1984 Ford Pickup - what's available?
mikemodeler replied to Jonathan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Revell has a 80 Ford Step side kit out right now that would be a start. It is a 4wd and IIRC there aren't a lot of kits of the 80 -86 series F pickups to choose from. There were some kits that had a fleetside bed (you are correct!) but have been long out of production so might be a bit expensive to find. Search eBay, you might get lucky. Revell/Monogram did offer a 91 F-250 long bed extended cab that could be used with some modifications if you are up for it. -
Next Moebius Ford truck kit?
mikemodeler replied to Againmikewins's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I think the 67 with the service bed is being commissioned by Dave Burket at Model King. There was a rumor a couple of years ago about Moebius doing a 67-72 GM truck series, but I believe that was before Pegasus buying Moebius, and I am sure they are looking at sales history before committing any tooling dollars. With the lack of major distribution (outside of Michael's and Hobby Lobby), probably takes longer to pay for tooling and with more LHS closings in recent years, you don't get those impulse buys if you can't walk in a store and see it. -

A word of caution, use restraint when shopping on the Scenes Unlimited website or else you will end up with $100 of stuff in your cart without realizing it. Ask me how I know! -

Jeff, those wheels and tires can be found at Scenes Unlimited. Danny has been adding some really nice stuff for 4x4's lately, check it out if you are looking for that kind of stuff. Nice Jeep, clean, basic and simple, just like the real thing! Love the color and details. -

Latest MCM issue?

Thanks, I had forgotten about the lifetime subscriptions. I wonder if those are still available for purchase? -
I know Gregg informed us of his pending surgery three months ago and while not having seen any updates here, not sure with the pandemic if he actually had the surgery. With that said, he had mentioned having several issues of the magazine ready for print and I was wondering if they were sent to be printed? Given the extra time being at home for the foreseeable future, would be nice to have something to read while waiting for the glue and paint to dry. If anyone has any updates on the above, it would be greatly appreciated!

I twas but a gleam in my father's eye, but did go to the Worlds Fair in 1965 in NYC at the rip old age of 20 months! Can't remember a thing for some reason but was told I made the trip more entertaining and did enjoy the car exhibits, which probably explains why I developed a love for cars at an early age.

Hobby Lobby re-opening

Actually, you can claim unemployment benefits even if the business is open if you have an underlying health issue that makes you vulnerable to contracting the Covid virus. Have family members who own an essential business but lost several employees to unemployment because of it. Likely will get the employees back once the government stops the payments. -
News About Revell

To a certain degree, Stacy David has featured models on his show Gearz from time to time and has talked about how it fueled his interest in cars and played a role into his career. It would be cool to see a show that featured car guys and how models influenced them. A weekly model show? Hmm, would be interesting to see it happen but I am guessing it would have all kinds of models-figures, vehicles, armor, aircraft- for it to get support from model companies. Maybe it could be on par with Dennis Gage's "My Classic Car" where he visits shows, aftermarket suppliers, builders, etc.? Airbrush, paint, aftermarket companies (resin, 3D, retailers, online sellers, etc) and model manufacturers could be showcased like they do for the 1:1 world. -
Apparently no one as I had asked for a set and was willing to trade but got no responses after 100 views. No worries, got a sealed kit for $22 shipped to my house.

Hobby Lobby re-opening
mikemodeler replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Could be a staffing problem. Many retailers are experiencing a problem getting people to return for work as they make more money on unemployment than they do working. And some have legitimate fears of contracting the virus because of their compromised immune system, despite masks, gloves and sanitizing. -

Not sure where you are getting that from, but most places the percentage of deaths to positive tests are running in the 3-4 % range. The percentage of deaths to the number tested is less than 1 percent. I live in Charlotte and 94% of the people who have died were over the age of 60 with underlying health issues, so likely they may have passed away with pneumonia but were considered Covid-19. -

So I live on the NC / SC border, and the closest HL is actually in SC and has been open for over a week now. I ran in there the other day to get some fabric for masks and checked the model aisle. I will be back there tomorrow as business will take me in that direction and I will check out what may be new or re-stocked. In NC, the governor announced today that all retail stores can start re-opening this Friday, with social distancing guidelines and mask wearing mandatory. While I look forward to being able to get back to stores again, I have managed to live without many stores. I have found a lot of what I need online so life ain't so bad. No LHS here to support, but have found a few online worthy of my money! Will be interesting going forward how business changes. In an article in today's Chicago Tribune, they interviewed the President of Revell USA and he was discussing how the business was saved a few years ago and most importantly, they have seen a 90% increase in sales since this virus started. -

Had to run to HL today to get some fabric for face masks. As I was talking with the lady cutting the fabric, she said they hadn't gotten a truck with stock on it for nearly 6 weeks! I am guessing that it won't be very long before they do get one but just a reminder to us all if you are in a store and wonder why the shelves are bare. I did go over to the model section and they had some holes on the shelf but had a decent stock, did notice the paint shelves were missing a few colors. -

That is very nice and love the way you updated it! But as Harry P would have said, "Where's the mirrors?" -
65 El Camino 4x4 camper
mikemodeler replied to Kruzn's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Gonna be following this one, digging that old camper! -
Interesting subject to offer, wish they had some other stuff to run as I think this kit will sell limited quantities due to it's price, the size and subject matter. Nice to see some of the old stuff come back out but I would think they could find stuff with better selling potential.

mikemodeler replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice job on that truck, you nailed the look and the stance! Nice color choice, I am leaning towards a similar color on one that I am building, a K10 shortbed fleetside. -

I have mine dug out and after looking it over, will try to make it a quick build. Like what you did with the wheels, wish there was another set of wheels like some 8 spokes that were popular at the time. -
Revell to Repop the Will do wrecker !
mikemodeler replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Go to Facebook, get to the Model Car Aftermarket page. From there, click on the police/fire lights tab, then look for a post by Model Parts in Scale. It is a father/son doing the lights and they have them in many different styles and colors. Don and Dave Panek are the guys, high quality stuff and very reasonable pricing, take a couple of weeks but well worth it. -
History of Revell's Squarebody Pickup kits
mikemodeler replied to kalbert's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The chassis in this kit is so far from being correct that it is basically useless unless you are building a curbside or shelf model. It is a shame because unless Round2 can bring back the 78 Chevy stepside kit that had a correct 2wd chassis, there isn't much else out there. -

mikemodeler replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
If there is a price listed near the model it would be a good indicator if it's the wrecker or not,the wrecker is likely to go for more money.
