  1. Have you figured the whole picture posting thing yet?
  2. Nice construction here...
  3. Looking good. What stops the hood when open? Mine rested on the grill. But my hinge was a lot simpler with pivots on both ends. I used brass rod also. Thanks for posting this, you have inspired me to fix mine. (Merc Rebuild)
  4. I am enjoying this build...
  5. Good either way with the whole rear panel thing, I'm just enjoying the work here....
  6. Thanks guys! I'll be working on and showing updates on the headers soon.
  7. #003 Test Fit Also...
  8. Thx Brian, here is sometest fitting....
  9. Had a day off today and since the weather has turned Fall like and painting the GS Corvettes is on hold for now. I decided to start this rebuild. You may remember this one from a few years back. About a year ago this Merc was one of the models damaged while moving. It was nicked up pretty good and some pieces were lost. The hood took most of the damage. Thanks to a doner kit given to me by my Pal Al, I am ready to make something cool out of this. I began with disassembly and fitting the new hood. Because of the amount of body work, I am resisting the purple pond. My hope is to sand, blend and repaint without hurting the body. http://s176.photobucket.com/user/fredjames_2007/library/49 MERK?sort=2&page=1 Thanks for looking and feel free to follow along...
  10. Which one is your FAVORITE!
  11. Some assembly on the interiors...
  12. Welcome Aidan, glad you joined in here. My dad got me interested in models also. Looking forward to seeing your progress...
  13. Sometimes I'm amazed at the lengths modelers will go to enjoy this hobby...
  14. Removed the cooler, trap door and jack connections. Primed and ready!
  15. A few body adjustments. Had to lose the rear-end cooler and add a new peak. Also filled in the trap door on the left front fender. I found four sink marks and filled them as well...
  16. This car will be the Pelham Blue...
  17. Spoon test with both colors, no clear.
  18. Lovely model Lloyd, here one I did several years ago. Here the link if you'd like to see the build, http://s176.photobucket.com/user/fredjames_2007/library/49 MERK?sort=2&page=1

    Very nice body work...
  20. Correct on the spare tire rule and thanks for the info everyone. Last night I drilled the distributor for wires, this seems to get a little harder to do the older I get!
  21. Thanks guys, I managed to find some time to paint a few pieces. Just enough to keep myself busy! I used Alclad white aluminium, magnesium and steel. I also tried a different technique this time. I went much lighter with the Alclad on the engine and rear axle. Almost misting the colors on, allowing the black to show through more. Giving it a darker tone. They rotors are sprayed aluminium and the calipers are steel. Some touch up with a brush and they look pretty good. If you notice I numbered them for easier assembly later. Also on the 003 chassis I used MM lacquer which was great. This time I used MM enamel, I is really slow drying and without a dehydrator it will need to sit for some time.
  22. Great weather this weekend. Dinner last night with the whole family. Quiet day planned.
  23. I believe I'll be doing this one in an as delivered form, such as when it was unloaded at Nassau. I took the advice given and modified the chassis before assembly. It's just a start but I figure I'd do this and the #003 together. I used Tamiya tape and covered the attachment points and the toothpick to hold while painting. It can be easily removed and will provide another clean attachment point. The Pelham Blue should be the accurate color for this build.
