A Studebaker Story Phase Two - The Hawk
landman replied to landman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Me being me i broke a few things taking the Starliner's suspension apart. So I had to make a few things. Painted the S in the wheel centers. Lost one of the flattened exhaust tips supplied with the kit. My car had beveled round tips so I made some. I thought I had a shade close to the "Moonlight Silver" of my car with this Duplicolor "Spruce Green" but it is way off, much closer to pewter.. That's the way it'll stay. -
'49-'51 Merc Dogleg

I saw this one under construction in 2008. He kept the dogleg but took another tack with the door itself. They worked extremely smoothly. I don't know if he ever finished it. Thought it might be of interest. -
A Studebaker Story Phase Two - The Hawk

Gouged the front apron to accept the frame horns. Better now but still off. May have to move the entire front suspension aft a bit. The resin kit provides Hawk hubcaps. Painted them up. Still need to do the S in the red inserts. -
To illustrate this, this is the scene that came to my mind immediately when I saw your photo. It is a Willys I saw on display in a recreation of an old time village garage. Probably the only Willys coupe still intact.

That will look super Richard. By the way, can you give us a bit of tutorial on how to make the newspaper? -
I second this. It has that "mood" that real photos have.

Some lowboy parts. I'll use them to recreate the one in the second photo.

Nice fabrication Casey. I would like one too but I can't afford the listing prices. -
A Studebaker Story Phase Two - The Hawk
landman replied to landman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Decided to sacrifice my Starliner anyway. Removed the frame and placed the Hawk body on it. Very close fit. The rear wheel wells will need thinning out a bit and the front frame rails rest under the front apron. Two choices here: 1. Cut the frame so it slips inside the apron. 2. Gouge out the underside of the apron to accept the frame. There is enough "meat" to do this. What do you guys think? -

My most successful use of Alclad yet

Hey Dann, I managed to get some Spaz Stix. That works well too. Easier to use I think. -

I'll say. If they take too long, send me some garbage, all my cans are empty. Beautiful work. -

I'll do this '62 to "look" like my '64 instead of being a '64. First order of business, the vinyl top. Is the Masking tape applied over the primer & paint or directly to the body and then replaced with the black painted version? -
I have a resin GT Hawk which is made to be built on a Starliner frame. I thought I'd use an Avanti because I have at least two but it won't work without a lot of mods. I've been cruising the bay looking for a junk Starliner or a new one for a reasonable price. Do all the versions have the same chassis? I asked Round 2 but they haven't answered.

Thank you. -
Some members do this to indicate updates, especially on long running projects. How to do this has been explained here before but I couldn't find it. I could use a refresher. regards, Pat
