  1. Correct on the spare tire rule and thanks for the info everyone. Last night I drilled the distributor for wires, this seems to get a little harder to do the older I get!
  2. Thanks guys, I managed to find some time to paint a few pieces. Just enough to keep myself busy! I used Alclad white aluminium, magnesium and steel. I also tried a different technique this time. I went much lighter with the Alclad on the engine and rear axle. Almost misting the colors on, allowing the black to show through more. Giving it a darker tone. They rotors are sprayed aluminium and the calipers are steel. Some touch up with a brush and they look pretty good. If you notice I numbered them for easier assembly later. Also on the 003 chassis I used MM lacquer which was great. This time I used MM enamel, I is really slow drying and without a dehydrator it will need to sit for some time.
  3. Great weather this weekend. Dinner last night with the whole family. Quiet day planned.
  4. I believe I'll be doing this one in an as delivered form, such as when it was unloaded at Nassau. I took the advice given and modified the chassis before assembly. It's just a start but I figure I'd do this and the #003 together. I used Tamiya tape and covered the attachment points and the toothpick to hold while painting. It can be easily removed and will provide another clean attachment point. The Pelham Blue should be the accurate color for this build.
  5. After a very hot and dry summer, we are finally get rain and now the temps are coming down to manageable numbers.
  6. I was a little nervous about grinding on a nearly finished chassis. It was a good reminder to test fit! It would have been good to know more of the kit before starting, but overall I'm enjoying the build. None of the reviews I read mentioned these issues. I think I'm good on the headers, but we'll see... You would think with today's technology they could computer match the color. As far as color goes, using the info gathered here, this is what I came up with. Fortunately MCW's new owner is about 35mile from me and I was able to talk with Mike in pearson. Using the paint code for 96 Corvette Admiral Blue he was able to mix up the desired color. It's gonna be a decent weekend so I'm going to do some test shoots. Thanks again for all the interest and help...
  7. Thanks Ismael, this confirms what my initial thoughts were. And also the fact that the original 63 car was Pelham blue. I will be using the Admiral blue for Foyt's car. I have an idea for my second car of building it as it was unloaded at Nassau with only the white circles and of course the correct hood. Thanks again...
  8. MCW Automotive Finish has every color you may need. And the owner did a lot of research to insure proper matching. Pelham Blue is an exact match for the Grand Sport as seen when unloaded at Nassau. And this is where things get a little fuzzy. In my research I found, the first cars were painted this factory color. Nearly all restored or replica cars of AJ's #2 looks to be a brighter blue. If you look on pg. 86 of the Paddock & Friedman (and other pix) GSC book it appears not so bright and there are other sources that suggest the same color. I honestly can't see the teams custom painting the #003 car, but nothing is impossible... If anyone can shed some light on the subject I would greatly appreciate it. I'm having trouble going forward because of this paint selection.
  9. I really like how you do this piping. Just for kixs and giggles how about a few in progress pictures?
  10. There several ways to go about filling these channels in. I believe they were designed to eliminate shrinkage and waste. This is how I went about fixing mine. Using styrene rod and liquid cement, and then filling with two part body filler.
  11. I was checking on paint and decals yesterday and three things happened. 1. Model Car World, Automotive Finishes has the Blue need for this build. I called Mike and placed my order, I'll be picking it up Saturday along with some other supplies at Wings Wheels and Waves in Massillon. 2. Somehow when I started this project I ordered the wrong decal sheet from V-R-M. So I ordered the proper sheet for this build. 3. Since I now have more than enough decals to build several GS's I decided to begin working on another chassis. Not sure which one this will be yet but I'll let you know...
  12. Great looking adjustments...
  13. Thanks for the help, even if it was a little late (LoL). After some tense grinding and trimming, and a couple test fits with the frame and engine attachments. I smoothed these areas up and painted them black. The engine still sits on the engine mounts but just barely. I trimmed a bit off the trans tail shaft and got things low enough to clear the hood. This pic shows the hood in place but still needed a little tweaking. Without trimming the drive shaft I was able to get things to work together just fine! Hopefully these tips will prevent this problem for others in the future... Thanks Again for your comments and advice.
  14. True, my only issue would be if they claimed to have built themself. I can't abide a lier.
  15. Not sure about the offset, I installed it per plan. I think after a closer look it may be as Justin suggests. I do know that under acceleration. AJ said the front wheels would almost leave the ground!
  16. Much respect to all who gave and to them that gave all.
  17. I'll have to take a closer look at this. I did make sure everything was installed per instruction but you never know...
  18. So I bumped into a little problem. The plug wires hit the hood but I think i can fix that by lowering the distributor. But the carbs interfere with the hood and the radiator is to wide to fit between the wheel wells. While the radiator is no big problem, I'm a little lost with the engine/hood problem. I did check and the engine is installed properly. I wonder if installing the glass will make a difference? Anyone else encountered this...
  19. Couldn't resist a little mock up. After seeing several of these built up, I was concerned about the ride height. But I think it's all good. Still undecided about the colors for the interior and body, but there is no rush at this point.
  20. I'll be watching this unique project...
  21. That kit has so much flash it should be arrested for indecent exposure. But you’ll have it shaped right up.
  22. Very cool and rainy here in Ohio today, but makes for some bench time. Assembly and detailing going on. Not really happy with the kit tires but I think some more sanding will make them acceptable. Still need to plumb and wire a few things but I'm liking it so far. I sprayed the inner part of the wheels with magnesium Alcald and the the rest is various shades of black and aluminium.
