenced them. A weekly model show? Hmm, would be interesting to see it happen but I am guessing it would have all kinds of models-figures, vehicles, armor, aircraft- for it to get support from model companies. Maybe it could be on par with Dennis Gage's "My Classic Car" where he visits shows, aftermarket suppliers, builders, etc.? Airbrush, paint, aftermarket companies (resin, 3D, retailers, online sellers, etc) and model manufacturers could be showcased like they do for the 1:1 world. -
Apparently no one as I had asked for a set and was willing to trade but got no responses after 100 views. No worries, got a sealed kit for $22 shipped to my house.

Hobby Lobby re-opening

Could be a staffing problem. Many retailers are experiencing a problem getting people to return for work as they make more money on unemployment than they do working. And some have legitimate fears of contracting the virus because of their compromised immune system, despite masks, gloves and sanitizing.
