The ‘other’ mag is stopping publication
mikemodeler replied to cruz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Uh Dave, did you miss my post about how I contacted Kalmbach directly and got my renewal subscription refunded from 4 weeks ago after I got the email stating the magazine was ceasing publication? Try calling them or writing them and I would think you could get a refund too. They were very pleasant to deal with and took care of it within an hour of my writing to them. -
Placed an order with Tower Hobbies for the new Revell 69 Chevelle and also for a 65 Impala needed for an upcoming resin project on Saturday night, got notification two hours ago that the order was ready to ship. Looking forward to getting my order later this week, love the fast service.

Nice start, liking where this is headed. That dump in the background looks pretty cool too! -
1967? Chevy truck info help please
mikemodeler replied to Bills72sj's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The chassis from the AMT kit will fit under this resin kit but keep in mind one of the downfalls of that chassis is that it is very simplistic and offers no detail. The aforementioned 64-66 Revell C-10 chassis has much more accuracy and detail, just needs to be extended as it is a shortbed chassis. That Revell kit is much easier and cheaper to find too. Also, the AMT chassis has a rear "droop" to it that when assembled, looks like the chassis has a bow in the middle causing the body lines to look off. If you go that route, be sure to shim up the rear of the bed so it looks right. -

I have no inside knowledge of how Kalmbach publishing works or is doing financially, but I will say this. If both Scale Auto and FSM were struggling to survive, then combining the two would not be the answer to solving the problem. My guess ( and a $1 will get you a large Coke at participating McDonalds) is that FSM has a larger subscriber base & circulation than SA and therefore it was determined to combine the two in the spirit of strengthening the plastic model hobby. We all win if the magazine is expanded to include vehicles and we learn some tips along the way on how to improve our building. I have never been an aircraft/military modeler but my son and one of his friends are and it might be a way for us to share the hobby some more. -
Hopefully he is using this time to build up some inventory, seems his biggest problem is huge demand for his excellent stuff!

Given the regularity of when MCM is printed, I think they were a few years ago. At least Kalmbach has admitted to stopping publication of the magazine. -

I share your sentiments but in reality, the magazines were old news when they arrived as a lot of the content could be seen online months in advance. Given the lead times, information in a magazine could be as little as two months old when it went to print. The how-to articles and build up of kits will still be available online, might have to search for them. -

For some, the obituary was written several years ago and yet people hold out hope that it isn't true and continue to send money. Our hobby will continue on via the internet with forums and Facebook and the like. Maybe I can sell my collection of Scale Auto Mags for big money now that they will be rare, just like I did with my Model Cars Magazines! -
Resin Goodyear Tracker A/T tires

Might have to cast your own, do not recall seeing these in resin. Maybe someone can do it in 3D and print you one? -
Tower Hobbies shows "order pending" and past experience has shown that to mean typically 90 days, give or take.

72 Chevy Wedge Racer's Wedge release announced.
mikemodeler replied to GMP440's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Yes, the kit is a bit cartoonish but the picture above shows a truck with a longer wheelbase. If one were to scratchbuild the chassis, the truck pictured here could be built with some modifications to the Racers Wedge bed. -

Hard to tell if the rear is sitting high, maybe put the axle that you plan to use and the wrecker bed that will be on the truck and it will be easier to judge. Looks good so far. -

There is a guy on FB selling an original Can Do (open box) and lists the price as $425 FIRM. Probably hoping to cash in before they hit the market and people realize the difference isn't worth the extra money. -

mikemodeler replied to GMP440's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
If this has the truck bed in it as well as the ramp bed, I will grab one. I bought the Model King re-issue of the Racers Wedge and Open Road camper and someone offered resin bed sides that were single axle and I have that left to build. -

Nice work Jeff, great color choices and the details look spot on. -
Awesome story and build, always cool to see something that represents a part of one's life. Congrats on the anniversary and thank you for your service, welcome home.

Likely depends on when they get shipments from the model companies. As we have seen, not every new release ends up there so gotta take what they get and use the internet to find the rest.

Considering the issues with this kit, not a bad result. Practice and patience are the two things I have to remind myself of when building and they go a long way towards building nicer models. Keep at it, the next one will be better than the last one! -
Nice work so far, really liking where this is headed.

Hobby Lobby re-opening
mikemodeler replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night and I don't pretend to know the inner workings of a large retailer or small manufacturing company, but I would guess that if HL wanted to buy Moebius kits and Moebius wanted to sell them, they could come to an agreement on payment terms and order volume. Anyone who has worked in manufacturing understands that terms can be worked out if the justification can be made. And as far as a being a premium brand, I don't think limited distribution makes you a premium brand, it is what is in the box. -

mikemodeler replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I believe it has to do with some of the other kits made by Moebius that HL finds offensive. Sad, because they would move a lot more kits if they opened up HL to selling them.
